Who are the people of Central Asia? Today, we're going to take a look at the people and genetics of the region of Central Asia, mostly the Central Asian Turkic peoples.
Central Asia is a very noteworthy region, seeing how it was one of the first instances on the planet of a major genetic shift in a human population since antiquity, and the former indigenous inhabitants of the region are not well known about outside of the region.
Let me know your thoughts on the region of Central Asia, and the people that inhabit it! Thanks! Btw guys, I've decided that I'm really gonna be working to get to everyone's requests, so I'll be releasing a video once every 2 days, instead of once a week. Thanks for all the support guys!

Nice presentation, but I have a question. Isn't it true that the Turkic people (who were mixed but most likely originally Asian/Mongoloid predominantly) were already in the central Asian region even before Ghenghiz khan unified the Turks under his Mongol nation. If it is so then we can't say that the Central Asian gene changed because of Mongol invasion exclusively, they did contribute though. I may be wrong though.

You have a lack of knowledge about the ancident History of them like the mongolians was described as a turkic tribe in the 8. Century from the chinese Tang Dynasty, And all of them lived the altaic lifestyle which was the stronger one rules and they were allready mixed each other before the great mongolian conquest. Do you know how many times they fight each other like the huns fighted the scythians / Alans then the Avars take over the huns then the Avars lost against the ogurs / ungarians then the ogurs lost against the khazars then the khazars lost against the kipcak /kumans and then everybody lost against the mongolian Army, How do you think the mongolian Army could always keep going cause the turkic people accepted their Leadership because they do what every turcic khan would do. Also the blonde turkic people they are not mixed with russian no they were alredy blond over 2000 Years like they mentiond in the Legacy of oguz Khan who had a turkic blonde wife who probably lived 250 b.c.

I like the way how you share your knowledge of different ethnicitis with your audience, and am amazed by how you have got so much knowledge. I am from China. I have a Muslim friend in China who belongs to one "minority" ethnic group call "Sa La", their ancestors were from Uzbekistan, they speak a language(only spoken language without written form), which according to him is very close to the language of Uzbekistan, and similar to Uygur language. I am also interested in the Donggan people mentioned in your video who left in China in Qing Dynasty, who speak a Chinese northern dialect very close to Mandarin. And also, when I talked to a Korea , he told me that Korean is very close to Turkish language in structure and grammar of language. Isn't it amazing to be able to study how human migrated and evolved by the evolution of language, culture, religion, DNA,etc.

He said how to pronounce it correctly in English, but that is indeed pretty dumb, it's better to pronounce how the people themselves pronounce it, just like with Iran, even if in English it's pronounced "ai ran" I'll still pronounce it Iran because that's how Iranians do it.

Infact we have a lake called 'khirgas' were the Kyrgyz settled for awhile.

while you're focusing on the ending "Stan", I'll recommend you to consider countries(states) that end on "Land". For example, England, Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, Netherlands, Holland (within Netherlands), Switzerland, Finland, Poland, and Germany is actually Deutschland. So it's not only the people of Central Asia who have «poor imagination». And if you're using the term "Stans", go ahead and name european countries above as "Lands" in the first place.

Great video. I am a Crimean Turk ( Turkish Republic citizen) I have. black hair black very slanted eyes, pale skin and high cheekbones. People ask me a lot if I am asian . I was born with a birth mark on my back which disappeared when I turned 1 year old. A very wise Crimean doctor told that it is the "Mogul Tamga", a genetic mark that occurs around every 7 generations. My father had his Y-DNA haplo-group tested and it turns out that he belongs to the R1 group, a very ancient ( around 30-40 thousand year old) and large genetic group that started of in Altaic lands and stretched towards northern Blacksea.

