This is one really helpful video. I have just started using Camtaisa, and i must say its not that difficult for a person who has no knowledge of making or editing videos. I had a small question. If that can be answered... The clip speed feature... How to apply it to only change the speed of a particular section, of the complete clip?

Thanks for this great comments! We appreciate it! As far as clip speed, you can cut the section out using the Split tool (put the playhead where you want to cut then "S" on Windows or "CMD+T" on Mac) and once you've made your cuts, apply Clip Speed to the section. Then either lengthen or shorten and push the longer section up against it to close any gaps. I hope that helps!

Is it possible to speed up the playing of the video for editing purposes? I would like to play a project at higher speed when reviewing it so that it saves me time, without affecting the speed of the actual video that will be generated when the project is approved. Thank you

Can this new version FINALLY work with MKV? Left Cantasia a while back as they were lacking this support. Been using VideoProc instead, but I miss the control Camtasia has in the linear editor (particularly the zoom level for exact splices just where you need it), and other features. Stuck in a place where I'm using what I must, because it supports the files I need, instead of using what I like..... I know, I can use Handbrake or such to convert to MP4, but.... this reduces quality and/or adds time. Neither is as good an option as native support....

You mentioned "maintenance updates", how do I make sure they have been installed on my current version?

If you purchased Maintenance when you bought new or upgraded to a newer version, then you'll get the next years version for free! You'll also have access to TechSmith Camtasia's Certification program if you'd like to have some bragging rights. :) Regular updates, such as bug fixes and performance improvements are standard with everyone's Camtasia however, and can be checked for under the Camtasia File Menus (I believe - I'm on a Mac myself, and that's where it is).

I was hoping for more basic quality of life improvements such as being able to more easily highlight 1 frame, having the option to increase the size of the red and green things that you click and drag to highlight things (I often go to click and drag in a quick motion since I'm often doing lots of quick edits and it's frustrating when I click and drag and only realize after dragging that I missed the red or green thing so it didn't highlight anything so I gotta go back to it and do the motion a second time), or how about making the damn thing not stutter for like 10 seconds every 2 minutes? My computer is pretty good so I'm convinced it's a software issue not utilizing the resources of my computer efficiently to keep the project running smoothly. We don't need more bells and whistles, we need basic quality of life improvements that make editing less of a pain in the butt.

Thanks for the comment! 1. Starting with the stuttering: That MIGHT be caused by larger video files - if so, have you tried Proxy video yet? Right-click the file(s) in the media bin and choose Proxy Video -> Create Proxy Video. It'll take a bit to render it out if they're big, but once it does, the editing workflow goes MUCH more smoothly. It'll look a little blurry because the proxy is a lower resolution file, but it will still export as sharp as it was when you filmed. 2. I don't know if we have any plans to increase the side of the timeline handlebars (red & green) but this could be due to screen resolution. If you have a very high resolution screen set to the default, your handles may look tinier than intended. You may consider having your screen magnifier turned on (Windows - Scaling, Mac - Display size). But obviously that doesn't solve it, just a workaround if it bothers you too much. 3. For highlighting one frame, do you mean like a freeze frame? If not, I'll ask one more question after this, but if so, split your clip where you'd like to freeze it, create a gap between the new separation and hover your cursor over the end of the clip and hold Option (Mac) or Alt (Win) to enable "Extend Frame." Then click and drag your ends out while holding Option/Alt. (If you didn't mean freezing a frame, and were talking about highlighting a frame on screen, have you tried our highlight annotation in the annotations below the blur tab?) I hope these help!

@@techsmith Thanks for the reply, by highlight one frame I meant highlighting it with the red and green handlebars, it always toggles between 2 frames and 0 frames and I always have to fiddle with it to get it to do one frame.

@@luminous6969 You can go frame by frame on the timeline with the "," or "." (notice they have the "" arrows on those keys which helps me remember). Use those to move the playhead to the one frame you want, and with timeline snapping turned on, you should be able to get frame-specific selections with the handles now.

@@techsmith The , and . keys move the thing that the green and red things attach to, not the green and red things themselves, so it's useless when trying to click and drag to highlight one frame cos the part you're trying to highlight doesn't move over a frame when you press those keys.

@@luminous6969 Correct, however once you've moved the playhead (the vertical line) one frame over, you can move the red/green handles by clicking and dragging them, and IF you have "Timeline Snapping" turned on, they'll automatically snap to the playhead one frame over. To turn on Snapping in Camtasia, go to the View menu, then down to Enable Timeline Snapping. Then when you move the red/green, bam! It should immediately connect to the playhead one frame over. Hopefully this is helpful! ~Andy
