I always carry a pouch with first aid items plus: organic wipes (For cleaning kids up in case of an unexpected fall/ nose bleed), one or two items for a period (even if it might not be for me but other nanny/friend in need), medicine (ibuprofen, paracetamol and diarrhoea tablets in case of emergencies), spare face mask, sanitiser, hair tie and hair clips, tissues, a wipe and cloth for cleaning my glasses, little pot of homemade cream based on shea and cacao butters which is great for lips or dry hands. And a very light raincoat or umbrella. I also store a full set of clothes, shoes and spare raincoat at work but then I live in London :-)

You have a few things that were not in my bag that are great ideas. Raincoat and umbrella are a must depending on where you live!

Excellent video. Thank you. I also include a mini nail clipper as I have found that sometimes I’ll break a nail and it’s uneven or it leaves a pointy corner so a nail filer or a mini nail clipper are very handy.

This is great! I can relate to the "self-care" when looking after others. I took care of my Step-dad for 10 yrs with Alzheimers. Btw, I could never leave half a bar of any snack! Once that wrapper is open, it's gone!

Hi there! I LOVE these videos, they are extremely helpful for nannies as I am one and do not have an extensive amount of experience. Can the Nanny Solution please make a video regarding appropriate dress wear while working as nanny? This is something I wonder about and try researching about all the time. It's something many new nannies find themselves asking as well I observed. It would be so nice if there was just a uniform for nannies. I've been so confused as to what I can wear that's comfortable while working with infants and children but still professional. Can nannies where leggings if the bum is covered by a long shirt? What's the best thing to wear when working with infants/older children? Do parents care? I love wearing leggings because they provide so much mobile flexibility when moving all over the place and being on the ground with babies but I know it may not be the most professional looking right? So far I've come to the conclusion that a dark pair of jeans or jeggings is a good start paired with a dark long sleeve athletic shirt but I would LOVE more advice and input so I can feel at ease with what I'm wearing as a nanny and not have to think about it. Thank you for your wonderful videos! Please help! :)

Thank you for the video idea. It is a great topic. It sounds like what you are wearing is appropriate. It will depend on the family and their expectations as well. Are they a casual family or a more formal family? It is hot where you work or is the temperature cool most of the year? Keep an eye out. I will work on the video for August!

Oooh. My Nanny Bag that Michelle Doesn't have: Snack for Kid hidden away (in case I forget theirs) Extra socks Masks (COVID is weird) Medical Release Form for the Kiddos in case of emergency and I have to take them to hospital Small plastic baggie and Water wipes (tied in a knot so Littles don't suffocate themselves) -This bag is a Poop bag in case a Little need to poop out somewhere there is no toilet. I have had to use it on occasion. -Ooh, I should get an extra charger Book on tape! -yes! I'm a 90s Kid and understand what you mean! Hahaha.

I'm a nanny with over a decade of experience. Having a nanny bag is essential for me. I usually have a large two section backpack I use. It has enough space to include my items and when going out the childrens items fit. A must for me is a spare change of clothes with underwater and socks. A travel size set of toiletries a nail grooming kit hair brush and extra hair ties and clips . I try to always have hand sanitizer, wet wipes and tissues in the main compartment. Extra water to share incase we runout of our own. Phone charger, a note book, flash light, and my wallet. When going out I try to remember to carry a small towel, the full size towels are in my car trunk. Also carry some grocery store bags to help with any trash or carrying out random items or soiled clothing. I also try to pack healthy snacks too. I have scent sensitivities and try to only use all natural products so in a quickly accessible pocket I have a trave size liquid soap and lotion. I always think about having a bag where if an emergency happened and I needed to be staying overnight I had the essentials with out having to ask to borrow things or take a trip to the local shop. You have to think about carrying the most essential things in the bag and leaving some in the car. In my car I have multiple bandaids, scissors, disposable food utensils and bowls, wet wipes, paper towels, extra clothes and shoes for me and one set for my nanny child and picnic blankets and a lantern. You can't have it all but as long as you have some basic things you will be alright. We do what feels best for us and use our nanny gut instinct.

We have had a couple of families who are plant based or vegan. They did not specifically request a vegan nanny but they said nannies would need to understand and not bring anything into their home.

Hand sanitizer! omg, no. What you put on your body goes IN your body. So, I suggest, that every time you use a hand sanitizer that you squirt just a titch into your mouth and swallow because that is what you are doing every time you use it. I would NEVER put this onto a child. In fact, my nephews when they were in grade school and in the “sanitizer” line before lunch asked that they go to the bathroom to wash their hands because “their mom doesn’t want that put onto their hands daily.”. This one item is the cause of autoimmune disease eventually over time.
