It looks like an attempt to break the boundary layer (friction) between the hull and the water. A large loss of efficiency on ships. Google states breaking the boundary layer also reduces wake which will also increase efficiency.

I am thinking stability. They would disrupt the water flow so not sure how it would make the boat more slippery. I can see in rough waves it would have a potential positive impact. Those are guesses.

Dunno? I assume they are designed to create an air bubble slip stream to reduce drag on he hull and make the boat more efficient? Dunno?

@@walterdavis4808 Yes, but then their purpose is to act as a "lifting strake" to create lift on the bow and get the nose up a little bit and YES large strakes at the waterline act as anti spray rails.

Guess we need to make a road trip to New Bern. Maybe find an old retired factory worker and ask them what they were for?

A proper Road trip includes an old pickup truck, a pack of Twinkies and Cigars.

@@charlesdavenport2543 I guess old pickup trucks are not electric, I was considering an EV, we could stop every few miles and enjoy donuts and Dr Peppers while watching the truck charge? Might even have a few May Pop retread tires too?
