I’m fortunate enough to own both a Taylor 6 and Taylor 12 string. You’re right on the money. For those songs originally done on a 12-string (and even many that aren’t) you can’t beat the tone a 12-string gives you. And I literally lol’d at the false start for ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’. I have to do the same thing if I go too long without playing it. Great video, Mark!

I always wonder how many takes guys like Paul davids needs to get it right. I'm pretty convinced that Matteo Mancuso hasn't made a mistake since he was 4. Last night I thought about getting a nice high-end acoustic. Although I never do it on the channel, I focus primarily on playing Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel fingerstyle, and I've gotten proficient enough to where I'd like a Collings or a Santa Cruz. But then I think "it probably doesn't get much better than Taylor." That's for the support. Take care and be well. Mark

After about the second or third pass, it's better if you just don't bother. Although, if a twelve sounds like shit and you just can't quite place it, it's usually the D-4 or A-5 octave.

Hey Mark , Did you know Alex Lifeson played Closer To The Heart on a 6 string in a Trailer Park Boys episode, while teaching Bubbles aka Mike Smith to play it ? However, once they both began to play the 12 string effect kicked in which brightened the song right up. which to your point in the video was just that, the 12 makes a song sound fuller and brighter. Hey Matthew. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and to let me know that you're enjoying the Vangoa. Somebody complained to me last week that I have sponsored ads and I'm not flagging the video as such. I don't do any paid sponsorships. That's part of the reason I wouldn't agree to promote Vangoa's 6 string guitars. They're fine but I couldn't possibly keep up with all of the entry level 6 strings. I know that Vangoa makes a quality instrument at an affordable price and that they provide first rate customer service. They wanted to work with me when I only had a few hundred subs. They are good people. I'm happy to do them a solid. Question. Do you use a thin pick when you play the 12. If you don't, give it a try. It makes it a lot easier to strike the string sets evenly. Take care and be. well. Mark
@matthewwinkleman7245 Жыл бұрын
@@8MinuteAxe I use a thin pic when I'm mainly strumming. However, I do like a medium pick when arpeggiating or picking single notes. One recommendation, I much prefer EB Silk and Steel strings on this 12 string. Even with setting up the guitar, the heavier steels were still too taught for my liking.

Thanks so much for always supporting. Mark
@captaincrankysdock9730 Жыл бұрын
@@8MinuteAxe Yes but "Norwegian Wood" was played on a sitar. As I believe the Stones "Paint it Black" was as well. A 12 string subs out nicely for the melody line in both those songs.
@stevenkarnisky411 Жыл бұрын
You are correct on both counts. But just as there is no subbing a six for a twelve, there is no real sub for the sitar in either of those tunes. Not to say you cannot make the songs sound really good with different instruments; just that they are different to the ear.
