It would be great with a topic of foreigners MARRIED to Korean guys. I’m dating a Korean guy, he is very kind and considerate, gentle,… but I feel a big difference in culture when it comes to marriage and the woman role in the husband-wife relationship, so really interested in other people stories.

Marriage is not a "place" where everything change. If people love each other they want to be all life together and they marry and continue to love each other, make their love stronger. If people don't looking for real love, just for pleasure, sleep with each other, then decided to marry and then (surprise) everything changed - this is not normal marriage and not love.

I'm a Korean woman married American men 20years ago. We talked about our role and culture , and I did the wife’s role the way we thought were right. You Dont need to follow “the Korean way” as he describes. Most young Korean girls Dont follow traditional roles anyway, and Korean parents Dont expect that much either. You can discuss what works for you and your relationship with your partner. If he wouldn't compromise, then he will not make a good husband. if you have Korean girlfriends, you may ask them about Korean culture. Some mem uses “tradition” to manipulate foreign women. If he is a good man, he will try to accommodate foreign girlfriend as much as possible.

If they are in their twenties, it’s not strange in Korea. Koreans tend to marry late- in their 30s. Marrying in the twenties is considered too young so many Korean couples stay just boyfriend-girlfriend for a long time in their 20s.

I imagine it's difficult for foreigners to meet people organically. From what I've gathered, from watching these videos, Koreans don't speak to strangers much, so chances of a guy hitting approaching you are slim. A lot of Koreans rely on being setup on dates by friends, so if you are not in a Koren friend group then, you'll probably not meet a person that way either. The only way, really, is going online and meeting guys at Clubs. Kinda sad

In Korea, online dating apps like Tinder aren't as widely used, and clubs tend to attract people with specific agendas. It's often more advisable to meet others through usual avenues like restaurants, mutual friends, classmates, and colleagues. Opting for Tinder and indulging in club scenes can unfortunately heighten the risk of coming across individuals with less favorable intentions, given that these are the platforms/spaces they predominantly inhabit.

As an American, I think that I am too independent and think that I would have a difficult time dating a Korean. Unless there's a guy out there who doesn't get jealous, doesn't get mad that I speak up, and often say "no" regardless of position or age... I understand the culture difference, but I'm unwilling to change who I am or sacrifice my core beliefs. I'm a true believer in love though. If you truly love that person, compromise will find itself.

1. “doesn'tget jeolous”- it depends more on the individual. Korean boyfriends and girlfriends tend to be more obsessed with their partners, but the jealousy or obsession varies a lot depending on the individual. 2.”get mad when I speak up”- Korean women are direct and straightforward. They are not afraid of speaking up to their partner. I found American women were indirect and speak “ considerately “ so it was hard for me Korean woman behave politely in public. Korean men prefers their women speak their opinion directly and dislike women who don't speak up because they want to know how to please her. If a Korean man doesn't like a woman who speak up, then he might not a good man - big red flag for Korean woman. 3. “Say no regardless of position or age”- that depends. In America too sometimes you have to put on a mask at workplace. It's similar to that. You want to be polite to your boss, but you probably speak your mind too, or sometimes you just shut up. For eldery people you should be nice even when they are grumpy. If someone is higher rank or a little bit older, and he/she expects obedient manner from you, that person is an a-hole- so don’t mind them. In short, you don’t need to change yourself. You will compromise with your environment rationally.

I really love your interviews! Those women came from 3 totally different backgrounds and they still have similar experiences in Korea. As some already pointed out here, the concept of Western women being the liberal - meaning sexually super active and open and a bit like typical men - is incorrect. What the women mentioned is being treated with respect and being cared for. A lot of men in Western cultures seem to think that after the emancipation of women and feminism manners are not needed anymore. It's also that many are unable to express emotions and take things for granted. Women are always the ones to care about men and the family. These girls are surprised that those Korean men actually cared for them. It's very moving and I hope Korean mem see this as a huge compliment. There are many cultural differences and not everyone can experience the full on kdrama but those ladies in the interview seem to enjoy themselves. Good sign.
@4651adri
@4651adri Жыл бұрын
The fact that they have manners or treat their girlfriends with respect doesn't mean men in Korea respect women as a whole. I think it's more of a 'couple' thing, like I will treat her right because she's my girlfriend. I'm sure they're very respectful men but I don't think they're very different from Western guys when it comes to respecting women in society. I think Korean people are generally more into the dating and couple culture.
@06Yvonne06
@06Yvonne06 Жыл бұрын
@@4651adri That could be however I blame that on the fact that the social revolution and feminist ideas that have grown in the West for more than 150 years are very new to Korea with maybe 40 years, if we are nice. I cannot treat societies the same way with that knowledge.

