After much research I’m going to buy one of these for my bungalow home. Placed against the outside wall with ‘V’ outlet pipe, one through the wall into bedroom and one into lounge. Manrose flap vents on the inside. Small marine ply canopy to protect from worst of the weather. Put away in garage in summer and cap off inlet pipes. Got to be cheaper than keep on firing up my oil fired boiler every time. Nothing ventured - nothing gained.

They are absolutely marvellous Martin. The one in the living room only needs to be on for half an hour and it warms the whole of downstairs, so obviously the shed is very warm. I think our local marina sells red diesel, so will try there. I look forward to your experiments. Take care, Jeff

Hi Martin I've been watching your diesel heater videos with interest. The cost of using electric heating has become so expensive I think a lot of people are looking at these heaters as an alternative. I've seen one man on KZbin using this type of heater to heat his house. He has heater in a box outside though. Keep up the good work Martin very good content. 👍

I just bought same unit. Appreciate your video. I need to figure out how to safely plumb the exhaust thru the wall. Stick frame construction in Oregon US with wood cladding. House is heated with forced air gas, quite reasonable on cost. Electric has gone costly, and currently heating garage with 2Kw resistance heater, and shop with 3Kw resistance heater. My last electric bill was 3.5x what we pay to heat the house. At current rates, diesel is cheaper for temperature rise while in use. I plan to keep electric at 52F when not in use. Thanks.

Really enjoy your videos. I just got mine a couple days ago. But I was going crazy trying to get it to prime, pushing the "settings and Right arrow buttons" together. I was getting no results. I have the same blue interface you have, but maybe mine is an older version of the Blue face control panel, watched a video someone made about a year ago with this controller, they got the primer pump to work by holding both the Left and Right buttons down together and that worked for me. Hope that helps a few people out there.

I bought a diesel heater years ago to heat up my garage when I was doing odd jobs. I think I paid £40 used for it, first modification was to put in a fuel filter and run it on veggie oil as its about 40% cheaper than diesel. It runs absolutely fine on neat veggie oil, except when the temperature drops below zero and I have to add about 20% diesel to the tank. When the garage is warm I can go back to pure vegetable oil again. Still not cheap to run, but cheaper than an electric heater.

Martin, you may need to pair the remote to the unit. I’ve got the same controller and remote with the heater in my camper van. It’s been in a few years, but to pair I think you press the on button and the ok button at the same time on the remote. It should then say “pairing” on the remote screen. You then go to the controller and press the arrow key on the right and HFA or something similar should come on the controller screen. It should be paired then. Looking forward for your alternative fuel tests 👍

A cool mod to these would be to utilize peltier devices maybe with some sort of water jacket hooked with the exhaust and let them charge a smallish 12v battery. So it could be really "portable/offgrid" and on the go type of thing... And with a wee bit more electronics it could have a couple of USB ports so you get heat and convert the waste/exhaust heat to electricity...

Not sure I'd want this type of heater inside a building I was going to be in, just from a carbon monoxide point of view. The components look a bit cheap. I'd be inclined to have the whole unit outside, and plumb the heat outlet through the wall. Some white spirit in the diesel would stop it freezing up in really cold weather too. Absolutely ideal for the type of use you're using it for though, and very economical if you can get it running on old engine oil etc.

A really interesting video, one comment, if you put those jubilee clips on the other way round you'd have better access through the slot. A question. With those inlet and exhaust pipes coming out of the bottom does this mean that you can't stand the unit on a flat surface for example the floor? Don't put the air inlet outside, you'll use a lot more fuel if you do. Good luck with the alternative fuel tests, looking forward to seeing them.

Correct the so called supplied flexi will not bend close enough to where clamped. Tried as much as i could with a jig and vice can only now get bottom of pipe to be 3/4" below. Obviously need this to stand on the floor so will be making some sort of 90 degree bend to clear rubber matting. Air inlet i have routed through rear foot hole and up the back. Used lower hole below pump with a stand off around 1/2" long and can then use the longer supplied screws.

Thanks the vid Martin. I've tested these heaters with countless different combinations of engine oil mixtures and the end result is always the same, the burn chamber clogs up eventually, and the unit fails to start (the carbons in used engine oil are just too heavy for the heater to cope with). I would normally say, don't use engine oil in them, but if you've got a unit for testing purposes, give it a go and when it clogs up, make a vid on how to clean a clogged up burn chamber.

I've found it's better to have the diesel heater on the floor, lower the better for more heat..

I think that eunning 100% heating oil will probably ruin your fuel pump after a while. Diesel is a better lubricant. I think a 50/50 mix would be fine though. Great video. My heater was ordered today.

Heating oil has less oil content to red diesel that's why heating oil destroys pumps

I am torn between buying one of these or a paraffin heater for my small workshop. Any advice I would be grateful. Also what type of battery to power the diesel heater ,? cheaper the better !. Thanks.
