There’s a fairly long list of public transit projects that have gone off the rails all across Canada. These projects often end up over budget and face multiple delays. Is this problem unique to Canada?
Oliver Moore is a journalist with The Globe who has covered transit issues for years. He explains why this phenomenon keeps happening and what public transit agencies can do about it.

We need to build pipelines, they will pay for transit hospitals doctors and nurses, maybe lower cost of living too. Resources pay for everything

Resources pay for things, but only when the government allocates for these things. Which conservatives don't.

Vast, vast distances, sparsely populated regions, incredibly large capital outlays for unacceptably low ridership....to name a few. Add to that Canada, federally and Ontario have HUGE record debts and ongoing deficits with declining revenue streams and slumping foreign investment.

no one's saying build transit over every crevasse of the country, but building it within urban environments to better facilitate movement of people, and stop taking "no" for an answer when grade separation is scoffed at. Transit needs to be elevated, underground, or separated from traffic COMPLETELY to make the biggest difference, and running LRTs at-grade within mixed traffic gets that "unacceptably low ridership"

@phriendlyphotog unfortunately that lane robbing, traffic sharing was exactly how Ottawa built their ridiculously unreliable, over budget LRT. It's cheaper to steal existing traffic lanes for public transport, so that's why it happens in practice. I drive in from the West on the Queenswar and after decades I glance over at the virtually empty high occupancy lanes. What an infuriating waste from the minds of the woke.