@@06Yvonne06 as you've mentioned in some way some ideas of feminism have changed the way in how men behave in some western conutries. I don't generalize, but my husband is British and I'm Mexican. From his experience beign a gentleman or trying to do some things were misunderstood by some British women. They took that as offensive or like he'd have another intention. He told me that he was afraid of beign accused of sexual harassment or being seen as a "macho". Probably, not all women would think like that but nowadays some men are afraid of that. However,he's very respectful with all women and with me he isn't afraid to show his feelings,romantic, caring and gentle side. Things that I didn't experience with my Cantonese ex boyfriend (not all are like him). It depends on each person, their background and their experiences.

i totally disagree. i think that men say that to curb unreasonable female expectations. Like, women equal "nice" with all sorts of outlandish self-sacrifice, so men try to nib that in the bud. Though i agree that "nice" isnt the right word to use for either party in this situation. Also, ladies, most likely you already have very high standards. How about we women try to look honestly at ourselves and at our male counterparts? Analyze our behaviour without false pride or entitlement. I think that would go a long way to being happy and finding a partner.

having standards is a good and important thing but it should be kept reasonable and realistic. Recently I see a lot of TikToks from women who say the only true man are the providers who pay all you bills, buy you gifts very often, being super romantic and have all the classic gentlemen characteristics so they can feel like princesses while the women themselves are most often anything else but princesses and are not willing to put similar effort in for their man. At the same time you have to understand that those traits also come with certain expectations. For example always being expected to wear make up, dress and behave feminine 24/7, don't have any male friends, have sex with him if he wants to etc.. Being nice, gentle and considerate certainly seems like a fair standard. Though I think in current society girls are the pickier ones with higher standards anyway.

Thank you for your words. I understand the pressures that women can sometimes experience. And men, like women, are in the same problems. In Korea, men are required to have economic power, appearance (high height, muscles, etc.), and masculine personality (kindness, patience..etc.). It is targeted with many demands and pressures. K-drama is popular because most dramas are based on women's desires. More than 90% of K - drama/broadcasting writers are women. There is a lot of female desire in it, and there is pressure for Korean men to live up to women's expectations. Of course, the dangerous demands and desires that some men demand from women are a problem. This is not just a problem in Korea, but it happens in most countries. And if we think about it, both men and women have their own pressure.

@saswatakrsarkar9759 in sum: a more liberal culture doesn't make women promiscuous. It is a personal mindset and choice. I don't use my liberty to jump beds, so to speak. Some advice from an European man who is 40 years married and has some basic knowledge of the Korean culture: 6 years of dating equals "I will never marry you and treat you like a substitute for my future partner". Men working at the weekends means that there is a high chance of an other girlfriend. Telling someone that they have gained weight when one is not very acquainted is down right rude and not a sign of concern.

I’m sorry to tell you this. Korean men who are in the middle age and young Korean men are very different. There is a huge generation gap. Many young Korean men are sweet, gentle, romantic, polite- like the nice men in k-drama. (Of course there are many terrible young Korean men too.) on the other hand, most Korean middle-aged men don’t have the romantic manners, and they have patriarchal mindset, which results in high divorce rate among middle-aged Korean couples. (I.e. Middle-aged Korean women are dumping their a-h husbands nowadays). Unless you are looking for very young Korean men, it will be hard to find sweet Korean men. Your daughter has a chance to meet a nice, sweet Korean men if she become friends with many young guys. First become friends- get to know each other well - Ssum - commitment - skinship - ….. Korean relationships take this route typically.

