Funny thing, about 3:20 you don't need BT and GOAP, use just a FSM, this is wiil be enough for start. BT - is for creating a sequneces of tasks, GOAP about planing that task and FSM is a heart of it. So start form FSM, add BT and then, maybe add GOAP.

FSM's are all well and good. The problem arises in scalability. For each new enemy type you essentially need to create a new FSM for everyone, whereas something like GOAP takes a more modular approach where states can be shared between enemies. But you're totally right, I might just be overengineering shit

@@AddyValentine yeah, this is a problem, but with a bit of sugar, editors and right architecture you can share parts of logic between agents. I don't do that at gamemaker but with latest version you totaly can make it right. Cool videos by the way. Love your voice, humor and style. Keep it up to 100k and above :)

I've been working as a software engineer for 5 years. I don't like it, but I do want to try and get a job with a game company before I quit this career. It would be nice to work on a project that has an end date for once.

Yeah, games really are the same way in that aspect, feature creep galore. Doing a couple of game jams can help scratch the itch and see if its something thats for you. But do you think it's the work itself, or the lack of fulfillment doing some soulless stuff for some company? Making games hits different for me when its for my own stuff vs contract.

Have you tried working with the Godot game engine? It’s an open source project on the rise with a lot of backers and large community. I would love to see a video on your initial thoughts and workflow with it making a small game.

Yeah, Godot has been getting a lot of popularity lately. I haven't been wanting to jump into a new engine due to sunk cost fallacy, but if it's something that you'd find valuable, I can definitely give it a fair shake.
