Very nice fly. Premier angling and his owner Pat they are top qality. On my first ever visit in the shop I got cdl cape for free. Unreal. I got many different capes and feathers there over the years and qality is always amazing. Actually I must get more CDC :) 😊🍀👍

I used to raise chickens for food, and I can tell you that most who raise birds feed them a bagged mix of foods that do not contain nearly enough nutrients for the proper growth of eggs, and even feathers. I bet that is the same situation one might find if they examined the diet between wild and domestic ducks.

The cdc in Europe seems better also. It's like the mallard shoulder feathers from Cookshill. Love their products. One thing I would love is to see you tie a Dom-bugger. It's a good wooly-bugger variant if you could call it that. And it is also verry productive. Have a great day mr. McPhail.

@@DavieMcPhail hi Davey. The premier angling CDC outstanding! Very full feathers indeed. I also risked $50 and ordered several small bags of CDC off of Alibaba. My order was started on February 11 and it arrived just today… 3 March. It’s not select but it’s OK. They had packaged the feathers extraordinarily well! I was very pleased with that whole transaction as well.

The difference between the natural and the domesticated CDC is remarkable. It seems almost opposite to what has happened with the development of genetically bred chickens like those of Whiting or Hoffman. Is it because duck breeders aren’t focused on improving feathers for the fly tying market? Are you aware of anyone trying it?

Hi @FlyTyer1948, The domestic duck feathers I have came from China so the ducks are bred for their meat rather than their feathers as most ducks will be used before they have their adult feathers so this will be the reason for the sparse feathers.. All the very best Davie

Domestic ducks can be colorless or even bred by species. I have mallard wings and blue winged teal wings from pen raised farms and the CDC like feathers are denser if not as buoyant as rump cdc…

I wonder if any strain of domestic duck is bred for quality of feathers or CDC, as Whiting and others breed birds specifically for long and dense feathers for tying? If not, someone might look into it.

Hi Trevor, I just checked and it looks like he charges a flat rate of 5 euros to post small items although you will have to contact him or put your items in the basket and it will calculate the cost as it needs the weight too.. All the very best Davie
