I was listening in on my college roommates Skype meeting with his employers. They had just switched to new hours, closing the place for 3 days a week, claiming their employers would be happier, because they would have more time at home. Well, dropping those three days (they had previously been a 12/7 store), lead to more people being scheduled the rest of the week, meaning no one was getting more than 30 hours a week. with a 32hr/wk requirement to get their fulltime benefits. During the meeting, the SALARIED manager said, and i quote, "Its just a few hours a week guy, we all had our hours reduced, just enjoy the extra time at home." The HR manager was the one to interject with "Sir, they arent salaried, they get paid by the hour. Its a difference of 700$ per week, on average, for them."

I saw a TikTok of a mom and her disabled son who had a feeding tube. She recently made a video about how since he can’t taste anything, she uses that to her advantage and feeds him old, almost expired food that she needs to “get rid of”. The comments ripped her to shreds. That’s your kid lady, not your garbage disposal.

As a college freshman who grew up below the poverty line, whose parents are still barely hovering around it, plus have very limited contact with me due to family tension, I’ve heard way too many “Oh but your parents can help” for it to be even remotely amusing anymore.

Hang in there. That’s one of the roughest parts of college, is that people just don’t get it when your parents can’t help. Mine managed to help me a lot actually. Basically made sure I ate which is an enormous deal, but any trips or activities that cost money were out of the question, and due to my constant fatigue and lack of a vehicle which has remained slightly out of reach, I couldn’t manage to get internships (because of course almost none of them paid and most mandated owning a vehicle. Shockingly enough a couple of internships in geology are paid and don’t necessarily require a vehicle, they just are like “this is a remote area so coordinate with other members if the program if you don’t own a personal vehicle.” Many which mandate a vehicle aren’t in remote locations and have little travel).

It's so frustrating to be on disability or even income support! Where I live, income support will pay you a MAX of $900 a MONTH and if you are lucky enough to have family that can loan you the rest of the money you need, then you no longer qualify for the support. It's also insulting to have politicians use what little disability supports there are to try and get more votes. It's very easy to tell when a provincial election is coming up because suddenly the amount you get goes up. This is immediately followed by some change that makes disabled people's lives harder after the party has been elected. My most recent example: old political party ties disability payments to cost of living increases (not the actual name but I don't remember the actual name) so anytime the cost of living goes up, disability payments would increase by the same amount. Old political party gets voted out and new political party immediately axes this and changes the payment date from a few days before the end of the month, to the first of every month. New political party wins latest election by the skin of their teeth. Disability payments are once more tied to cost of living increases and payment dates are moved back to a few business days before the end of the month

My parents worked in Africa for 6 years. A few years ago, one of their black African friends came to visit us from the Congo. The yuppies in our church were legitimately shocked to learn that this guy had a new iPhone, knew what internet was, had internet, had a car, knew how to drive a car, dressed nicely in new jeans and a button up shirt, and he was in no way among the wealthy elite in his country. I knew I would need my master's in Library Science to be a librarian. Mom and Dad paid for my first year at community college and a part-time job at McDonald's paid for my sophomore year. I got my BA at a four-year college so closely affiliated with my junior college that only one of my classes was argued over before being accepted. I got my MLS at a university. I knew about this young woman who worked out of a wine store, which was situated near the entrance of a supermarket. As expected, her job was to sell wine bottles and wine coolers, pretty standard stuff to passersby. During one day, when I happened to be in the area, the wine shop server was offering an Irish cream sample to a customer. The customer doesn't just say 'No thank you', like a function human being, no no. They react to this woman just doing her job as if she was part of the Salem witch trials. Because not only she have to say no, she had to make it apparent to her, and me (because I was less than 10 feet away) that not only was it a moral sin to assume that she wanted Irish cream for sampling, but that she was also a vegan. As soon as this was brought to light, my eyes dart over to glance at the wine girl's expression, then back to the customer. As the customer continues her tirade, she reaches into her shopping cart of purchased goods, and pulls out a carton of milk, but it was almond milk. (For reference, I didn't know farmers had the ability to extract milk from the mammary glands of almonds, or that almonds HAD mammary glands) But anyways, the customer presents this carton of almond milk into wine girl's line of sight and comments on it, "I prefer ALMOND MILK, because it comes from almonds, and doesn't involve harming and abusing cows." The way she said it too also gave me the impression that she believed wine girl had something to do with cows on Epstein's island. But as I looked upon wine girl's face again, I could read in her eyes that she is just screaming internally, and trying to block out the verbal sewage the customer decided to throw back in her face. After the customer finally walked away, I felt it was necessary to check in with her to make sure she was okay.