Their experiences are very interesting and positive. Good for them! 🎉 Recently, I've just seen videos about bad experiences of foreigners with Korean men, and how some women have unrealistic expectations as consequence of K-Dramas which make them travel to Korea for finding their dreamed man. Regardless what we see in KDramas, it depends on each person, the background, age , experience, culture, family, how open-minded he/she is and couple agreements. From my experience (I don't generalize), I dated two Asians (non Korean). The first one a Cantonese guy who was born in Canada, even he was very opened minded about women's rigths and beign independent. On the other hand, he was very traditional and concerned about his mum expections. After 4 years dating his parents "suspected" about our relationship but he never introduced me (he wasn't married or dating someone else) just he was kind of afraid of his mum's opinion and approval. His mum wanted a Cantonse/Chinese girl for him, which was funny because his siblings were married with non Cantonese /Chinese. Plus, he used to say negative things about my appearance and my nationality (he considered his comments as jokes). At the end we just broke up, but that relationship was too far from a healthy relationship. The other one was a Vietnamese guy, who just didn't take things seriously. At the end, I've learnt it's just about how you're as a human beign and how your context and experiences influence you. It's funny, but without expecting I fell in love with a Scottish man, who is the most caring, romantic, respectful, kind and loving person (very opposite of some stereotypes of western men).

See if this is a good tip. I think that the goal is to predict if a mate is going to be a good mate. 1. What is their core motivation? If you ask why enough so that there's nothing left to ask, that's the core motive. 2. What will they sacrifice for those core motives. From this you can figure out someone's character and what they care about. It will be very predictive. Narcissists know how to act but can't introspect or explain it. Others are very shallow and you'll see that either they don't have core motivations or the motives are self centered, unhealthy or bad. Finally, if they will sacrifice a lot for something that is a good thing to do, wow, that's rare. It could Jesus, haha. Well, it could be a knight or a real gem.

Straightforwardly to say, most young Korean guys are so sweet only in front of Western beautiful ladies. At the same time, they are so honest to check their girlfriends' outfits or looks day by day. They wanted to have a date with gorgeous Western girls. Hollywood & European movies made Korean guys Western girl trackers nowadays because many awesome attractive actresses have shown their stunning body shapes and fascinating faces. If those Korean males can have a chance to marry Western girls, might do that without any hesitation. The reason is most unmarried young Korean women don't want to become housewives and also want to dodge their housework and babysitting. Recently, many Korean guys who married Western girls became popular KZbin video creators introducing their sweet marriage to subscribers. And they are regarded as a major trend by lots of Korean video watchers these days.

So far, only Korean middle-aged guys from 40 to 50 ages used to marry Vietnamese girls and other Southeast Asian girls such as Thai about 10 years ago. But as time goes by, many young Korean guys have married American or European girls, generally speaking. Most of them have their KZbin accounts and also became popular video creators through other young Korean dude's passionate subscribing. Repeat, I didn't quote the concerned statistical data but just referred to the current major stream on the Korean guys' KZbin channel. You shouldn't have exaggerated what I said. What I notice is any marriage with a Korean person whether woman or man, the person only ends up adapting and changing to the Korean culture. It’s never the other way around. I never see a Korean guy or girl adapting and speaking the other language or culture except one girl. Koreans in the end prefer to stick to their own kind, I also notice this society after watching many documentaries about lonely /suicide deaths of lots of young people in their 20’s to 30’s, its not the healthiest society to live in or married into. No disrespect, it’s what it is. Nothing is like the dramas.

The Israeli woman- conforming to what she believes is right, whereby it should be both the man and woman in the relationship adapting to each other. NO ONE should just adapt for the sake of someone else. Adapting the culture is different. Getting used to it, being respectful is totally different. But to say the foreign partner HAS to adapt (basically change) to fit in is ludicrous 😒. All I heard was red flags 🚩 from her. 6yrs n you are the one who only has to change? No chance. The lady who met the bloke on the dodgy website? I .. yea no words 😂! Dumb move. Just… no. I saw on another platform, someone said this - you’d have more chance meeting a Korean bloke outside of the country, than within. Who knows! Could be right or wrong. There good blokes n bad (women too) everywhere! I dk much about KR to want to visit, even though I do like K-pop guy groups, so I won’t be booking a flight anytime soon👍🏾. Especially not for a guy. Did that once, and never again!😂 Culturally, would be good to see more and know more. But ladies, be careful where you meet blokes! Western women are not the same, but if you’re of a more whiter complexion, you’d have more chance, than someone like myself who is a black female 👍🏾
