I like the way you phrased the response. In a lot of video games, the answer to "what's the best X" is often "whatever you enjoy the most". It's true of a lot of fighting games, MOBAs, FPS', any game with selectable playstyles. And while those responses often make sense from/to people who understand the game well, it can be frustrating to newer players, because they just want to jump into whatever is the strongest and be OP, because that's what they find fun. This video gives the same answer that most people do when it comes to this discussion, however, you gave a detailed history of the weapons and their placements, and why the answer is the way it is. Overall, I think a newer player looking for the best weapon will come away satisfied with the traditional answer.

But that's after 4 minutes of rambling on the history which I personally don't care. I would not care about what's in the past that I'm not part of. I would focus more on what's good now and what's the outlook for the future patches.

Cruel Riftstrike in Chain Blades is very fun to use. It's not as powerful though, since the damage buffs don't apply. It's fun to think of ways to bring out the individuality of each weapon.

I just started and the main thing I WISH there was is a lock on mechanic, I use war pike because I love how fluid and rewards aggression.

I'd say strikers are the more all round weapon since even if the behemoth is very mobile you can still deal dps despite being a melle weapon, they are fast wich allow avoid attack easily(not like axe were you heavy commit to 1 attak) and can stagger as good as any hammer.they have become my favorite after the chainblade awful rework

I think my only issue with the weapom balancing is the state of the axe and chainblades. Chainblades are easy to learn but not worth picking over sword or strikers currently. Axe you get rewarded if your playing hunting grounds or escalation but trials its probably the worst weapon you could use and that saddens me its the weapon ive used 95% of the time since the game was first available on xbox like first day available. The only time its really outshined the other weapons was in the shock escalation due to that 1 malkarion perk that made it busted. Im hoping this upcoming year chainblades get a slight buff and maybe an axe rework, not a super intense rework making axe a chore to learn i like that its a simple weapon but you dont get many styles with it, light attack, heavy attack, axe throw. Sure you can charge 2 of those attacks but just for meter gain and slight damage increase but you sacrifice how quick you can attack and stamina

tl;dr I agree with everything said in this video, however if you are regularly playing in large groups there is an answer to this question and it is Marksman Repeaters I'm extremely happy that the game is in a state where even the worst weapon in the game can comfortably get top100 on even the most competitive trial, that is awesome. Solos balance wise are an amazing place, but I think groups actually does have an answer. Repeaters having perfect precision, 2 extremely strong team buffs AND the potential to be the best solo weapon in the game (heavily behemoth dependent however) is ridiculous. I would say the same about Warpike, but warpike has the single weakness of the fact that you actually only need 1 dedicated warpike even in a full group to still get fast wounds and keep constant crit aura up. If you play Warpike and you happen to get with a team that already has a Warpike you're less of an asset to your team(you still make the other Warpike's job a lot easier though and the game more fun for both of you though, even I as a sweaty loser am always happy to see a 2nd warpike in my escas and HG's even though it is worse for my team👍). However Repeaters do not have this weakness, 1 repeater in a group is amazing, 2 repeaters in a group is amazing and in several trials even 3/4ths of your team being repeaters is the most effective tactic available.

The guns are prob the best for gathering crafting items being you can target specific parts to get the materials that it gives after breaking or destroying that part

As a fairly new player myself sword is pretty good you get ho back whilst using your valour stacks, I also use repeaters a lot. My next choice is pike and then il give hammer and axe a try but so far all weapons seem pretty viable for group play. Repeaters, I find the hardest for solo play, though, but maybe it's my setup with the cores as not sure which ones I should level up and use.

I only use chainblades and they are ok not good for speed running but they are good if you choose the right build for a boss or casual play.

I absolutely enjoy most of my weapons. Having reforged my repeaters more than any other shows I have a clear bias towards it, I do play War Pike or Chain Blades for some of the other damage type the repeaters don't have (Stagger & Wound). And frankly I've spent a lot of time on learning the various cells and armor pieces as well. I really like the variety this game offers. I have been around this game since around the time Reforged came out. But I have also never had absolute meta builds and skills. I just try to enjoy the game, but also get better setups. I enjoy this game every single day, much more than Fortnite which I have become quite burned out by, especially the cheaters. Dauntless gives me a serene feeling, a happy place. It entertains me. And I love how I can work together with absolutely random people to destroy these creatures. And I enjoy your videos as well, Trevor. I've learned a lot from your videos. Keep them coming.

