@@skyak4493 we so want a Catamaran but can not qualify for a loan due to their stipulations. So we are going to have to pay cash for whatever boat we purchase. Monohull may have to be where we start.
@CheersWarren4 жыл бұрын
It is useful to see a production boat/catamaran, but a little boring compared to the more interesting boats you find. I was recently looking at "sailboat listings" and while some listing are old or by owner there were lots of interesting lesser know brands of cats at much more reasonable cost. Some if these might make interesting comparison. This catamaran is really a daytime sailing type , that flybridge is no place to be on a cold night. Also having all the sailing controls up there make it hard for anybody else help out when somebody else is steering. There was a time when it was important with multi hulls to be able to release sheets quickly before being over powered, probably not a problem with this lagoon but if you were sailing from the inside nav. position and need to adjust something it's a long way to go! Randi I love your jacuzzi idea for the forward cockpit! We used to do that in a small sailboat we sailed on the Hot Chesapeake bay in the windless summer. We would block the cockpit drain and throw in a some buckets of water to 3-4" deep to cool off in! Cheers Warren

The 440 is an iconic world capable cruiser you can easily live on for years. The owners cabin plan is usually in the port hull with the berth forward in a massive cabin and head/shower all the way aft. Accommodations in that hull plan are 'generous'. There were a few layouts for the main bridgedeck cabin, notably the nav is shifted central to stbd but is much larger design. Its usually to find AC and washing machines etc on private 440's, not so on charters which will always be 4 doubles. It doesnt seem to me to be practical to convert. As noted the pull down aft is for the table, sometimes the washer is fitted in the sink unit to port of cabin entry. The most prevailing feature of the 440 is the fly bridge, which gives a very powerful commanding view. Its rare but its still possible to take water on the flybridge so all the usual safety is required. I never liked the stair design, to me this is the weakest link in transiting to the bridge. A 440 will pull like a train with an asymmetric or triradial. The bimini fitted doesnt look stock, its off something else. although they had dodgers Ive never seen one on a boat. Yes the boat is meant for charter, that means warmer climes for cooler folks were added thermal heat is unwelcome. So vertical glass and the small brim above are good solutions for that. This one looks pretty beat up, but if the price is right.... if not there will be others in the present economic outlook, but I would look offshore to Mexico Panama Caribbean, mid Atlantic or the Med for best value.

@@glennbullock1212 Of course not. You could only tweak the course by a few degrees, Which happened to me a lot when single handing from San Francisco to Key West via Panama. I'd think of it as a watch station. Anyting bigger, or when the wind veers, etc would put you above at the helm to where the sheets, etc. are led. The nav station is a good hideout with a view, for what you'd be doing most of the time anyway. For the condition and age it's in and the seeming lack of equipment, it's too expensive. The design is debatable, but my main gripes would be the helm position, the whole layout, moisture in places where it really shouldn't be with signs of mold. Navstation and salon are fine. Throttle control inside but no steering is just stupid. Decent cabins and heads, definitely showing its heritage as a charter cat: Too much sleeping space. I'm guessing with the catamaran craze this may find a buyer, but honestly, at $300k you can just as well buy a new one for a little more.

Over priced. I can see spending $100,000 updating the boat for blue water. The fly bridge needs some expensive retrofitting. The heads are nasty and expensive to update. The squeaking floor boards may be an indication of subfloor structural concerns. Hard to tell. The engine compartments are horrible. To achieve reliability to cross an ocean will require many hours and may require refitting if flooring is oil soaked making it a fire hazard.
