For me, reminders should be a smooth integration between a to do/calender/shopping list, with check boxes that don’t disappear. I’m sure there’s already a way this works, but I bet it’s easier now. Plus if it’s an appointment, add a phone, address, notes all in calender and searchable, including mail integration.

Thanks for demonstrating this. This workflow is very similar to what I've been doing in Fantastical, but without the natural language input. Not sure yet if this native solution will replace Fantastical for me (I do use some of the other Fantastical features), but I will definitely be giving it a try. Fantastical is very expensive, so the question is whether that value is still there over these native apps (for me).

ALL I want from Reminders is the ability to hide the notes field. That's all. If they allowed that I'd be able to completely switch from Notion to just using apple apps. In Notion (and previously Things, and previously to Things, Todoist) I take notes, consistently regarding the projects and tasks I'm working on, or waiting for. Without them, I forget. And without being able to hide the notes field in Reminders it just makes it too messy and complicated to use. So sad. Such a simple thing to do, but I've been asking for years!!!!

How about interactive reminders widget? Did they change it to old (non-interactive) version? After iOS 17 update there is a problem with accidental reminder marking, becouse any accidental touch of the screen causes a risk of marking reminder as a "complete".

Thank you! Is there a way to filter a search for Completed tasks in Reminders? The search function provides the “searched term’s” originally assigned list name, but doesn’t indicate that it is completed. Hi Peter, thank you for your instruction. One question, I'm an Omnifocus 3 user and considering to upgrade to v4. However, now, Apple has combined reminders and calendars, and it seems like the result is quite good. From your point of view, would you suggest upgrading to Omnifocus 4 or keeping use of new reminders?
@PeterAkkies
@PeterAkkies 16 күн бұрын
OmniFocus 4 is a much more advanced task management system, so it really depends on your preferences: what level of detail do you like in your task management? I prefer to track things with some detail, so I prefer to use apps like Things, Todoist, or OmniFocus myself.

Has Apple added the ability to repeat a task from completion, or only repeat from due? Meaning, I want to do X action 3 days after I complete it. So if it takes me 5 days to actually finish it and mark it completed, it’ll generate the next task 3 days later (and not 1 day later).

In my mind the Reminders date and time are just the date (and time) that you would like to be reminded. It's not a "due" date. You can move reminders around willy-nilly and that's ok because it's your choice. Calender appointsments OTOH are specific events at a defined date/time/location, perhaps with other people, with the option of one or more early alerts. These are more anchored than reminders because they tend to represent real-world event -- tho you can set up a Calendar event just involving yourself (but then... isn't that just a reminder?). I'm not sure how mixing Reminders into the Calendar app will help. For now it just looks like clutter. We'll have to see. Hopefully this is not an omen that Apple is doing away with the Reminders app in future releases.
@PeterAkkies

If you highlight some text in an email in Apple Mail, and use the share button. You can create a reminder that links to that email - strange implementation, but it works.

For the date issue…. Set a deadline. Then set a reminder for that event. Like “24 hours before”
@PeterAkkies
@PeterAkkies 17 күн бұрын
You can do that, but I don't always want to decide immediately when I'm capturing a task when I am going to work on it.
@JeffPom
@JeffPom 17 күн бұрын
@@PeterAkkies I understand - and I do like your thinking... But with either method, you'll still be having to decide when you're going to work on it. I think they need to make it easy to edit using either option. So for example, I set a task for my calendar to be done by Friday noon, and I set a reminder for Wednesday, at 6... Well on Monday, something came up and I'd rather start Thursday morning at 10. So I should be able to go in and edit that reminder. Likewise, in your scenario - I set a deadline for Friday noon, but a date of Wednesday at 6 - I should be able to go in and edit that date and change the date easily. I know it's not using the wording you're using, and not the same way of entering it, but I do think it is the same idea, and easy to do either way.
@geoshock1
@geoshock1 16 күн бұрын
I may be missing something, but in that scenario can’t you just drag the date reminder to another time on the calendar?
@JeffPom
@JeffPom 16 күн бұрын
@@geoshock1Sure. But for what hes talking about in his video. He is talking about setting a “deadline” - a hard “needs to be done by” date and time, and then also setting a “but I want to start working on it” date and time. So like I have a paper due for school on Friday by Noon. It’s going to take me 4 hours to do it. But I have meeting Friday morning. So I’ll set a reminder or start date for Wednesday at 10 am. So that if I don’t get to it, I still have the rest of Wednesday and Thursday. He wants the ability to set two dates for a task. I think (especially for the concept of why you’d want two dates) you can set a due date, but then a reminder. I think it’s basically the same thing.

I'm on the beta. "Deadline" shows up as "Due Date" for me. I wonder if it's regional wording variant
@PeterAkkies
@PeterAkkies 17 күн бұрын
You know what, that really could be the case. Either way, it's good to consider whether to use the date as a do date or a due date.

@@PeterAkkiesBeen waiting for this feature too. Although, I wouldn't find it as useful now. I find its use case when I was in school because deadline and do date are much more necessary.

Hi Peter, great video! Very minor point @ 3:15 when you talk about the change of date wording to Deadline - it is currently like that in iPadOS 17 as well. You seemed to be saying or at least implying this was new this year?

Huh… I could swear it said due date before. Now I'm wondering whether it's a coincidence that my notes with math in the Notes app are called Maths Notes rather than Math Notes. Thanks for letting me know Kimball.
