Can you do one on the KL/KLZE DOHC V6 from Mazda. I assume there will already be an "iconic engines" on the rotary and BP. Everyone already knows about those. Most overlook the KL simply because they don't know about it. But you can fit it into small engine bays and make plenty of power NA, weight is comparable to a 4 cyl. It has a similar system to T-VIS instead of VVT. Built for 8k, limited to 7500 still a 250k-300k mile engine. One of the nice things about it, more than B18C power for around $1k . The limit is mostly the transmissions that bolt up to it. NA with the right ECU this 2.5l can match a WRX in an MX-6 or a Probe GT. I would like to someday swap one into a MKII MR2. Do the exhaust right and the sound of a KL is one of the best. Some nutter put one in a 944, turn it up! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGiUgXZpqbmda8U

driving 4 answers MIVEC is not like VTEC because it doesnt actually have valve lift... only intake and exhaust variations
@1magnit4 жыл бұрын
Mivec is just a marketing name. The earliest mivec on the 4G9x is the same as the original VTEC as is the mivec on the 6A12 and the 6G72 and 6G74 The mivec on the 4G63 is VVT on just the intake cam and the mivec on the 6G75 is yet another system but just on the intake cam.
@maybelive7654 жыл бұрын
1magnit the VTEC we know as the "Kicked in Yo" version is definitely the one that has lift + everything else. So comparable to VVTL-i but with both intake and exhaust (I dont remember if the 2ZZ had both but the naming schemes were always weird on this so...). Although MIVEC is even harder to distinguish as VTEC or VVTL-i systems, it never touches cam lift which brings it totally apart from the other manufacturers. Oh wait did the 4B11T have lift? I dont remember

Completely agree with the segment about guys blowing the 4g63 up while tuning. The guys who tuned my evo 9 were TRYING to blow up their shop 8mr (as they had a built 2.3 ready to drop in) and wanted to see what the stock block could handle. With only head studs said they were running 45 psi with no failures.

I have a 1991 DSM turbo AWD and I love it. I always loved beating almost everything in stop light drag races. Now what I love even more, is all the young people have no idea what it is when they see it. The huge FMIC grabs their attention, then I get a "WTF is that? A Sylvia?" And I'm like " nope, it's a DSM!" The confused look on their faces is priceless!😂

Crankwalk was multifactorial. The 1st gen 4G63T had oil squirters for the pistons. The 2nd gen changed the design with the addition of a valve to the oil squirters. They were to open only at a certain rpm/load. That valve would fail. And thus you'd get low oil pressure at idle due what was essentially an internal oil leak at the pressure side of the system. Over time this would prematurely wear the thrust bearings. Usually more on the side that was being pressed on by the actuation of the clutch. Which brings to the other main reason. Which was aftermarket clutch assemblies. The aftermarket solution at the time was usually to use high pressure pressure plates. I.E. the ACT 2600lb clutch kit. At 2600 lbs of force everytime you shifter you were putting a lot of load on the crankshaft by way of the diaphragm. This combined with failing oil squirters would cause thrust bearings to fail often. Obviously lack of normal maintenance would cause this too. But the 1st gen engine simply didn't have this problem because it just didn't have that oil squirter design. Crankwalk was real. And it was a stupid design change to an otherwise bulletproof engine. Did it happen to every 2nd 4G63T? No. But mostly because when it did it was lack of maintenance and or modification. But nevertheless it was a flaw in the design. It was a failure point that was easily preventable.
@edwinlomonaco67544 жыл бұрын
Also 1st gen engines are referred to as the 6 bolt. And 2nd gens as the 7 bolt. Named after the fact that 1st gens had 6 fasteners for the flywheel to crankshaft assembly. The 2nd gens 7.

There are tons of 4g63 from gallant vr4 halfcut transplanted and 4g63 evo1,2,3 into proton wira/satria/putra( lancer, mirage, lancer coupe) in malaysia. Mitsubishi engines had a big fan base in Malaysia, 4g63 were popular, along with 4g92,4g93 especially mivec versions of 4g92. Some people used 4g92 mivec head on 93 block, having the rev and highyflowing head on a block with same bore but bigger stroke. 4g15 were commonly found too. By what I meant popular, does not mean everyone is using it, but it was more of a topic during car conversations. And plenty of proton wira fully converted to evo 3 in Malaysia. Cheers

Hyundai's 4 clys are actually very similar to the 4g63 and later 4B11 engines

because those were manufactured by Mitsubishi aswell.
@ubacow7109 Жыл бұрын
@@danyyeager They were manufactured by mitsubishi, but it was part of a program called the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance which was a joint development between Chrysler, Mitsubishi, & Hyundai, which is now entirely owned by Chrysler unfortunately who didnt really do much with it, ironically Chrysler made the worst engine of the bunch but each manufacturer took a basic platform and made adjustments to the base design and tweaked reliability, performance & efficiency for different market segments.

100% chance of crankwalk if you install a heavy pressure clutch. That heavy clutch pulls on the crank and wears out the thrust bearing. Stock clutch is no problem with crank walk.

The Orion can still run to this day. Our old first gen Proton Saga was slapped a Mitsubishi engine due to having Mitsubishi to aid in Malaysia's automotive industry back in the 80's. Kinda miss the day when we were with Mitsubishi though. We could've got ourselves our own Eclipse had Proton make the Putra AWD. This engine is perfect for it.

The 4G63 is a 2JZ of four cylinder, it's indestructible, capable of 600 HP + with minor mods, much faster than Subaru's EJ25, Toyota's 3S-GTE, infact if this engine isn't any good, no other people's would swapped their boring compact car engine to this holy grail of four cylinder, when you give this engine with a anti-lag it would produce an awesome fireworks sound...

You forgot the 4g69😉.. It's also 2.4 like the 4g64 but the same deck height as a 4g63, so evo dohc head and timing belt can bolt straight on unlike the 4g64 which is 6mm taller. 4g69 also has 100mm crank like the 4g64's and 150mm rods like a 4g63 but you need to use something like a Wiseco K627M875AP forged piston which is slightly oversized needing an 87.5mm bore but has the correct comp ht and takes it from 2378cc to 2405cc. Plus a 4g69 short block here is about $70 lol

19:07 I wouldn't do that. Seen a few jumped time or broken belt 4G63's where the lifter collapsed rocker turned saved the valves and pistons(left tiny line on cam lobe). Solid lifter would just allow piston valve destruction ruin head and block possibly. My machine shop guy said it's a common issue since all the ricers run no timing covers all the time even the lower one....

No one's gonna talk about 4g9 series engine, this popular in Malaysia and we even frakenstein it by merging 4g93 1.8 block with 4g92 1.6 mivec head

if anyone can get their hands on one of those Lancer 2000 EX Turbo do it. in Australia they sold as Mitsubishi Sigma Turbo. great car to dive. there was also a Coupe version badged, the Starion. which where rare even then. very quick car for the day and with some love can really surprise people. even is standard form in the wet or on gravel, it will try to kill you.

If we are in rally Japanese 4 cylinder theme and you are into Toyotas what about 3SGTE? Also there will be cool episode about Ford YB (Cosworth) engine - sort of European 4g63 Also worth of mention that crank walk might be caused by too aggressive clutch with very strong pressure plate and how to deal with that.
