Are foreigners really necessary in the workplace? Can Singapore’s economy thrive as much without them?
In this episode of Tea Talks, our hosts speak to a foreign professional to find out what it is like working here and what she brings to the table in her workplace.

Glad to see a more balanced, welcoming take on foreigners coming to SG. There's so much vitriol by locals against perceived "threats" who're "taking our jobs"; yet the most sought-after roles here are by foreign MNCs instead. Hope we can all find a balance that helps us succeed together

I hope MOM have same mindset as that guy foreign national is complementary not competitor and they should ease the quota regulation bit. I do know some SMEs are in big dilemma they cant attract local talent at the same time they couldnt bring foreign professional due to quota restriction like that how they will grow? If you allow them to bring foreign they can operate their business smoothly and allow them to expand their market to international market in the end Singapore gain more advantages cause more singapore company tap into international market. I hope they really think about this

While I agree that foreigners should be complementary, I do know of some companies that outrightly just hire foreigners simply because of the fact that they are cheaper. Although they don't openly admit it (nobody will), you can tell by the boss's behaviour, tone, and just overall body language that he just wants the cheapest option available - which is not wrong considering that he's got rising operating costs to deal with. And when they don't have the quota to hire because of MOM rules, they say "Oh because Singaporeans are fussy, don't want to work". So back to the hiring of foreign workers part, it becomes a situation where its like you just want to eat a burger, but you don't know the difference between different brands - You have a $3 pasar malam burger infront of you and a $15 slightly more expensive fastfood restaurant burger. But since you see it as a burger is just a burger, you'll go for the cheapest one. Likewise for some SME bosses, they see it as "a worker is just a worker".

Having given talks to MNCs in 2023, the masive increases (+30-100%) in rental have resulted in a S$5-7000 basic 2-3 bdrm Condo going to S$8-12,000.00/ month (and up)..a number of my corporate friends making S$250,000 could only pay the rent and Tuition (S$40-50,000 per child at International School)..sayonara baby..I am the ONLY Ang Moh on the MRT after you leave raffles Place..gonzo..other SE Asia cities nice lifestyle at ~20-25% COL of Singapore

SG shld be pushing youths to gain more capabilities and improve their skills instead of shady SMEs hiring their fellow ppl from their own country.... importing is such a lazy method

The propaganda is strong in this video... Yes we do need foreign labour but only those like this lady who can assimilate into our culture. Not those who bring their unruly ways and refuse to assimilate.

You won’t know until they moved here to live for awhile though. Why not welcome them first if they can contribute? They will leave if they don’t like it anyways. 😅
