You can’t compare the skillls of F1 to rally, it’s like comparing a marathon to ice skating, the skills are not that transferable. The only exception I can think of is Sebastien Loeb’s awesome drive in the Pescarolo at Le Mans, but that was 15 years ago. You could argue Fernando Alonso had a good run in Dakar, but he was slower than the other drivers in the same car.

I’m not going to say a cartain motorsport is harder or more important than another, each category has its own challenges. Rally drivers don’t experience the same speeds and G Forces that F1 drivers do, but they fling high-powered hatchbacks through forests on narrow bumpy trails with ditches and trees instead of gravel traps and tyre walls. That’s gotta be worth some respect.

my cousin once was in the same high school with Sean Gelael in Indonesia. The fact is, it was never his passion to be a racer. Sure he liked fast cars, but his main interest is in cooking and music. But, his father being the owner of the biggest franchise of KFC, forced him to go racing so that he can have an excuse to find a team to sponsor with KFC Indonesia. All pretty sad really. He wasn’t happy with his life, but in Indonesia it’s kind of taboo to go against parent’s wishes. And so here we are. Even if he does become world champion, he wouldn’t be thrilled with it.

Literal *BRUH* moment for Indonesian motorsport. As much as I support him (well most of it is because of the obligatory nationality bias), at least Haryanto was actually good and hard working enough to get his recognition and support from the people espacially from my country considering that it is huge on motorcycle racing and we've never really pay attention to single seaters. This guy just barged out of nowhere without anyone in my country and anywhere else knowing him and after Haryanto's departure, he suddenly become our only (hopeless) hope at single seaters. Not seen in this video: the amount of money his dad spent to make sure that Indonesian medias always hype him every race weekend as if he's the second Rio Haryanto. The media coverage is always positive even if he's 18th or something. Also, we had free to air F2 coverage for some time, which is a big yeay. However, when it is clear that Sean is always somewhere in the back almost all season long, the free to air coverage stopped. Back in the Rio Haryanto era, we did not have that - Haryanto's dad couldn't afford such thing, or decided that the money is better spent elsewhere and let the results speak for themselves.

U know what's frustrating? Rio Haryanto has the skills, but not enough money sadly. Sean Gelael doesn't have the same skill as Haryanto, but has all the money in the world. When Rio was racing in F1, people in Indonesia booed him for being at the backmarker, not knowing that F1 competitors does not have equal machineries. This was also one of the reason the state-owned oil company, Pertamina, decided to pull the plug. Now we have this guy with KFC scattered around the car and Pertamina logos everywhere, basically camping at the series. It's amazing to think that his dad funded an entire series for everyone (it was European F3 I think, you can see the "Jagonya Ayam" logo everywhere)

Just my personal thoughts (might be controversial): I think Gelael isn't that bad in terms of pace and when he has a good day, he is atleast able to match his teammate. But honestly, he isn't F1 worthy but he might be solid for the WEC or something. Or he follows his father's steps and starts a full time career in rallying.

Yeah, he's obviously not Lord Raghunathan or Samaia. He's a solid midfield driver (for F2 lol) both in terms of qualifying and in the race and pick up points occasionally here and there just like how Stroll is (before the Tracing Point era of 2020 that is). He has also shown notable improvement over the last *FIVE* years (I still remember him as the person qualified 22nd at Haryanto's last F2 race in Abu Dhabi and getting absolutely smashed in the first lap by a gaggle of cars). But his time at F2 is obviously over and he'll be better searching for other opportunities out there and make a mark for himself.

Although Haryanto was pretty poor at F1, he was racing for Manor and that car was terrible and Haryanto had real pace. But Gelael is the exact opposite, he had the cars like Campos, Prema, and now Dams but he didnt have the pace. To add to this, never forget that he passed 10 cars under a Safety Car to deliberately crash someone else out of the race. He also made an utter fool of himself on social media, multiple times might I add, and even potentially assaulted an engineer. Gelael may not be a good driver, but holy shit, I'd rather see him pratting about in a Williams at the back of the grid 8 seconds off the pace, than to ever, *ever* see Ticktum's helmet in an F1 car.

If he wants to get super licence points to go into F1 he should switch to WEC (which he would absolutely be better at considering his past record with sports car racing) and see if he can get signed on as a test driver for a team that really needs money like Williams, Haas or Alfa (Alfa would probably be the easiest one thanks to his relationship with Giovinazzi). He meets the criteria for a free practice licence (either 6 races in F2 or 25 super licence points within the last 3 years) so he could take part in FP1s like he did with Toro Rosso and if he did well routinely in WEC for a couple of seasons he would actually be able to gain enough super licence points to qualify to race in F1.

Open wheel series is not Gelael's habitat. His real place is in endurance series like ALMS and WEC. Well, you can see this year, Gelael has won the 3rd place in WEC standings and 2nd place at Le Mans. And he did it in his 1st year in WEC.

Another thing that bothers me is the use of bright yellow with the red KFC logo which is very clearly visible on the car. KFC in Indonesia has red, white and black and miraculously they chose a very ugly flashy yellow for their cars and even changed the basic color of the KFC Indonesia logo which that's originally black to bright red for the car. They can apply a mix of red, black or white, with a few streaks of yellow if they really want yellow. His father is very rich considering how successful the KFC franchise was in Indonesia before the pandemic (even though he is not yet among the top 5 richest people in Indonesia), but I think his father still prioritizes business continuity over making good car designs (quite funny because basically he is the one who put Sean in F2). Rather than KFC, it's more like cluckin bell.

My mom is Indonesian, I follow development of racing in Indonesia. Rio Haryanto, his senior is so much better than him but lack of funding. Rio was Marussia F1 driver for half season. Like Lance stroll of Canada who drove F2 and now is F1 driver, Sean is strong enough to get seat at Formula 2 thank to his father's funding, but driving skill just at average level. Ricardo Gelael, Sean's father, is minority KFC shareholder, and one of the biggest KFC partners in Asia. So this video is 95 percent correct
