I first heard of this anime from HappyConsoleGamer and will watch it very soon. I’m a total anime noob and have only seen Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Street Fighter II The Animated Movie and some very early Miyazaki.

You may be interested in This is Otakudom. You can find it on Scott Melzer's KZbin channel. It is a different sort of thing because it is not original animation but it is a mockumentary about otaku.

@@AnimeArchaeology It's not an anime, it's a live action series. It's based on the real story of an aspiring mangaka in the early 80's, who met Hideaki Anno and other future Gainax members at his university. You can watch it legally for free on viki.com
