I was lucky to grow up spending summers there and to be 100% I don’t really find it to be that appealing or recommend. The people aren’t that friendly and everything is really inconvenient to get to. It’s not the same as other destinations of similar nature like Cape Cod or Martha’s Vineyard where you can still do stuff and have fun even if you don’t have a lot of money. It’s pretty difficult to do anything in the Hamptons if you aren’t from a wealthy family. Which I found made it feel really stuffy and white washed. If you’re looking to visit the east coast and want to go to a fun coastal spot I’d check out one of the two mentioned above as well as Newport or Nantucket

My husband and i had a shop in the Hamptons for 4 fabulous years. Couldn't afford to stay. The area has stunning natural beauty and gorgeous architecture. Each town has its own character....privet hedges in Southampton.....colonial homes in Sag Harbor.....and charm galore. The road to Main Beach has huge trees on either side acting as arches....not the usual scrubby beach shrubs . At the end of the road is one of the world's best beaches. All a bit of heaven

I actually love the Hamptons and think it's beautiful. I don't socialize or go out, but if you wanna get out of the city, be with family and friends and enjoy peace and quiet, it's perfect. I think people have a misconception about it, like it's LA or something. It's really not. It's actually the complete opposite with some of the most picturesque views in the world.

This video must have been made by tourists for tourists and explains why a bunch at sloppy snobs come and treat the Hamptons like a resort. The history and daily life of the locals of the Hamptons is much deeper then art or food or money or big houses and prestigious events and the beliefs this video instills about the Hamptons is what is and has been slowly and steadily pushing out the the simple beauties and families that have been milestones in the community forever that have protected the nature and simplistic lifestyle that generations have known and worked hard to preserve. There’s many more small houses, and undeveloped protected land, the land we fight to use that has been used throughout history by our ancestors to fish and make livings for themselves. The history of having navy and army bases. The history of early black settlers in sag harbor and the shinnecock Indians that where hired to run whaling ships because of there knowledge of it. The history of great rescues at sea and family and friends that built the entire community together. The stories fro The history out here are beautiful and intertwined in many different aspects from the sea to land. The Hamptons should not be considered or treated as resort towns but treated with the respect of what it is, a historic land mark with large amounts of tradition and respect. If you want to experience the Hamptons do yourself a favor research the history of each town and hamlet and come visit with respect for how it got where it is today.

Nothing special. I lived in NYC when I worked at a downtown investment bank. I’m from Los Angeles and the Hamptons had zero appeal to me. People liked to go there on the weekends in the summer. However, I preferred to stay in the city. That way, I could get a break over the weekend from all the A holes that I dealt with during the week. NYC however was also an open air toilet so I got out of there as well and never looked back.

The Hamptons are a series of very beautiful historical villages, with gardens, trees, and beaches. However, many people who live there, and VISIT there are extremely entitled, snooty, and judgmental if you’re not as rich as them, they show off their wealth, and are (most likely) extremely insecure.
