In this very year, 1958, I was in first grade. I'd seen "Bubbles the Whale" on TV commercials promoting visits to Marineland of the Pacific, and my first grade class along with the other two first grade classes in our school took a field trip to Marineland on a school bus. We got to see Bubbles the pilot whale, much to my elation, along with a whole bunch of other sea creatures -- that was a great field trip for first graders!

@Todd: Yes, back when parks like that actually were mainly places to see sea life and trained whales, dolphins, and seals. Now, they've turned them into mostly rides-type amusement parks, with animals here and there. :( I went to Sea World in 2018 and I was so disappointed that it was so different from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, when Sea World was actually a marine animal showcase! They also had too many shows that had nothing to do with the animals!

I was born in 1965 and I didn't know about this show until last year! Once discovered, I was hooked on this delightfully unique show!!! And it's so wonderful to meet famous people from the past who are "playing" themselves! As for many of them, I've heard their names, but have never seen them! As for ultra famous people from the past, such as Bob Hope or Lucille Ball, it's fun to see them on this show!

It is delightfully addictive! At first, I watched randomly dated programs. Then I wised up, started over at the beginning, and have watched them in chronological order. The comments made make more sense when you've seen the previous week's show and are able to follow the conversation. Despite the fact many decades separate the original air dates and when we're watching the episodes, I feel as if I know Arlene, Bennett, Dorothy, John, Martin and the compliment of other guest panelists. The usual contributors of comments are also familiar. It's a WML? family!

Bennett missed an opportunity to use the book he just published (“The Enemy Camp”) to make a remark about John. Perhaps something to the effect of “And now here comes the general from the enemy camp, looking to confuse and befuddle us, Mr. John Charles Daly.” He still came up with his own cringe-worthy pun nonetheless.

I think the whale trainer at "Marine World" should have said he was originally from Wales (as I assume he was from his accent). I believe that would have thrown the panel off-track, and he would have bagged the whole game!
@ToddSF9 жыл бұрын
519DJW -- Not "Marine World", actually, but Marineland of the Pacific, which opened in 1954 and closed in 1987. It was located right on the Pacific near Portuguese Bend on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Los Angeles County. Sea World in San Diego, which was bigger and splashier (no pun intended) simply because it opened 10 years later on a much larger piece of land with a bigger scope in mind, bought out Marineland of the Pacific and closed it, moving all of Marineland's killer whales, pilot whales, dolphins, porpoises, etc. to Sea World. In this episode of WML, the card used the name "California Marineland" just to differentiate it from the older Marineland of Florida, which would have been better known to people on the east coast.

I was just disappointed because so many guests have a friend with them; and although Bob appears on this show with his daughter, and at another time with Lucy, I was hoping that he also appeared with Bing, since they were such close friends, and had made so many "Road to" Movies. But alas, I don't believe that Bing ever appeared on this show, although Bob signed in as Bing, on an episode. 😉lol

I’m so GLAD 🥰‼️ Mr. Brown’s voice sounds and he looks like he could fit in with actors of these earlier times, like Ronald Colman, Errol Flynn, Cary Grant, etc. Speaking of Ronald Colman and Cary Grant, my favorite movie that they’re in is called “The Talk of the Town”. It’s an old black & white film, but it’s great!!!
