@@henrytep8884they are simply called men. Men should be begging for Chinese women to marry them, if they want a wife, not calling 30 years old women "left over". It’s so easy for people to decide what age OTHERS should get married lol. Old people say women should bear child before 25 but if the wife is not bringing any income because she is carrying a child since 20 years old these same old people would say the wives are useless and should take care of every need of her husband as her husband is earning money.theres no right or wrong just live your life the way you want

They are deemed leftovers because they are no longer ideal mates if the guy wants to have children. At that age, it is more likely for the girl to find a life partner rather than to start a family. You need to study more about human biology, especially on the risk of conceiving a child after 35 for females. Apart from increasing chances of the child having genetic defects and down syndrome, the mother also risks higher complications during delivery.

Seriously, the "Leftover Woman" term is just as misogynistic as Japan's "Christmas Cake". It's not like marriage makes a woman's life complete or will guarantee her everlasting happiness. Society shouldn't pressure women to get married since marriage is serious business. It's about commitment. Not everyone is for marriage and there's no choice for society to accept that fact. Sadly, though, most people in society are morons.

Thinking out of the box, there is aging population problem. China still not yet in the top 10 list now thankfully due to still have traditional beliefs. Country and Society CANNOT prosper with aging population. You are right that there is no choice for society to accept fact that marriage is not for everyone but that is a SOCIETY PROBLEM.

And this is how it works: Earn good money and marry soon so you can (have to) move in with your parents into the house your husband is supposed to buy and babysit them for the rest of their lives. There is no social security in China, together you're expected to care for your child/children, parents and grandparents. Nope. Well, my parents are because they are very open minded and I've been Americanized, but to my conservative grandparents and other family members living in China, they think my PhD interfered with my marriage potential. Financial success is fine, but at end of the day, your loved ones provide you with more happiness than your job, and marriage means finding a love one that can accompany you through life but I wasted that time getting a PhD instead, lol. Fortunately I live in US and don't plan to date/live in China so there's a bit less of that mentality. I am a little intimidated by my upcoming trip back home to China tho, lol, because it will be a week of various relatives asking me why I'm not married and leftover women blah blah blah. @@laurawestenra _Well they do get a cook, nurse, maid, mother, concubine and brood-mare all rolled into one for barely more than the cost of keeping a dog alive._ WOW....what a fantastic deal! But......but.....but.........with that much to offer, why there possibly be any leftover woman who failed to secure a husband? Hmmm..........another Sherlock Holmes mystery................. _They don't have to die in childbirth_ Err.....I thought we were talking about the benefit of marriage for MEN?? Last time I checked, married or not married, men CAN'T die during childbirth. Therefore, not dying during childbirth does NOT constitute as a benefit for men. Elementary, Watson. _I'm sure there are loving, mutually fulfilling marriages between people but for the most part, worldwide, it doesn't benefit women much other than that they have a roof over their heads._ Say no more.......I feel your pain.....I really do. Were it up to me, I'll ban marriage, for it bring no benefit to women. _Usually, they feel forced into it because they aren't given sustainable career options_ Another reason to ban marriage. _Where there is true love and equality between partners I greatly support life-long marriage or partnership._ But it's too few and far between....for every 1 true love and equality partnership, there must be at least 1 million partnerships where the woman suffered horribly! Thus, we must not only ban marriage but partnership as well, can I get an amen sister? _There are awful things about being a man as well, don't get me wrong -- the possibility of having to commit violence in war, emotional suppression and loneliness, the pressure to be a wealthy or a "success"._ WRONG! Being a man carry no downside whatsoever. My grandma didn't get to go to college because of her gender, how horribly awful! Whereas my grandpa didn't get to live past 27 because he had the male privilege to go to war and got killed there, what a lucky guy! Loneliness? Men got their dogs, xbox, porn, and ultimately they got the male privilege! Ya see, I'm a slack-jawed good fer nothing lazy-ass neckbeard incel and I'm mildly retarded, to boot. But due to my male privilege, I can walk into any IRS office or bank and ask them for money. They'll call the cops or even the SWAT team on you if you're anything but a male though. _I could go on. I wish we had a more just world._ Be careful what you wish for.

Would be interesting if you do some interviews to men who prefer younger women, and how they see women around thirties that are still unmarried

Didn't feel like the interviewees had a Shanghainese accent. SH is like New York, a lot of the ppl living there don't have a native accent. Like there are a ton of ppl who live in New York w/o a New York accent.
