Diahann Carroll had such natural beauty. Gorgeous with little to no makeup. She didn't need makeup at all. Her figure was to die for. And she was gorgeous even when in her senior years. She never showed her age. I was born in 1955, & in the 60s I would always watch any program if she was on it. I loved the TV show she starred in, "Julia". I loved her appearance on Sonny & Cher. She sang beautifully. Her beauty & figure were incomparable. I was Diahann's biggest fan.

@@disvids8754 Hmmm, one never knows. It is possible. But, then, sometimes the underlying nature of what is perceived as arrogance may be something else entirely. Context is all. As is one's stripe of overall character. In other cases, many a genius comes across as abundantly arrogant - what is, in some cases, evidence of acute, interminable frustration in having few or no peers who truly understand what one's work/passion/thought processes and drives (and attendant sacrifices) are about. Such individuals, many of whom are deeply sensitive beings, endure great loneliness, what would kill many. In other words, that quality of arrogance can mask anger of no small disaffection/alienation, pain and suffering in the face of massive ignorance or baseless prejudice (of any kind). For all her talent, Ms. Carroll was hardly a genius. Nor is this to say or assume that what you perceived as her haughty demeanor, in that interview, is without merit. Not having seen the interview myself, and my not knowing really anything about her personal background, I simply cannot say, either way. Her emphasis on a glamorous appearance, apparently at all times (in the public eye at least), may mask personal insecurity/vanity issues and/or deeply ingrained impositions of the entertainment world which she was well-suited to comply with/adapt herself well to, given her stunning physical beauty. There is one interview I saw, in which she recounted an experience with Marlon Brando relatively early, I believe, in their respective careers. If her story is true, I respected how she said she dealt with it, and how Brando himself responded afterward. If so, safe to say that Brando likely very much respected her response as well - if only for the rarity of it. Apparently, she did not fall for what countless other women had where the young Brando was concerned. Quite the contrary. Yet, in later years, she also openly admitted her insecurity to live alone, not knowing how to live alone, her expectation of her husbands to make her happy, and how difficult a person she was to live with. I don't doubt that. So, arrogance? Not unlikely. But, again, what lies underneath a person's arrogance. Is the arrogance, however off-putting, backed up with legitimate accomplishment and brilliance (e.g., the genius musician-artist-bandleader Miles Davis)? Or does it conceal tremendous personal insecurity? Or something in between? Human beings are rarely black-and-white. Observing any person closely and fairly is, often, to find some quite interesting things. Including, in reflection, about ourselves, yes?

In the spring and summer of 1962, Merv guest hosted "The Tonight Show" a number of times between the time Jack Paar quit in March until Johnny Carson's contract ended with ABC and he could ascend as regular host on October 1st. Wow, this is so poignant. It is Oct 2019, and the lovely, talented Queen Dianhann Carroll has just passed away at 84 years old. I am binge watching her TV series "Julia", and just watched the 1974 masterpiece "Claudine", with Diahann Carroll, James Earl Jones, Lawrence Hilton Jacobs and a wonderful cast of young actors and actresses who played Claudine's children. It is interesting Dianhann mentioned at 19:55 the Birthday Party for President John F. Kennedy at Madison Square Garden the night before May 19, 1962, where Marilyn Monroe did her sultry rendition of "Happy Birthday Mr. President", Diahann Carroll was supposed to perform for JFK birthday at the Garden , however, she was appearing in "No Strings " on Broadway, and arrived late, as President Kennedy was giving his speech: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6aomnqpl96irrM

Those were some terrible questions for the "sport" guys. Why ask about a bunch of individual sports? Start it off with "does the sport involve a ball" and you'd have saved all thoses Nos.

I love that a gentleman can come on this program as a guest contestant and sell baby rattles (or in another episode, an individual is a pretzel twister), and people view him respectfully; and that he has this wonderful refinement about him, a wonderful comportment. I love that on this show everyone is treated with equal respect and concern, that everybody is honored for what they do.There is a grand sense of equality and a similar display of kindness and validation through the interactions between the people that are on it.