I get there is no true best weapon but I really like pike, good interrupts quick and easy to use. While of course being extremely effective definitely my favorite overall. I'd say my preferred weapons are 1. pike 2. Hammer 3. Axe And while I dont like sword much I do like the hunger for the visuals.

tl;dr that's what i'm saying fr it's crazy how many things pike has in it's arsenal. only weapon in the game with THREE meta specials that all actually have unique purposes. you can have payload, the best and most consistent boop tool in the entire game that also gives you crazy burst to help time part breaks perfectly. you can have reckless leap to instantly start a fight off with a wound, breaking into aetherrush and immediately activating savagery, the highest damage bonus in the entire game, while also dealing a ridiculous amount of damage (the 3rd highest attack damage in the game with munitions amplifier iirc). or you can just have an insane crit aura that makes you do a bajillion dps and buffs your whole team. also worth noting how fast pike's full potential comes online. Hammer has to do a full combo to get empowered shells, Strikers has to do Tempest Form + Karma Breaker, Axe has to charge determination metre, Repeaters players are slowed down by the immense shame of being Repeaters players, but Warpike just comes out the gate swinging. Even before you get any special metre pike's dps is already nuts, despite it being a slashing type weapon it very often gets staggers faster than both of the blunt damage weapons.

So the problem is I like ather strikers I can't spell that but I also like sword but it doesn't do as much damage and I also like war pike but when I use the x x x x y hold or □□□□◇ hold it just feels bad and the Y or ◇ feels weird and slow. HELP

Here's one thing to remember as well. You may have 2 weapons you like the most but reforging all the weapons to 10 will give them a significant boost. My favorite weapons rn are sword, and strikers. I'll probably take a break after I do my last reforge on hammer because the warpike is the last weapon I need to get to reforge 10 and strikers, and sword don't capitalize on wounding but rather stagger damage which is why I need hammer at 10 because each node gives me an extra 3% stagger damage. The shock sword was already amazing to me before I decided to reforge every weapon, I can't wait to see it after I get the hammer done.

Got into an argument about Twin Suns being really bad. Repeaters got buffed quite a bit and despite Twin Suns being still the worst repeaters out of all of them, it can still obliterate behemoths depending on what build you're using.

I like repeaters and axe. seeing repeaters get played improperly by other slayers is hilarious 😂 they are literally useless when not reloading near the behemoth. if i had better aim I would use the marksmen chamber but idk i like the one that pushes the slayer back the most, and obviously the captains grip is the best as it gives a team wide buff 😊 And the axe is so satisfying to get an interrupt even tho the sword is better at it, i love the greatsword in monster hunter so that probably why i like it so much

I *love* my repeaters. Made myself a build just for wound damage and totally love using it on Frost escalations. Twin Suns also which are totally crit based. I used to hate the hammer for the longest time because it just being so slow, but I learned how to use it to for instance interrupt behemots with one shot. And I have a build that helps make the hammer faster when you break parts. I've seen my hammer swing really fast during some escalations (I play mostly escalations). I really appreciate all of what this game offers.

The trials mod for repeaters to reduce skills by 4s helps dramatically keeping up or even getting another in case of missing quickly specially when paired with atk spd!

Repeaters are for sure the best weapon. The thing about them is that there is no combo finisher that holds the majority of the damage. With a weapon like pike or ax, critting on the first hit or two, is not nearly as important as critting on the combo finisher. This adds rng, and also lowers the maximum amount of dps bc critting of the first few hits lead to minimal extra damage. repeaters, however, any shot at any time can crit for a massive damage boost, and if you crit on all your shots holy mama the damage.

I don't know what this game is or why I watched almost half of this video but as someone who played a bunch of MMORPGs, ARPGs and other games competitively, I can tell you right now that no game, ever, is 100% balanced between characters/heroes/weapons/gear... There IS ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS a build/weapon/hero or whatever else, that does the most damage in the game compared to others. ALWAYS. If someone says there isn't, just stop talking to the person or close the video and look elsewhere for the answer, preferably asking (actual) pro's in the game.

Well there noger, the weapons are not perfectly balanced, two of them are dogshit. And the 5 that are balanced aren’t always perfectly balanced. The sword can be the absolute best on some of the fights, but can be complete trash on others. Same with the hammer, some behemoths are too mobile for it to be the best. You always need a war pike (spear) to get peak damage in squads, and it can be rather competent in solos as well. Strikers (fists) were the og absolutely broken weapon, but they’ve been nerfed to the point where they aren’t always the best, but they’re very consistent about their placement at the top. And the repeaters (guns) are arguably that one best overall weapon in the game currently, but again, on some fights they are not the absolute best compared to the other weapons. One of the reasons for that is they are unable to stagger or interrupt behemoth attacks naturally. The game has as close to true weapon balance as you can get. (And for the record, I am an “actual” pro. I’ve been making content on it as my job for 2 years, nearing 5,000 hours of game time. There is a competitive mode, being a weekly speedrun contest, which I’ve been top 5 in several times, with 5 different weapons. Think I know what I’m talking about :))
