I also have the CCM 9000 goalie mask, but with the certified cage. I've had a couple stick blades go through the cat's eyes on a Badger mask over the years, not to mention a puck getting through the cat's eye of an HM30 Cooper cage on a CCM helmet back in the day. (Yeah, I'm that old but I'm still kicking them out at age 60.) I have many of the same extras in my bag as well, including the sweet stick which I use prior to every session of hockey. Great channel and content!

Thanks man!! Glad you’re enjoying the videos. And yeah I’ve been pretty fortunate with the non cert cages but I’ve heard some horror stories. I actually have two CCM 9000 masks because I liked them so much and then I got a CCM GFL but the fit is a little different but the axis is just way too weird for me. I’m thinking about replacing everything on one of my 9000s. New foam, hardware, cage, and harness. Everything else is holding up great. Minus the minimal damage to the chin

Bones, try a Vaughn neck guard (carbon fiber reinforced model) - just got one myself and it is super comfortable and I hardly feel it. My previous neck protection was from Warrior and the velcro always used to scratch the side of my neck because the senior model strap length was a bit too short. The Vaughn neck guard is great so far plus it is made in Ontario, CA and fits great with my Vaughn SLR2 C/A!

I have used koho/rbk/ccm gear with 590 glove since I started hockey in middle school and I recently changed to Brian's optik2 pads and gnetik5 gloves. That gnetik glove is by far my favorite glove I've owned. As far as masks go, sportmask is my go to.

Cool insight into the bag of gear, thanks for sharing. Would you ever go back to a CCM EFlex pad, or are you sticking with Lefevre/True?
@BonesyTV
@BonesyTV 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve been in the lefevre designed gear since the Reebok days so I’m more interested in what they’re doing with True. The CCM gear is cool but the elfex line didn’t seem to change at all from the EF4. Plus it’s hard to compete with the lefevre quality

You should probably wait to get the L20.2, there are a lot of new features and specs to try, and has amazing colour zones. I personally have used the 590, 580 and the 600, and I found that the 580 is the best and to catch pucks. Stick handling is a bit harder but u get used to it.
@BonesyTV
@BonesyTV 2 жыл бұрын
I have no business playing the puck anyways. It’s never really been a strength of mine that’s for sure. And did you feel like you had to adjust your hand position with the 580? But I’ve been liking what I’ve been seeing about the 20.2. I’m a knee roll fanboy so it’s tough
@nottrav4oilers.464
@nottrav4oilers.464 2 жыл бұрын
I, personally, never had to adjust my hand positioning when I used the 580 glove. Ask people who has used it, and they and myself will call it a vacuum, because anything that hits the board, will give you a better chance if catching pucks is harder for you. I would like for someone on KZbin to review the l20.2, bc I can't afford it. But, it is your decision, I would just recommend the l20.2, or wait a bit first l12.3?
@BonesyTV
@BonesyTV 2 жыл бұрын
I mean any way to make catching pucks easier sounds good to me. And at this point I could probably hold out till the 12.3 with how well my set is holding up but that could be another year or so. You got a new set lined up yet?
@nottrav4oilers.464
@nottrav4oilers.464 2 жыл бұрын
Nope. Haven't got a new piece of gear I 6 months or so. Maybe try ask true to go to their factory, and try on gear and get fitted personally. The 580 glove can be brought on the swap (Sideline swap) for cheap. Or the hockey shop should have some or other retailers. Or even go on the true site and check the customiser. If you are, make sure to send me the colours and specs. I study hockey gear, especially goalie gear. And as a goalie my self, it is easier to check the customer first, to see if I like the colour zones and looks before I decide. Or get a mix of different brands. Or get a custom design like the digiprint or the extreme custom if u had to say I would get a ultrasonic blocker, brians pads and a true glove. Wat about u, what mix and match would u get?
@BonesyTV
@BonesyTV 2 жыл бұрын
Man it’d be so cool to go to the lefevre factory. But I’m making a trip to Boston soon so maybe I’ll pop into an actual shop and try out a couple different gloves. But as far as miss match brands outside of lefevre/true it’s hard to deny the pop on the bauer blocker, I’d probably go Brian’s glove, and then pads would be tough but either Brian’s again

Hey Dustin. Love the video and excited about the upcoming 1 piece versus 2 piece skates. I went to the 580 glove and love it. Feels huge. It took some getting used to as the angle is a little different but once you do, it gobbles up pucks. I would go 12.2 for your next set just ro tey something different. Gloves are basically the same so it's really about the pads. Is the Pacific Rink bag big enough to fit the Pads too? Or is that an even bigger size bag? I love how they have their name on the inside of the flap so when the bag is open everyone in the room sees it. Nice touch. Also, I have been looking for a pair of good socks. Were those Swiftwick? Would love to try and find them locally or order online.
@BonesyTV
@BonesyTV 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’ve been liking these swiftwick socks. I think Howies makes a similar sock too. But yeah the 12.2 definitely has my interest. And I need to try a 580. What was the biggest adjustment? Just finding the pocket when you catch? And I can fit my pads in the bag too but I have to take the skate bags out to make it all fit. Kinda have to get it just right but I’ve done it a few times now.
@mtlgoalie62

@@BonesyTV I will try to find the socks thanks. For the 580, I found I was catching in the palm and having some popouts. Didn't take long to adjust but I did find I was catching some pucks that I thought were going to squeak by.

man, i got a stinger on the blocker elbow in a high shot and i still feel it. I'm in an old bauer, I don't even know the model! the kova neck guard is DOPE! i can't really talk about the true pads, but i changed from my old (very old) rbk 8k's to Bauer and I love them, they are a 34+1 but I probably have to get me a 35+1 set or a 34+2 since my 5 hole is a bit open (not to mention my recent lack of mobility) its a hard choice because every one is going to say they love their go to brand. also I've been looking into other brands. maybe you can try them in a store and see how they feel. if you change gear maybe you can make a nice giveaway to certain mexican goalie *wink *wink #teambamboo sweat bands¡ nice video Bonesy¡¡
