Model X or iPace for sure... iPace because it's the most unique-looking and sporty, and Model X for all its tech, features, autopilot, and SuperCharging network. Having driven all but the EQC, I can't stand how "slow" the E-Tron is (for an EV), as well as its subpar handling.

Great review! Thanks! The range increases the slower you drive and the more stops there are - it's an EV with substantial re-gen ;-) I get about 200 miles range on highways at 80 mph average speed with my E-tron (live in Europe), car set in Comfort mode, normal winds and around 50 degrees outside. This range is substantially increased in the city and in warmer weather. Love the car, but build quality is really not up to what I expected. The absolutely best thing about the car is the noise level. I get 68 db at 80 mph on Northern European highways with really noisy asphalt surfaces. That is Bentley sound levels. Never experienced that quietness before in any car. (Should be said I used to drive a Volvo V90 T8 plug-in hybrid which is known to be a little bit noisy.). Adding to this is charging speeds which is super good - about 150 kW from 10-80 % which is far far better than a Model X or an i-Pace.
@joakimbjorkman17844 жыл бұрын
I agree, the e-tron is a great car so it comes down to how you use it and what you value in a car. The e-tron is stylish and elegant, from behind when it get darker it's awesome compared to the X. It's a fine line really, however I chose the X as I like the "self driving/ drive assist", spend a lot of time on highways and it drives me very allowing me to arrive more fresh. If Audi would have the same drive assist capability, well a hard choice that would be :).

Forrest - I'm surprised that you did not try, or mention the voice commands that are available with the E-Tron - and the Alexa integration. Telling the car to adjust the temperature is easier and safer than messing around on a screen to locate the controls. Just a heads up. Thanks for the review!

Great job with this review! Small note: you actually can run the AC/heater while charging, but you will have to start it through pre-conditioning (under the Climate menu). It will then cool/heat the cabin to desired temperature for 30 minutes, even if plugged in. Obviously this is not the best solution, but it does in fact work. This can also be done by using the phone app.

You have missed some items about the e-tron. The one you have should of had soft close doors. The center console arm rest does slide forward. The Frunk has a space under the storage space for tire repair items. I have also seen where the head lights will illuminate different patterns on entry and exit.
@forrestsautoreviewsofficial4 жыл бұрын
The soft close doors it did indeed have but I just failed to mention it. The armrest did slide forward but I was referring to an actual cover over the middle storage space. As for the lights, the U.S spec does not get that. You may be thinking of the new E-Tron Sportback which WILL have the headlight animations in the US. Thanks for watching and thanks for being interactive!

People need to ask thes questions before purachsing any electric cars 1) How many charges does it take before the battery starts to slowly degrade ? 2) What is the cost of replacement batteries? 3) What is the environmental impact of discarded batteries ? The battery capacity decreases over time
@greyphantome26174 жыл бұрын
Big Smoke thanks for the response , I meant long term battery storage capacity, it degrades over charge cycles. If you get 100% on a brand new battery today , you’ll probably will get around 80% of it’s original capacity after several charge cycles. Essentially an electric car will lose its range after many charge cycles
@MrSpuzzz4 жыл бұрын

Grey Phantome right now it’s very expensive. Like I’ve read >8k maybe even $15k. But by the time my battery warranty expires 6 years from now, battery recycling companies will have plenty of supply of used batteries to produce replacement packs at much lower costs. And who knows what the future holds for new battery technology? We may have 600 mile ranges at half the current cost, and a 20 year life span.
@cleopatrajones20242 жыл бұрын
Just bought a 2019 3 weeks ago and I love it. On a full charge I get around 240 miles if I dont burn the air conditioner and if I DO, it's about 215. I have gone to the fast charger twice to top it off and it charges fast. I am waiting on the electrician to put in a new line so I can install a 50amp breaker and the 240 plug. I test drove a Tesla and I didn't like the cheapness of the the LOOK of the car. I wanted a regular luxury car that just happens to be electric and all of those people who are talking about how Tesla goes from 0 to 60 in 2.6 seconds need to go sit down. I'm sure its mostly testosterone filled males who plan on getting off to gunning it every time they leave the red light but that will eat your battery up. The Etron's takeoff is way better than a gas car but not as quick as a Tesla. I love my first EV and would never go back to gas. If I need to take a trip further than300 miles, i'll just rent a gas car. I never take road trips.

Any good real world range tests on Model X? I’m too lazy to find them myself
@paull3179 Жыл бұрын
The way I drive my Audis and Porsches I would get 50% of the range in a Tesla or other electric car. A range test done on a highway after midnight on a Tesla showed a 26% loss in range by going 70 instead of 60 and i usually do 85 to 100+.
@paull3179 Жыл бұрын
Electric life is based on going from charge station to charge station. A nightmare on a long trip. I had to travel in my Audi along with a 2022 Model X to Harvard from Toronto for graduations and I had to keep going far off the highway every 2 hours to find a Tesla charging station and it ruined my trip. On the way back I blasted back in 8 hours saving 2 hours or more at 85+.

