What's it like to study fine art at uni? | Northumbria University, Newcastle

Hi, I'm Ria and I study Fine art at Northumbria University, Newcastle. If you have ever wondered what it is like to study fine art at uni then I have all you need to know!
I enjoy this course because it allows me the freedom to figure out what kind of artist I would like to be and sort of establish my own style of making. There's no sort of prescribed way of making art, you can find out with the resources that are available what you would like to do?
When I first came I was quite timid, I expected to come and do painting because that's all I really knew and I haven't done a painting since I arrived. I think I was taken in by all the resources that we had and the equipment I can book out and I really wanted to make the most of it.
Our degree show is happening at the end of our third year and it's sort of an accumulation of everything that we've learnt and made during our three years and it's really exciting because you can invite your friends and family and finally and show off what you've been doing and what you've learnt.
My work experience took place in a secondary school in Cyprus and the
tutors were really helpful in setting that up because it requires quite a complicated risk assessment because it was abroad. They were in touch with the placements team and they really helped facility that.
On the course you can have an opportunity to setup your own shows and your own exhibitions. So you can set them up in places like the Hatton gallery, at BALTIC39 is also really good for it. You can get involved with the Hancock they have an amazing space that you can set at work in.
People should consider coming to Northumbria University because it's very much like a family, there's so much to get involved with in the city and lots of volunteering to get involved with and loads of facilities that you're free to use.

Hello!!! Can anyone give me advice or things I should know about studying art? I'm in biotechnology engineering, I used to like it a lot but I'm not really passionate about it and my anxiety and depression can't handle so much work and difficulty...... I'm thinking about art because I think I would love it, but I'm afraid of change and sometimes I feel like I don't know what I'm getting myself into, can anyone help me?
