I think granular access should be Notion's priority. They could release the function that joins the database as happens in "tasks" in Home.

Granular access would be a game changer! I am sure the team knows this and is working on it 💪🏻

The comments about learning Notion are very true. Perhaps I am trying to walk before I can run but I struggle with getting some results. For instance I would like a screen showing my projects database and my tasks database. I want the tasks database to only show the projects selected. So if I filter projects on "deals" then I only want to see the tasks for "deals" if I filter on one specific project I then want to see the tasks just for that project. I can see it helping with weekly planning. Never really found a video showing me how to do that. Excellent video as always Matthias.
@mfreihaendigАй бұрын
Thanks, appreciate it! 😇 For your use case, there‘s unfortunately no direct way to do this rn, since filters set on database A can’t influence filters on database B (There isn’t a „currently looking at x“ filter) What you can do instead is build static separate versions of your dashboard for each project type and pre-set the filters for both databases to achieve the same effect 💪🏻

@@mfreihaendig Can you bring in related fields into another another Database. For example. I have a project that is a "sales" project. It will have a number of tasks. If I am looking at the task database how will I know what tasks are related to a sales project? If I can have the "Project Type" pulled into the task then I can see how it can be done. Likewise the sales project will have Milestones of Tender, Contracts, Awaiting Live, Live. Each of those will have a number of tasks. If I am time blocking to work on contacts that have gone Live, how can I view them? If I am pulling the milestone field into the task then again I can see how to do it. Do you have a video covering this type of solution.

@@mfreihaendig Many thanks for the response. Is there a way when using related databases to access fields other than the related field. For my example. We have a project database and the project TYPE may be DEAL or ISSUE or LIVE. The projects will have a number of tasks. Can the task pull in the project TYPE. Therefore if I am time blocking and working on DEALS and I wanted to search all tasks for project type DEAL, I could easily see them. I would not want to enter the data twice in the project and the task. How would you set this up? Do you have a video so I can watch it.

@@Smaffs59 Yes, you can do this using Notion Formulas 😇 Here's an explainer of how to get started: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4aoc3qdYpx_ac0

As much as I love notion, I do struggle with their current version of calendar app. The fact, that you can NOT modify nor display any other field in calendar than "Name" is simply appalling IMHO. I hope they will make their basic tools work properly first, before they move on to develop all of the nice to have but not essential functionalities.
@mfreihaendigАй бұрын
Yeah I hope they improve this - I know it’s on the roadmap 💪🏻 To be fair though, I‘d argue the main app plus onboarding there is more of a core product that the calendar ;)

Where is the Notion Calendar for iPad? Where is here the innovation?
@mfreihaendigАй бұрын
I think it’s still a small team working on the calendar, so probably not the biggest priority - shouldn’t take too much longer though I‘d assume now that the android version it out 💪🏻

@@mfreihaendig What's the problem - making the UI bigger? Cron has already failed to live up to its potential. People are talking about Notion Mail...before that comes, they better bring a decent calendar for iPad. A shame for all iPad only users 😡
@mfreihaendigАй бұрын
@@eMotionFlowing fair point, though I think different users have different priorities. I personally never use the calendar on iPad so I'd rather have mail than that 😎 Let's hope we get both soon!

Not that I remember - just enjoyed the moment! 😎 (And I tend to make sentences longer than necessary 😅)

Notion calendar for Outlook? Google calendar and email are never an option for several reasons, mainly GDPR, real folder structure and local client. the interview itself and the answers are much too vague to me, no real facts only smaltalk level from Notion guy.
@mfreihaendigАй бұрын
Well it was more of a big picture conversation - but if you‘d like to see a more feature specific one in the future, then I‘ll add that to the list! Regarding outlook, I‘m sure the team is working on that! 😇💪🏻 In the meantime, Morgen Calendar might be a good alternative for you that integrates across the Microsoft & Notion ecosystem

For Akshay, my two cents would be to look at the Mobile App. If you have a 200 row database with about 40 properties including formulae and charts integrated into it, mobile just cant seem to open it. It keeps rolling and I have to force shut it. I have come to a point where I feel Notion should discontinue the mobile app if they are not serious about it. The iPad is a tad better but , would pass using it. I have been a Notion user since v1 probably so I probably appreciate how you have grown but please don’t do half baked stuff
@mfreihaendigАй бұрын
Yeah the apps could use some polish for sure but honest question: what are you gonna do with 200 rows x 40 properties on mobile? 😅 Surely most of the properties can be hidden so that you have a more minimal view for the mobile workflow no? 🤔 Do you still have the loading issues in that case?
@muralibalaramanАй бұрын
These are knowledge bases that Akshay referred to in his conversation . If that’s the bulk of what users are using Notion for, they should fix it right ? If you have stock trackers, creator db’s or project trackers you would easily have that going in a mid sized business.
@mfreihaendigАй бұрын
@@muralibalaraman sure thing, what I meant was: How often do you need to reference a database with dozens of properties (visible) on your phone? Just curious about your workflows - I use Notion 99% on desktop, with the phone being used for quick entry and to look something up
@muralibalaramanАй бұрын
@@mfreihaendig I use it when I am away from my desk to capture a detail I missed. My databases are pretty dense, since they involve live projects. I would love to capture it on a desk top but sometimes that’s not practical. I am a firm believer in theta waves for brain storming.
