What's Next For My 'Cheap' 911? [996 40th Anniversary]

I jump in my 996 911 40th Anniversary and head to the UK's 'best beach', Camber Sands in Sussex.
I've owned my 996 for nearly 9 months now but spent very little time behind the wheel. With my hunt for an F-Type well and truly on, do I keep the 911 or get rid of it now?

Don't know if those are the types of videos that do the big numbers, but the travel vlog aspect and action around your own cars have always been the two things that always draw me to your videos. There are plenty of those who show new and loud cars, but only few that might take us on a coffee shop tour of the UK.

Mr. Gauja totally agree. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think the only reason the travel stuff doesn't bring in the big numbers is because it's content for a different audience than the one Sam's built up. So it might take a little while for those other viewers to find Sam's channel. The 12 yr olds want noise and speed, and I love that too, but for those of us with an actual driving licence cars are also about getting you to interesting places. That's the whole point of being able to escape and explore and not have to stick to a train or bus route. It's all part of the experience and finding great roads and then a nice place for a coffee or beautiful hotel to rest. I loved the fairly recent Scotland vlog and I still remember Portofino from a few years back. Just a gorgeous vlog that was (just would've liked to see a little more driving, I think this video got the balance perfectly).

I'll just say it as it is in my case. Of the group that you used to travel with regularly before restrictions, you weren't always the first one I'd watch. I think it was only because you were in their videos that I ever saw your content. Fast forward years later and honestly it's your videos that are now always the first to watch and view consistently, regardless of content. There is something about your videography, editing, music choices and random content that is just on a higher level. Honestly I watch everything you post as a rule and enjoy it all. I can't say there is a favourite and it's because of the randomness. You still seem excited and privileged to be able to share your world with us and it comes across as a pleasure to view. Film whatever you want, as long as you're having fun and it's making you happy I'll always be here. Can't help you with the car decision. Just spent a year looking for a newer car and just ended up doing upgrades to my own to make it more enjoyable. I couldn't decide. The 40th anniversary 911 is one of my favorites. But I love 911's and wish I could afford one so maybe it's better to have a Porsche you drive regardless of model.

Honestly the videos you make that focus on beautiful parts of the world are the videos I enjoy the most. There is more than enough car-only content on KZbin, but it is much harder to find motoring orientated travel content that showcases interesting locations with such spectacular editing and filmwork. This kind of content in infinitely more interesting than showcasing a bunch of rich people with brand new supercars.

I think there's been great balance of your content over the last 15 - 16 months of Covid here in the UK. I do like the travel type videos in your own cars, the Abarth project and the adventures in new cars, modern classics etc etc. At the end of day, produce what you want to produce. It's not just about the actual content, it's also your infectious enthusiasm and natural presentation that keeps us all entertained. And if anyone on this channel hasn't subscribed to Behind The Glass yet, go and do that NOW! They dynamic between you and Tony is just brilliant! And when Tony isn't around, other guests are always really interesting. As others have said, there's plenty of other channels for those that want to see the latest super and hyper cars. Keep up the great work Sam. And thank you, for doing what you do.

Love the content with Modern classics. They represent a more analogue age and are of course so much more attainable for STG viewers than the crazy high priced modern Supercars. The STG 996 is a lovely thing and the travel style video using a STG fleet car is great. As for a bit more content and information on the places that you visit, yes please.

After a short comment before a little longer answer now: I‘m all for videos with your own cars! I think it’s so much more natural to see you enjoying them on trips around the country then to always show the newest, crazy stuff with zero chance for you of developing any “relationship” to the product and just giving some specs and initial impressions - it seems like being a brand ambassador for many different brands real fast. On vids like this we know you like the car (because you bought it) and we know you like coffee and also old towns - all great content! We enjoy what you enjoy :)

As a slightly older viewer, I love this type of content. The new car reviews might get more views, but for me they can get a bit lost in the sea of videos all created around the same car? I think your current mix is spot on. Your enthusiasm for your own cars is there for all to see. But what has always set you apart is your story telling, you’re cinematography is second to no one. The time you must spend driving back and forth for the drive-by shots (not to mention the sequence at the start of this video) is certainly not missed on me. I hope the views enable you to just keep doing what you’re doing.

Just do your own thing, Sam! One of the things I enjoy about this channel is the mix of content. On other channels, I get bored of just new car reviews, or someone working on a single project, and definitely anyone who is just do endless useless mods. The mix here is great. Trips to get coffee, a look at classics, seeing your cars come together and get out on the road… and of course not quite possible at the moment, but Drive The World was 💯 Either way, if you’re enjoying making the content, that’ll come through.

DON´T SELL THE 911! We want content just like this! (i firmly believe most of us do) Trips to big or small destinations. Especially in these times when few can travel. Travel content with your own cars is what appeals atm. New / classic car reviews in between are always welcome, I reckon if you would like to take a borrowed car on a trip it should at least be something special, not something that has 40 reviews releasing within 2 months of each other. Track/b road content with the Abarth would be appreciated. Ito the Porsche I think you should try driving it more since you already have the f type on long term. Most of all thank you and keep it up.

Personally I really like the travel vlogs. Seeing a beautiful car in worthy beautiful scenery is far better than seeing it in a garage, plus for those of us wishing to own these cars getting to see them in the places we wish to drive them, and getting you say how good/bad they are driving it, is great info. As to whether it's your cars or new cars? All the things!

I love the travel content. It would be great to see a mix of both your own cars and others. Will still be the best car content on youtube no matter what you do.

Sam, I think either way your product is unmatched. I watch the channel cause the content is truly entertaining. I love all your cars, but your content overall is what keeps me subscribed. Keep doing what your doing man. 👍🏻 cheers

I like the content that shows cars actually being driven, rather than just looking around them, appeals to the emotions that all car people feel.

Please don’t sell the 911, I am in love with it and want to see loads more content on it and more language from you on how it is to drive. I love that car so much I want it, really appreciate the time you put in to these videos Sam.

I like your travels and your car reviews (a combination of both is even better). I would really like to see some more "Driveway Goals" kind of videos. Maybe not the guy with 16 Ferrari's that he rarely drives, but the "mainstream" supercar owner. Someone who has an E63/RS6 with a Vantage/911 and explains why he is so passionate about the cars he owns.

Would love to see more of the car content along with the travel side. Particularly as i live in the UK, seeing you document place, driving roads along with your own cars really differentiates your channel from others. Keep up the excellent content 👍😁

I love seeing the variety of content on your channel Sam. I enjoy the car videos as much as the travel ones. Maybe you could do a road trip in your 911 with Tony driving a new 911 and have a Porsche road trip together!

Starting a project like a restoration may keep viewers enggaged across mutliple videos and keep them coming back. For example during drive the world since it was kind of like an ongoing project I found I never missed a single video of yours. A restoration project is definitely a must do! Also RE the porsche: your 996 has made me love that gen. We definitely need more content with your cars.

Where this all ends is you with your own garage/cafe/coffee shop for you to sell coffee, restore cars and store the ones you have to make content from. Until then what makes you stand out from other car content is the production quality and desire to travel and see new places. Why not lean into it and produce longer form travel content with your cars and dedicate a series to it on the channel while keeping the car-focused stuff for the people that like it as well. A lot of petrol heads have other interests as well and like to learn new things. P.S. you should also definitely start restomodding/restoring, again where you are different is your love for older cars as well and this content has a lot more potential with the ways things are going with new cars/electric.

Trips in your own cars, with an emphasis on how the car was to drive, the cabin experience, the ride, fuel usage etc. Then a brief roundup of the places and any highlights. That would be awesome!
