before anyone judges, i have a set of molars that didn't form right because i was really sick when i was little, and chunks started breaking off almost immediately when they grew in, and getting those filled and then dealing with the fillings needing to be replaced over and over is the cause of almost all of my fillings.

I'm not siding anyone but I'm still a student and we learn this new classification to diagnose caries. It's not widely used just yet since it's quite new and this "shadow" is included in it. I went to my local dentist the other day and asked to take a look at my tooth since I was sure it's caries despite she claimed she doesn't know what it is. Upon request, she drilled and yes, it was caries. Not all shadows meant caries though. That's why it's quite tricky without additional information like from x-rays.

From age 12 til, say, 17, I underwent around 30 fiilings in my mouth. (No floride water then, few toothpaste choices, no knowledge of floss, etc.) Needless to say, the dental office wasn't my happy place. All that dental work held up quite well til my late 50s. That's when the teeth with large fillings began to crack, such that I've had several root canals and crowns as well as 2 teeth simply pulled. Now at age 72, some of those crowns need replacing. Yikes! Yes, I easily have a $200,000 mouth, but I don't regret doing what was necessary. Moral of the story: take care of your teeth! 🦷😁

Were you able to see the cavity in an x-ray? In the video, it was mentioned it was a "medium" decay so I am curious if it was seen in the x-ray.
@HCRS952 жыл бұрын
You would likely be able to spot this on an x-Ray, it could easily be missed with a visual exam alone, so dentists take routine X-rays of back teeth between 6months-3 years depending on your risk of decay, and these sorts of cavities will get picked up that way

Is your diet high in sugar with frequent snacking? Your oral habit sounds great, so it's a bummer to hear you suffer from frequent tooth decay. It might be caused by an improper diet. Or, your teeth might be genetically less mineralised or irregularly formed making them susceptible to tooth decay. Did your dentist say anything about it to you?

As a general rule oral hygiene will keep your gums healthy, and sugar causes decay. If you never ate any sugar again and never brushed your teeth again you wouldn’t get any more decay, you’d have horrible gums very quickly though. The fluoride in toothpaste will harden teeth and help prevent decay, but the biggest thing you can do is reduce the amount of NME sugars in your diet- fizzy/acidic drinks, sweets, chocolate, sugars/syrups added to drinks/cereals

@@SamPedroCactus I'm a dentist, an expert in teeth and the oral cavity. I am not ignorantly commenting. I can show you many, many research articles saying that you absolutely CANNOT remineralize dentin. You can create secondary or tertiary dentin that may seem like you are remineralizing, but in fact you are not. You are actually creating new dentin in regards to stimulus. Who are you saying that Xylitol and "nano appetite" toothpaste will do anything? You have no clue what you're talking about.
@SamPedroCactus2 жыл бұрын
@@jon2141 No wonder you don't know sh*t, your a dentist. My dentist could not believe it either. He was amazed and asked me to write down everything I had done. Dentists don't seem to know anything about oral care or remineralization (maybe because the ADA is suppressing information?) Xylitol helps mouth PH (below 5.5 leads to demineralization) and hydroxyapatite is the primary makeup of dentin and enamel. Makes perfect senes. You probably still recommend fluoride use even though there is no scientific evidence supporting its effectiveness. There are many documented cases with pictures and x-ryas as well as books that show large remineralized cavities. I had three large cavities (one I was told needed to be extracted). I have a hole that will remain in the large one but the surfaces are all remineralized. People like you are withholding info that might help someone avoid a surgical procedure. @ Dear Jane. That decay extends pretty far beyond the enamel in into the dentin so it’s a little late for demineralization. No enamel is removed for the placement of sealants so please explain how enamel is damaged

@@SamPedroCactus Wrong again. A cavity cannot be saved through xylitol and hydrozyappetite toothpaste. I tried that on an interproximal cavity, with daily waterpik and flossing, and SDF and it progressed to a root abscess. I could have saved that tooth had I gotten the filling from the getgo. Small spots on the enamel might be able to be filled in with, but NOT after it goes through the enamel.
@SamPedroCactus2 жыл бұрын
@@inchristalone25 Sounds like you don't have a good understanding of what you are talking about. Xylitol is a Ph buffer and has notting to do with remineralization. There is plenty of documentation of cavities below the enamel being remineralized.

@@SamPedroCactus With xylitol and toothpaste? Show me the data, not Rami Nagel's book. Weston Price was able to remineralize with good diet. But if good diet isn't practiced there would be no amount of xyltiol or toothpaste that will prevent a cavity that goes beyond the enamel to continue progressing. Like I said I was doing, dairy, butter, liver, beef, waterpik, good toothpaste, xylitol gum, and still had decay that kept getting worse because it went beyond the enamel.
