What is it like to drive a 2.4 stroker Evo around town? Here I drive my freshly built 2.4L stroker engine Evo (with 272 cams and stock 9 turbo) around town. With only 800 miles on the new engine, it's all still pretty new to me but so far I'm loving it.

Wow, what a clean and smart build. A ton of respect man. Most people just go for high peak horsepower and maximum boost. Also not many people think of autocrossing an Evo! And I feel your pain with the stiff suspension, Dallas / Fort Worth roads can get really shitty.
@EvolutionAutocrosser

Thanks, man! More power surely is more fun but it's also more expensive and can make the car less reliable. I wanted a strong build that I can beat hard that won't fall apart.

Full torque as low as possible sounds great! Especially when it comes to racing v8 cars. Even with that hp I’m sure you can take them easy but what about a fbo v8 on e85? Maybe an with the mhi18k it should take them in easier with it going huge turbo?

ohh only a measly 400hp and 460+tq lol... awesome build man. those are great numbers for Evo to me. now I know there are Evo's with 800+hp but for a daily that 400 would do me just fine

Mike Walsh yes I know 7 months later lol. But my Evo is 740whp 550tq it's fine on the street. Boost isn't until about 5k so I can cruise around town with out touch boost I just have to rev alittle to get moving. Other wise pretty tame til full boost kicks In. Lol

How’s the lag? 5000rpm when it’s barely gonna start? In a race with a v8 with the same hp, it sounds like a lot of lag. They probably pull out far before your power comes in.

You think that car is a struggle? I drive a 2500lb 400/400 RHD STi that does 0-60 in 2.3 sec. I could barely hear the engine running in that EVO. whats your compression? makes ridiculous torque very low
@EvolutionAutocrosser
@EvolutionAutocrosser 5 жыл бұрын
I am not sure about the compression. I'd have to ask Kevin D. who built me engine. What I do know is that the torque comes on because of the combination of engine volume and the turbo size. A larger turbo would give more torque but would peak at a higher RPM.

@bcredeur97
@bcredeur97 8 жыл бұрын
Stiffer springs are great, but remember that a lot of race cars don't use sway bars for a good reason -- they can cause grip loss. I know you have a ton of grip as it is but just make sure you aren't losing too much by going with the super stiff ones. Haven't watched all your vids yet so I'm not sure if you addressed it, but just putting that out there.
@EvolutionAutocrosser
@EvolutionAutocrosser 8 жыл бұрын
You are correct and I agree. I have had four different suspension setups on the car and each one has its different advantages and drawbacks. With the setup I have now it no longer wallows, rocks, or squats but on uneven surfaces the car hops and bounces. the key is understanding the trade off so that you can tune the car is handling to your specific needs and driving style.

You realize that just because you swap in a 4g64 block that ALREADY has a 100mm stroke.. that doesnt make it a stroker just because you put a evo head on it.
@EvolutionAutocrosser
@EvolutionAutocrosser 5 жыл бұрын
Good point. I was calling it a stroker Evo because it went from an 88mm stroke to 100mm stroke. But technically it's just a swap to a motor with a longer stroke. So while the motor itself is not stroked, do you think I could get away with calling the car stroked since the car is now powered by a motor with a longer stroke than the stock motor?

@@EvolutionAutocrosser just re read my initial comment, seemed a little more rude than I was intending. Apologies for that And I mean I always just call it a 2.4L but not really a stroker. How much boost are you running?
@EvolutionAutocrosser
@EvolutionAutocrosser 9 жыл бұрын
Richard Race While I'm not 100% sure, since Kevin D @EvolutionDynamics in Lewisville, Texas did the tune, I think it was around 21 lbs. On the stock motor i used to run about 28 lbs but Kevin told be that with the bigger displacement engine, I would get a larger volume of air but less psi because the stock blowoff valve would not be able to handle it. If I were to upgrade the blowoff valve, I could probably get a few more pounds in there and up the power even more. Maybe.

Did you do the rear diff rebuild? That'll take care of a lot of body roll.
@EvolutionAutocrosser
@EvolutionAutocrosser 9 жыл бұрын
The rear differential has been rebuilt and grips up a lot better. The body roll I'm referring to is mostly the weight of the engine causing the inside corner of the front bumber to lift on hard turns.
@thebamgoer
@thebamgoer 9 жыл бұрын
There's the one theory that the front suspension should be left soft (soft enough) so the front does roll, so that despite the lean, the inside front still has grip and still plays a part in traction. Instead of tightening up the front, and having the inside wheel lift so that you basically have a 3wd car around turns. Sweet car though. Yours is the approach I'm slowly taking in my build.
@EvolutionAutocrosser
@EvolutionAutocrosser 9 жыл бұрын
Ron Gdoer Due to the design of the mcpherson struts, the more the tire travels up, the less camber you have until you go positive then really lose grip.
