Answering a few questions. The Ks kit is a GWR Coral glass wagon The 14xx has only been test run since new. The amount of paperwork was to see how confused you’d be. And the Collett was dead when it left me 👍 Glad you enjoyed the box. You’ve got other bits to do, chop chop!
Hopefully not literally chop chop. Chip shop maybe...

I bought off my son his Airfix 14xx auto tank. It had missing traction tyres, but in converting it to EM with a small can motor, I scratch built an underframe but the suitable springing of the rear truck was a nightmare, involving further butchering of the underframe. It was ultimately successful and looks nice with the auto coach. There is not much space in the plastic body for lead shot adhesion weight.

My Bachman Split chassis N&W J class was the same way, it was horrible at low speed, and would bind up. But once you gave it some juice, and it had a place to run, it ran healthier then some modern locos

I think you should make a small layout of a heritage railway, like the ones that you visit in your videos, in that way you can run every thing that you have of different trains.
@emdB673 жыл бұрын
If you've not already worked it out, the "gantry" signals are brackets that clip onto the taller posts to make junction signals. They can be clipped on either side of the posts. The short post on them can be taken out and turned around depending if you build a left or right-hand junction.

You can use your accessories to build a PW yard. The armchairs are for the NUR shop steward (he's the bloke reading the newspaper) and are to be placed in the sunshine outside the bothy 😂. That way he can watch his colleagues doing the work.

I think you need a track plans book next from hornby or Peco to advance onto the next stage, especially with all that stuff. I have looked at the Hornby track plans book and it has some great ideas and even some great compact continuous layouts.

Got one of those collet goods, though think mine was bachmann & plain GWR green. I say was as tried to get it going & killed it, left it in a box with the intention of sorting it but as moving towards 0 gauge will most likely now just stay there. As for layout ideas theres enough there to do a couple of small ones. A small loco workshop & a small GWR branch line to take full advantage of the Autotrain. As for the tall signals they were, to my understanding used where visabillity was reduced, mostly by bridges or buildings but not so obstructed that a banner repeater was required

1400s are some of the most attractive little side tanks possibly ever, and the culmination of 100 years of 0-4-2s.
@sawyerawr57833 жыл бұрын
I must confess, I have a love for 1400s myself. many moons ago, I (a yank) got roped into building the route of the Titfield Thunderbolt for a train simulator--which was fun since I basically had to learn everything from scratch in terms of how things were built. But, of course, no route like that would be complete without 1401, would it? I spent many a day running that little thing over that line. and while the route was sadly stillborn, 1401 opened my eyes to the wider world of British steam which up to that point I'd only really glanced at in a cursory fashion. Many have come since, but you could say that 1401 in particular, and the 1400s in general, were my first love.

Hey there Lawrie! The models just need some oil on the rods and main motor gear. Cleaning the wheels wouldn't hurt either, as it will make better electrical contact :-)
@shanejones56903 жыл бұрын
Greetings from the US! The brake van might be just a bit out of gauge or the axle bearing pockets might need some attention. The auto tank just needs a cleaning and service. Same with the collets goods. The motor sounds fine. Just all the old grease and oil cleaned out and a full cleaning and service.

I bought a Mainline J72 off ebay a few years back. It had two of the plastic stub axles which had split (fortunately not the drive axle). So I replaced the plastic axles with sections off empty biro pen refills! She's still going strong today...
@jbhtrams Жыл бұрын
If you strip and clean the collett chassis and put a very small amount of Pecolube on the axles. These motors had a very small 3-pole motor. The 14xx had the Airfix 5-pole motor. When serviced, they were very good indeed; good slow running! Coincidently, last night, I serviced an Airfix Prairie! My own 14xx and 61xx have had the rubber traction tyres replaced with solid wheels and lead added (as much as I can fit in both!). They both now run extremely well. The Prairie will now pull 12 coaches with ease and NO TYRES!!! John Harrison

The arm chairs? Up to the 1980s there used to be a signal box at Merseyrails 'Birkenhead Park' Station. The box was on the central island platform. In about 1988 my lad was about 5 and I had a word with the signalman who let us into the signal box. In two of the corners, there were ARM CHAIRS!!! A good idea for yours????? Best wishes John Harrison (Jbhtrams)

Don't Hornby still use the Airfix tooling for the 14XX?
@bentullett60683 жыл бұрын
Yes they do it's now been dropped from the Hornby main range and placed into the Railroad range. I am surprised they haven't yet put the 0F Pug 0-4-0st into the Railroad range as it is another old tooled locomotive that was once a Airfix/Dapol locomotive. The Airfix Auto coach is also still produced by Hornby but slightly updated with better paintwork and decoration.

Dapol bought some of the dies, Hornby the rest. I used to work at Breck Jig and Tool Co. (Now dead!) The bosses went to the old Dapol factory once and came back with 3, very rusty, dies to see if they could be cleaned up and used again? The were for TIMPO TOYS 'LONE RANGER', his partner 'TONTO', and the Lone Rangers horse 'SILVER'. Each die had all the parts for each figure, about the same scale as Action Man figures! I remember these figures in the early 1960s, they all had moving heads, arms and legs. I don't know if they were ever finished, as I left shortly after they arrived. Interesting though?