How far can you go in a Q3 with $29 of fuel?
@forrestsautoreviewsofficial4 жыл бұрын
boofighter it gets 27mpg max on the highway. Considering California gas prices ($4 a gallon right now for premium fuel) and the fact that it has a 16 gallon fuel tank, $29 will get you about 200-215 miles on fuel. Only reason I put California prices is because the electricity prices are higher here as well. Both gas & electricity prices drop in other states.

You’re talking about the user interface, but then call Tesla the obvious leader in the segment, but what segment are you talking about? Because when it comes to the luxury SUV segment Tesla isn’t even in there. A segment isn’t just an electric vehicle. A segment is exactly that a slice of pizza. So within electric SUVs, there are segments of entry-level mid range, luxury ultra premium, etc.. Now, when you’re talking technology, Tesla blows everybody away for sure. However, one of the first things I appreciate when I get into an Audi is how solid it feels when it’s on the road. Not to mention fit and finish is just real premium and not pretend premium with contrast stitching and cheap materials. And God do I appreciate buttons. Give me more buttons. I don’t wanna have to flip through a menu to turn on my cameras. I don’t wanna have to flip through a menu to open my trunk. I don’t wanna have to flip through a menu to turn on my windshield wipers. Those Electrify America chargers SUCK! They’re always broken or don’t charge at the speed advertised. They’re also exponentially more expensive than Tesla’s superchargers. The e-Tron just didn’t wow we at all. It felt like a gas-suv they converted to be electric. The technology is far behind that of Tesla’s cars and the range is pitiful considering it’s got a 95kWh battery. I’d rather have a Model 3 or Y than the e-Tron and keep $25K in my pocket. I hope the upcoming VW ID.4 is a better car that offers more range, more exhilarating performance and of course a much lower price. Hopefully VW doesn’t skimp out on content for US models like they normally do with their ICE cars. I would have preferred seeing a real world range test at a constant 70-80mph, which is how most people will be driving when going on a long trip.
@homeruniverse66824 жыл бұрын
I have heard bad things about EA chargers. Really puzzles me whats going on there. The European Ionity chargers seem to work mostly well, though. Hopefully, EA improve the reliability. You can find very fair real world range comparisons on Bjørn Nyland's KZbin channel. He tests and compares EVs of all large brands. The e-tron strength for cruising/long distance seems to be it's very fast charging capability. Nyland says he needed about the same time on his 1000km test trip with the e-tron than with a Tesla X LR Raven, see kzbin.info/www/bejne/infYaqOhpdqhq9E In November Audi announced they are working on improving the range due to better efficiency. The next update for the e-tron will add about 15-20 miles. They are aware and working on it. I think the ID.4 will have these improvements, too.
@CFG394 жыл бұрын
homeruniverse they need to work a lot harder than they’re doing. I also can’t believe who thought it was a good idea to install 6kW J1772 chargers when that provides such a measly charging speed. Most cars like Teslas can handle twice that. 44mph is a lot more appealing when you’re at a Walmart or something than a lowly 20mph charge. They really should also try to get a deal with Tesla to have either a CCS adapter released or offer Tesla-compatible ends on some chargers. Tesla is by far the most popular EV brand and I literally never see a single car using any EA chargers. Some of them will say the last successful charge was 2-3 MONTHS prior. Such infrequent use is insane. If they had Tesla compatible chargers they’d see their network use multiply probably 10X what it is now.

It doesn't look like he has a subscription. Its $4 month to month, and easily pays for its self with one charging session, since the rates are massively cheaper. Also, when traveling in EVs you only sit on a time based charger while you are pulling max kW. As soon as it drops, you need to be off, and headed to the next charger. That could have been done for a fraction of that cost. I average about $0.04/mile on EAs network as a idea of what i pay.

So, 229 miles on E-Tron.. more than EPA's 204 miles? Nice... still not as good as Kona Electric that you did at 299 miles... Next, can you test Kia Niro EV. I know they are similar cars, but still would be nice to know its real-world range to compare with Kona Electric.

All evs gets more than epa range except Tesla. Always 30% less and they have the biggest battery outthere

Its seem like your driving pretty slow giving everyone is passing you in the freeways 😆. 70 in California freeways is slow mode everyone seem to be driving 75 to 85 mpg. Try that and see what will be your range 👍. 204 from EPA is pretty accurate.

2 miles/KW not very impressive. Also big questions about build quality if you look at videos showing leaky doors and poor electrics.

Ok, do the math... $28.50 in charging cost, to go 164 miles (it had 11 miles range when he started). 17 cents per mile! My S Class Mercedes is 10 cents per mile in fuel... duh

Can’t run the AC while you are sitting in a hot parking lot waiting 30 minutes for a charge!? No way I would buy an EV. They just are not ready yet
That range is horrible can't compare to Tesla or most other EVs released after 2017

So it has less range is slower and costs more to charge. And it’s a German car so will not have indicators and needs driving like a prick. Tesla then, Next!
