6 or so years ago I really wanted to learn how to produce but didn't really know where to start. I found a playlist of yours that had a ton of videos walking me through everything about how to use logic. I became an avid viewer of your channel and learned soooo much. I ended up moving to ableton since it worked better for my workflow but you were truly the guy who taught me most of what I know about producing in general. And now I'm making music for a living! This video randomly popped up in my feed, wanted to stop by to give you a huge thanks. I appreciate everything you do for those of us who want or have wanted to make music!!

That Match Gain feature is almost an afterthought and it is the single most important thing in mastering: Comparing. Thanks for the heads up!!! \m/

The standalone option was what I liked most about Ozone 9 Advanced. Put that back in 10 and I'll be in.

This is an awesome review man. SUPER informative about the updates to ozone and just mastering in general. Impact seems amazing. Definitely going to help me with my own crappy resonant mixes! Lol

This was a well done video - thank you for sharing. One thing that would have been nice is to see the gain match used earlier on to really zero in on the enhancements minus the volume boost, but I picked up a few tips, so it's all good.

Version 9 with the Stand Alone version was perfect. I expected Ozone 10 to be the same with improvements- not so, They took away Stand Alone because not enough people were using it so they say. I like what the new modules do, but I can't master an entire album like I did with Version 9 Stand Alone. I spent a lot of time polishing my mastering techniques with Version 9, but can't do it with 10. Also, the time it takes to scan the 3rd party plugins is time wasted. Not happy with Version 10.

Thanks for the video~! It was very helpful. I miss the more streamlined vibe of 9, but I get the direction in which they're going. Hopefully in 11 they can improve and tweak out the details and shortcomings to be more cohesive, because I think that's the appeal. As someone who is more musical and creative minded than technically minded it is fun to use and a great tool for mastering my own music and tracks. The more simple the better : P

Great video. You said that usually you have multiple tracks in Logic when mastering. Can you tell me what happened to Studio One? Because back in the day you said you would use Studio One for mastering? I'm just curious because i was also migrating to S1 once upon a time and now am back to almost only using Logic.again.

My workflow is not DAW dependent. I jump around between Logic, PT, Live, and Studio One depending on what I need to do. If I'm mastering an album or anything that will be released on CD, which is becoming more and more rare these days, I use Studio One's project window, because I like how it allows me to arrange the entire project, and the advanced routing in S1 is better than any other DAW. The ability to make advanced parallel processing chains that are channel and frequency-dependent is really cool. However, if I'm just mastering a single, or 2-3 songs, I'll often opt to just use Logic, if I don't need those advanced routing options.

@@MusicTechHelpGuy wow, this is definetly something I am trying to achieve as well! All thats left is to download S1, haha. I think that multi DAW approach is a cooler way to work, instead of just using Reaper with a bazillion scripts that do-it-all.

Very helpful video, very much appreciated. I just upgraded today and am wondering about the following. I notice that the Maximizer has a default value of -11 LUFS. Is there anyway for this to be permanently reset to a different value? For what I do -11 is always going to be too hot. Also, in V.9 there was the facility to run the entire track to get an very accurate final LUFS in the Maximizer. This appears to have been dispensed with. The few seconds it now offers is not very helpful as far as I can see. Am I missing something with this? Thanks for any suggestions. David.

Wish you would elaborate on why you like Pro-L vs the maximizer? Is it the software feature set, or is it the sound it imparts?
@MusicTechHelpGuy
@MusicTechHelpGuy Жыл бұрын
I actually don't use Pro-L much anymore. These days I prefer the Sonible smartLimit. A few notes: Ozone's maximizer is not a bad limiter by any means. When I first started using Ozone years ago, it was my go-to limiter for many years, and you can certainly get a great sound out of it. I eventually switched over to the Pro-L because, to my ear, it gave me a more transparent sound. The maximizer always seems to break up at loud volumes, or with tracks that have a lot of punchy bass. SmartLimit allows you to monitor the distortion imposed by the limiting, and it seems more transparent to my ear. I'd argue slightly more transparent than the Pro-L or Maximizer. Which is one of the reasons why I made the switch. SmartLimit also has the ability to automatically set your loudness/threshold with AI, by genre. And it's actually fairly accurate, and even has a built in loudness meter that you can set to various sources. The threshold learn function in the maximizer is way off, it doesn't listen to the sound long enough to get an accurate reading and it often (most of the time) cranks the threshold too low, so the signal is slammed. (I mentioned that in the video, and even a commenter mentioned it as well). That's not necessarily a deal-breaker, because you can always manually adjust it, but just wanted to point that out. The third and final reason why I use smartLimit is because of the contour controls it provides. One of the downfalls of limiting is that as you limit the signal, you need more added bass and treble, and less mids to achieve a proper equal loudness curve. These additional controls allow me to adjust this directly within the limiter. I can recover the punchiness of, or smooth transients in my master (style), saturate it if I want (saturation), adjust the equal loudness contour (balance), and enhance the bass if needed (bass control). Just take that with a grain of salt though, because my answer is highly subjective. The difference in quality between the 3 limiters is not night and day, they are all great plugins. To my ear, the transparency and features of smartLimit are the best I've used thus far.

Is it just personal preference that you don't like the Maximizer? Overall It's a highly regarded transparent limiter.

Here's my reasoning, and forgive the copy/paste answer, because someone else asked the exact same question: Ozone's maximizer is not a bad limiter by any means.
