Everyone needs all these colors and MORE! I love Cascade Green. I love weird multi-pigment colors. I love single pigment colors. I love muddy, opaque greys. I love crazy granulating colors. I love blacks. I love all the colors. :) I could swatch and mix colors all day and night. I'm gonna go do that right now, in fact.

New here to your channel, but I don't see many Sennelier pigments, any reason why?? I think you are the only watercolorist who swatches their pigments, and tests them also showing the pigments ability to spread out while doing wet in wet technique. Great review, thank you!!👏🏾👏🏾👌🏾❤️

+Dionne C I'm glad you liked it! Actually I mostly work with a limited palette when I'm painting, but with botanical illustration it really helps sometime just to have the perfect shade that would be super hard to mix. Lol but regardless I'm clearly infected by the watercolor bug.

These types of palettes are super popular (the ones with half/full pans in these metal cases) but I never know how to feel about them. My preference are the bigger, slanted wells like in those super cheap plastic palettes with 20 wells you can find at hobby lobby. But I'm still intrigued by this style. I just fear I won't be able to pick up colors with bigger brushes. I also like in the slanted well plastic palettes how you can pour your paints off to the side and leave room in another area for diluting color. Do you find it's hard to do this in your palette in this video? Or do you grab your colors from this palette and move them onto another mixing surface?

So. Many. Paints. I mean, I like it, but it's probably better that my bins of tubes are not in sight 24/7 or I'd develop mad anxiety from it XD If you ever decide to get a cobalt teal, I personally recommend M.Graham's. The color is so nice and rich and vibrant ♥ (D.S.'s is super nice too, but different pigment and not as bright).

+In Liquid Color of course! Even though it's a really beautiful cool yellow, I don't think it's a super popular color. Most people just go with PY3, despite the lightfastness issues.
@SadieSavestheDay
@SadieSavestheDay 7 жыл бұрын
+In Liquid Color I could totally see why. I'm in love with PY53 because of its coolness and unique handling. I first heard about this color from a botanical illustrator who uses it to get the perfect dusky greens and blues in leaves that I was having a hard time capturing. PY175 plays better with most colors though, and is a lot clearer and brighter! I can't help myself with yellows, so of course they are both on my palette😅 btw I totally love your series!

Hi Sadie, fun video! I loved watching you paint out your swatches and talk about them. I'm such a watercolor geek! One thing I missed seeing was the M.Graham Indian Yellow next to the DS Quin Gold. On your blog they look very similar in hue. Could you tell me a little more about how the Indian Yellow compares with the Quin Gold? I've got DS Quin Gold and was thinking of getting M grahams Indian Yellow, thinking it was more orangey, but if they're really similar I'll have to find something else. thanks! Jessica
@SadieSavestheDay
@SadieSavestheDay 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Jessica! Omg I didn't realize the swatch on my blog was so off. The other colors are good, but I think my scanner has problems picking up the differences between yellows, because M Graham's Indian yellow is totally different from Daniel Smith's quinacridone gold. If you're looking for a more orangey color, and then yellow is definitely more of a real orange. Quinacridone gold is a lot more golden/brownish and desaturated. Do you have Instagram? If so, I can take a picture of my swatches and send it to you there.

DS has a PY 175 ( see denise ) and PY 97 (see jane )...MG has a PY 97... I am still working on acquiring the Bruce MacEvoy top 40 list of paints but I keep getting distracted. I think I am becoming addicted to watercolours...and I saw your MG gouache video _ I felt like eating the colours. I discovered DS van dyck brown_a combo of 3 earths_umbers/siennas not sure which ones. It is darker and richer than sepia but has no black in it. I call it my Leroy Brown...the baddest brown in the whole damn town_meaner than a junk yard dog ! Sepia is a bit dull. DS goethite is a pleasure to use as it is a good warm, earthy mixer. OMG I feel like eating colours again. Do I need rehab ? I hope they don't put me in the pink room...I might start licking the walls...

+- It's not that I don't like those colors! They are actually really nice! It's just that the genuine versions are toxic. @SadieSavestheDay
@SadieSavestheDay 7 жыл бұрын
+Kashfia Hare Sure! Actually production of this pigment stop several years ago, but Daniel Smith bought all of the remaining supply. So for now they are still able to sell it, but even they are starting to replace it in some mixtures with other colors, and when their supply runs out that will be the end of the color. If you buy a paint called quinacridone gold in any other brand, it is almost certainly not actually going to be genuine po49.

your swatches are good but there is a small correction according to sennelier color chart PY74 is primary yellow Sennelier yellow light is PY153.Moreover sennelier is one of the worst offenders of single pigments almost 60% of their colors are really awkward mixes also their transparency is good but very weak pigment load compare to most single pigment color brand say M.Graham (pigment load is out standing among their contemporaries) DS is known for thier outstanding innovative colors,WN is traditional. FYI...M.Grahams Dioxixane violet now not made of PV37now a days its PV37 its more lightfast tahn pv23.and the most vibrant pb60 its actually anthraquinone blue in M.Graham is outstanding ,W&N and DS both are light valued even in glazes.

I think it is a no-name brand. House brand from Cornellisen’s in London.

Ok, I may be considered as bad for what I'm saying now... Why are you not cleaning your pallets?!?! I opened now mine and I'm like "what's wrong with you?" Only messy thing is holes in paint because I'm using them! Why are you not caring about your paints clean? EVERYTHING IS MADE OUT SO YOU CAN KEEP IT CLEAN!

You mentioned that you stay away from.. "Cadmium, Cobalt, Cerulean, Manganese and Viridian"... but you never explained to us noobs, why?

+Debi Taylor Sorry I didn't explain more about it! All of these pigments are considered toxic. I don't paint with them because of that. Most of them are only toxic if ingested of inhaled (except for manganese which is toxic through skin contact) but I avoid them because obviously paint can get on your hands and many people probably drink tea if coffee while painting. I also avoid them because I would like not to contribute to adding more of these chemicals to our water supply or exposing workers who create these paints to toxic chemicals.

Oh! Thank you so much for explaining, Sadie. I would never have known. I just assumed that all water colors were non-toxic. I recall a few years back when I was using some acrylic fabric paint for maybe 20 hours in a day, where I was doing really fine work (with my nose inches from the brush), that I lost all feeling in the tips of my fingers and toes from inhaling it. It scared the hell out of me. I had no sensation for perhaps a year after that. I don't ever want to experience that ever again.

+Debi Taylor 😲!!! Oh wow! I'm so sorry that happened to you! I totally understand that you wouldn't want to go through that again! I think it's good to be careful with your paints, and I'm glad I could let you know! I have a lot of sensitivities myself, so I try to stay on the safe side of things.

+Miriam Joseph Yes I cut watercolor paper to the correct size and then printed it. If your printer cannot use it, maybe you can use a print shop?