@Nağme Candoğan/ Good girl, I believe you have Asian genes. Actually Crimean Turks are Crimean Tatars. Turkic is a group of people who speak Turkic, but not an ethnic. The word Turkic was given by ancient China to classify the people living in the banding area of Central Asia, Mongol, Siberia and Northeast China, who speak Turkic languages. The real ethnic are mainly Turk, Mongol and Tatar. Yet, many Turkic spoken Slavs and other ethnics also lived there for long. The original Tatar has his father's Y-DNA haplogroup marker N. Yet for those their father's marker are not N but they have East Asian look, it means that their mother's fathers or grand-grand....fathers may carried N marker. Or, their father's mother's fathers or grand, grand.....fathers carried N marker. If someone carry marker N, he or she is the descendant of an aboriginal of Northeast China or Siberia, the first group of people entering that area. The today Kazan and Crimean Tatars have genes 30% of R1 (Slav and Aryan), 25% of N (Tatar), 12% I (Balkan Slav), 10% J (Turk/Jew), 10% G (Middle Eastern), 6% E (Greece), 4% Q (Central Asian), 3% C (Mongol). People carrying N, C or Q, are East Asian Look. The Siberian Yakuts carry almost 100% in total of N+C+Q. You may check their appearance on KZbin.

Some extra facts: Afghanistan before the Soviet invasion used to refer itself as the “Heart of Asia.” Turkestan is the name of the Central and Northwestern portions of Afghanistan and was labeled as such by the British during the Great Game. A large contingent of Afghan soldiers from Abdur Rahman Khan’s army settled in Dushanbe in Tajikistan. It is known the Pashtuns are an amalgam of many Indo-Iranian, Indo Aryan, and even Turkic groups. The Ghilzai (2nd largest Afghan tribe) were known as the Khalaj were Turkified Iranian Huns. They converted to Islam under the reign of Alptegin and Sebuktegin (aka Mahmud of Ghazni). And the conqueror and founding father of Afghanistan’s royal house, Ahmad Shah Durrani, took a Qizilbashi Turkic wife who’s descendants became the later rulers.

Stalin deported about 400.000 Germans from Volga region in Russia to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in September 1941. Aslo Tatars from Crimea, Chechens and other people from Caucasus and Koreans were also deported to Kazakhstan and other neighboring republics. About 1000000 people were evacuated from European parts of USSR to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan during WWII. Aslo after WWII various large scale agricultural and industrial projects brought in a significant number of people from Russia, Ukraine.

Turkic peoples did not "fill the gap" after the Mongol Invasion, they were already in Central Asia (Oghuz, Kipchak, Karluk etc.) when the Mongols invaded the region. They did not come from "Northeast Asia" after the Mongol Invasion. The most likely proto-Turkic urheimat is the region near the Altai mountains. Your videos are cringe material.

I did a tour of the Silk Road in 2004 and passed through the central Asian republics. Just prior, I had hosted a Kyrgyz exchange student. I found his stories of growing up attending an 'international school' with students of all central Asian ethnicities to be most interesting. He also related how it was flying through Istanbul, where he was surprised to be able to understand a fair amount of the local chat. Samarkand, Bukhara, and Issyk Kul were all stupendous. Crossing the Tian Shan in a former Soviet Red Army logistics vehicle was a huge kick, particularly visiting the Tash Rabat caravanasai. Your video has reinforced each and every thing I have learned along the way...Also, back then, I still has a red beard and I was something of an attraction for the locals to have their picture taken with me.....like I was some kind of lucky charm.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge about human races and ethnicities. Growing up in Mexico, race and ethnicity was of no consequence to me. However, after immigrating to the US as a teenager, I was strongly affected by racism and the tendencies of ethnic groups to form communities. This made me become interested in the origin of race, skin pigmentation, ethnic backgrounds, etc. This field is actually fascinating. As a typical mixed race mexican, I think I have an interesting ancestry; native american, european, and african mostly but a bit of middle eastern as well. My last name originated in Spain and used by sephardic jews who had to convert to catholicism and adopt a spanish name (They had to make up new names for they could not adopt typical spanish names)..

