I'm more of a fur baby lover. But this poor little snake was so sweet, and suffered. When the owner described it licking her nose, and sitting on her head, it melted my heart. I had a much bigger snake put on me, voluntarily, and I Enjoyed it. It had a sweet face. I've noticed that they do, and they are different, like any other creature looks different, facially.

Terry was such a chill green tree python. Sure, even snakes vary in personality from individual to individual, but a loving owner certainly contributes to a pet snake being comfortable with people. I feel sad for Jade, and I hope grief wasn't/isn't too cruel to her. Not every animal is for everyone, but there is an animal for everyone, and some folks find solace and companionship in quiet cold-blooded critters. Terry was worthy of love and respect, and though her ailment and passing was awful, she was loved and respected.

I have a snake too. I love her very much, she is like Terry. Loving, interested in everything, even cuddly. She is my baby and my companion. Because of where i live and the time i have, i can't get a dog, but this scaled beauty i have, she gives me all the love i need and brings calm energy. There are always domesticated snakes looking for a happy home. I would suggest to contact pet shelters nearby, your national herpetological society (which can be found in the recordings of the "International Herpetological Committee") or herpetological sanctuaries in your home country.

The difference between Terry in the photos and in the carrier had me tearing up. She was clearly very sick, but still wanted to be near her human. They may not express affection the same way as mammals, but it's there. Poor, beautiful baby

Snakes do not have the same domestication level as cats and dogs (when it comes to science) ... but of course, they can identify their guardian and feel comfortable around them. I agree that Jade being with her made her feel better in her last days 😭

I’m amazes how mellow Terry was especially for a green tree python. I’ve heard that breed can be super high strung and cranky. Very well behaved. Poor girl. She was very loved and it sounds like she knew it especially shows in her calm demeanor.

You could just see in Terry's movements and posture that she was in great discomfort and concern about what was happening to her. But, you could also see by Terry's head lifting and eyes tracking on to Jade, she loved her very much.

Terri is precious, never saw a green tree you could handle regularly, what a special girl. Sorry very sorry for your loss sweetheart, what a heartbreaking thing to go through. When you own snakes, remember to palpate their bodies and feel for abnormalities to catch something invasive early! Wish you hadn’t blurred it, I could’ve learned more from that surgery..

Green Tree Pythons are more docile than one may think. My GTP "Morrigan" can also be carried around, and when I offer him food, he gently and deliberatly takes it of the hook without agressively lashing (as other snakes do). Wonderfull creatures they are ❤❤❤❤

I remember watching this when it came out in an episode, and it remains one of the most tear-jerking stories from Bondi Vet for me. Snakes are not usually social animals, and aren't often considered as being able to develop bonds with their owners like cats and dogs do. Green tree pythons especially have a reputation for being somewhat cantankerous and difficult to handle, but Terry was so calm and well-socialized. There's no question that Jade loved her, and just from the moments that were shared with us and the interactions Jade described, I believe they did share a very special bond. Terry was a beautiful creature and I'm so sorry to Jade that she didn't make it. I'm glad she has Danni to support her through the grieving process, and I hope she has other supports and love too. You don't have to like snakes to recognize that Terry was immensely important to Jade: a loved one and a member of her family. I hope Jade is managing okay. If she decides to get another snake in the future, I know that animal will be immensely lucky to have such a loving and wonderful person to look after them. And of course, a thank you Dr. Dusek, Dr. Gatt, and the rest of the veterinary team for doing your absolute best to get Terry better. It's never easy to lose a patient, but you all showed her such care and respect. You all did right by Terry.

I remember I owned a snake for a few years, she was everything to me, but unfortunately she got sick and passed away, so I made a grave for her and buried her. I remember people made fun of me for that because they couldn’t understand how I could love an animal like that that wasn’t a dog and it made me so sad. I understand that snakes aren’t for most people but being dismissive about my love for an animal that I recently lost is so cruel. I’m glad this person had such supportive people around her.

Jaclyn is such an incredible, knowledgeable vet. She has looked after our ADV+ bearded dragon since he was tiny, and saved his life through surgery. We put him still being with us today completely down to her skill, love and care for animals. The world is lucky to have vets like them, and little Terri's owner gave her the best shot possible by taking her there.

Sadly this can happen to snakes, even in the wild, it isn’t common, but it isn’t rare, either, hopefully this is used as a learning experience for both the vet team and the owner, who clearly adored this snake, and maybe if it does happen again in the future they’ll both know how to catch it early enough for them to survive such an extensive procedure. No hate intended, I simply see this as a sad, truth that can be used to learn and grow as both veterinarians and snake owners

I actually had a similar issue with one of my quails several years ago. She started to lay unnormal, deflated egg shells and then got weaker on her legs and kind of instable. I took her to the bird specialist vet several times, we did all tests, xray and everything. At first the vet couldn't find the issue. Her condition worsened, she got weaker. That's when my vet decided to remove her ovaries and oviductus. Inside there also was a mass of clumped up deflated egg shells. Turned out it all ruled from an oviductus infection. She recovered quite well and lived on for a few more months.

I agree. "Wild species" can live a much longer lifespan in human custody due to good supply and medical care. But of course, we still lack IC-related data on reptiles; let alone on certain classes or species. I suppose that this will better in course of time.

Green tree pythons are known for having a big attitude, they need a LOT of work to be this handleable. They’re gorgeous snakes so they tend tend to make better display animals since a lot of individuals are just forever spicy.

My heart goes out to Jade. You can tell how much she loved Terry, and vice versa. Snakes can show a surprising amount of love to their owners, especially if they are treated as beautifully as happened in this case. They may be cold blooded animals but they're definitely not "cold-blooded monsters" as they're so often described by those who know nothing about them. I hope that Jade is recovering from her loss. It's no less of a loss than a family dog dying can be. They're not just "only snakes". Much love to her ❤️ My own knowledge of reptiles is very limited, mostly learned from Sir David Attenborough and his own clear love and admiration for all such creatures (his "Life in Cold Blood" series is something I would highly recommend to anyone who loves reptiles or just wants to learn about them), and other TV shows and clips on line. I've become a great fan of (someone else!) having them as pets - but only if the owner genuinely knows what is needed to care for them properly and is able and willing to provide such love and time, as well as the money. Exotica doesn't come cheap, financially and personally. It is also irresponsible to have pets that, should they get out, they can cause terrible problems for local fauna, e.g. Burmese pythons in Florida - many are "disposed of" by being dumped in the wilder areas, or even in other people's gardens! They don't belong in the Florida, but they can easily survive there, and, through no fault of their own, can cause devastating results while trying to survive by eating anything available, including endangered local species, pets and actually put children at great risk. Unfortunately, there are far too many irresponsible people out there who have exotic animals of every type (including primates which should _never_ be pets!!!), and they give the best owners a bad name.

An incredibly similar thing happened to my cat he hid it so well that we didn’t know anything was wrong until a week or two before his passing we brought him to a couple different vets he was then diagnosed with cancer we gave him a couple steroids to give him the best quality of life he passed two days after we brought him home. He passed in my arms and was the light of my life I miss that cat so much so I understand how Jade feels my heart is with her I’m sure deuce and terry are cuddling in a better place right now