You stated that Mongols overran Central Asia, and then Turkic peoples entered the area. Totally false. The Turkic Tribes had already made Central Asia their lands, hundreds of years before the Mongols invaded Central Asia. Everyone knows this, look it up. So, do your research well and don't make up things and give it out to people as if you know the truth.

hi masaman! it's a very good intro attempt in grading the central Asian groups. You have omitted a few groups and I think with nomadic and semi-nomadic people's in general, especially as diversely-complex group of Central-Asian Turkic peoples, the history of migration would provide a better structure. For expample, the statement of Mongol admixture in Turkic nations is a true statement. Yet the statement of Mongols being the originators of East Asian phenotype in turkic-speaking peoples is misleading: the Mongoloid phenotype has been discovered even in Scythian/Sakae burials, with an increasing prevalence throughput the ages way before the 13th century and Gengisid conquests. I think if you look out for those small points, the channel's followers will have less misconceptions about your approach to anthropological and geo-social presentations. Otherwise it is very informative, thank you for putting in the time and effort for all your vids!

But ever since the formation of modern day turkey there had been a confusion. To avoid this confusion we should use the term Turkish exclusively for people of Turkey. And Turks and Turkic people for the whole group(uzbeks, kyrghyz etc) in which turkish people would be a part of.

Early/original Turkic people were East asians genetically/racially and ofc in appearance (phenotype), they originated in present day east Asian countries viz west-central china/mongolia/southern siberia (altaic mountains). Turkish (homeland of Turkic) people do have a general disagreement for the origin of Turkic people in East Asia and they believe in origin being in central Asia according to them and turkic people weren't east Asian looking according to them but that's not factually true . It's true early & mediaeval Turkic people established great empires and confederations in central Asia and lived there for millennia/centuries but intermixing with indo Europeans population living there before them but their origin is not in central Asia but in East Asia 100%. Although many Turkish people disagree

They havie only marginal differences with kyrghiz people. Turkmens, Uzbeks, Uighurs have more pronounced middle-eastern genes with a varying degree of DNA admixtures from northeast asian people (15-30%).

I find the Turkic People of Central Asia to be some of the most interesting because of the their nomadic nature and history. From the adriatic sea till the chinese wall , you can communicate in Turkish. I m from Turkey . Even tough there are many different dialects, we can understand eachother perfectly. Even in non turkish countries like Iran or Afghanistan , there are around 50 million turks. big countries like China , Russia or even the usa like to separate us by using different names because they are afraid for a big turkish unification. That is a scary thought for many countries. A united warrior nation with a population roughly 250 million population is a nightmare for Russia and China. We are all descendants of the Gokturks.

I would like to inform Kazakh tribe, who is escaping stayed in Mongolia for long time. Mongolians saved them and agreed to stay in our land. But they are only 1 tribe. Mongolian and Kazakh never mixed for long time. Ancients are prohibied to mix strongly. Their religion is muslim but our Mongolian religion is budda. When some of the turkic nation saw kazakh people who are staying in Mongolia they misunderstood . They are still live in our country. We know each other very well but never mix.

Hey Masaman! Have you ever read “The Races of Mankind, Their Origins and Migrations” by Calvin Kephart, written in 1960? I found it a fascinating read. It’s starting premise is that the 3 races (he describes as Indafricans, Turanians and Aryans, both brown and white) split off from their primordial common ancestor in Southeast Asia in areas bordering the Bay of Bengal. Kephart makes the case that white Aryans evolved in primitive times in the mountains of western Tibet. These people eventually migrated to the areas in Central Asia and then to Europe. He also describes the origins of the Sumerians and their Turanian origins. Further he talks about the Indafricans and how they came to inhabit Africa, Southern Asia and as far as Australia and the Pacific Islands. The book is very detailed and has to be read over and over (at least for me). I am not an expert in this field but having read this book it has opened my eyes to much of what we see today in the world. Hope to hear your thoughts about this book.

The early Turkic people (proto Turks) originated in northern China and Manchuria. They are linked to the Xinglongwa culture and after the decline they adopted a nomadic lifestyle and started their migration to the west. The proto Turks are Mongoloid and closely related to other Northeast Asians, such as Koreans, Chinese, Mongolians and Tungusic tribes.