I wouldn’t call it a scam at all. It’s a date that a company can be held legally responsible for anything that goes wrong with the product’s safety concerning food spoilage or function for pharmaceutical products. For instance, hand sanitizers are still going to kill germs on contact well past their expiry, but after about a year after any binding agents or fragrances start to break down. Sunscreens will eventually start to be less effective more than a year past expiration, and similarly any binding agents and fragrances will start breaking down, making it more uncomfortable. Milk usually starts going sour around three days after the expiration date, but if you drank milk on or before the date and got sick with food poisoning, after you kept it in recommended conditions, either the market or dairy may be liable since it indicates something they did went wrong. Cheeses that don’t have mold are also not meant to have mold forming in the packaging before they’re opened if they’re less than a month out from their expiration date. Meat usually starts to rot around two days past the expiration date if not frozen.

All I wanted to do is make a comfortable living, in a world where the money seemed to be in the professions that have zero work/life balance. I’m not sorry I had the college experience, but I wonder if I really needed it. I graduated with some debt, and proceeded to get stuck working retail for 20 years. After taking care of my debts, I left that world, got my CDL, and started working for my local school district as a bus driver. I have to say , I love where I am right now. I love my job, it pays more than I’ve ever made, and the benefits are fantastic. Yes, it has its challenges, but I will gladly take my worst day of dealing with kids and parents on a bus, to my best day of working with endless Karens in retail. I was put on two medications across 3-4 months to help 'take the edge off'. Here I thought things were going good, but that same person who suggested I got help turned around and said to my other friends that I was a drug addict, behind my back. Yes, for anxiety medication, because apparently for them, anxiety isn't real. Turns out that person was gaslighting everyone, and was saying outrageous things like that on the regular, even outside of my presence.

As someone who got an appartment at 24: It was all parents. I had half the downpayment, but the main issue was actully the income rules for my country (not US). The morgage is also in my dads name. I pay all expenses. With my salary and student loans I would only have been eligible for half the morgage, despite being able to pay it all on my own. The appartments I could have afforded (if i was very lucky) were tiny studios where you had to choose between a couch and a bed. Now I have an appartment I can actually live in, have a partner move in, and even have space to comfortably have a toddler running around before I have to move.

I was going through some of my dads old stuff and there were some clothes (my dad had died 10 years earlier, these clothes were falling apart) I asked my mom if any of it had sentimental value(concert tees and things like that) she said no, I could just donate them. I told her (we would get more use out of these cutting them up and using them for towels than someone unhoused. They were gross. They ended up being tossed 🙄 it’s infuriating now lightly used things, absolutely… but don’t donate trash. That is inhumane

When gas prices were really high years ago a co-worker said I should get a car that gets better mileage than my truck. My truck is paid for and insurance is low. Even if a car gets 32 mpg insurance alone makes it cheaper to keep my truck even if the car is free.

One of my former employers paid me barely minimum wage, and the job was extremely stressful and demanding. She had the audacity to say "look, you're favorite, and I see it's getting to you. Why don't you take a few days off, go to the beach or something, and just enjoy yourself, you'll feel better." We didn't have any paid vacation days, so I asked her how that could work? She just looked like an innocent deer in the headlights, and seriously said "oh, obviously you wouldn't be paid. But your job would still be here, and you'll feel better if you go party for a few days." IF I COULD AFFORD THAT I WOULDN'T HAVE WORKED THERE!!!!

I was one of those people who was in the military, a week less than three years. One of the benefits is being able to buy a house with no money down. We did have to have maybe $1500 for miscellaneous but much easier to save that amount than a 20% down payment plus miscellaneous costs.

I'm on disability and I had to get a job because I wouldn't have been able to afford to feed myself or pay bills on just disability since rent where I live would take pretty much all of my check. 😠 I'm actually afraid to get a roommate just for the ability to move into a bigger apartment because there's a high chance of my disability being cut off and I won't be able to survive on just my paycheck. 😨

8:28, I would ask for advice from the school janitor before I ask the guidance counselor. Community/junior colleges are inexpensive, credits transfer. The first couple of years are similar if not exactly what one would be experiencing at a university. Or one could join the military and have one’s education paid for in full with a decent monthly stipend.

The worst tthing that VERY MUCH should be outlawed : "Non natural people" (Corporations and not physical individuals) owning homes of ANY kind. This is what is making housing unaffordable as shit. Sure energy costs are also a factor, as well as regulatory and admin fees, but the vast majority of homes owned for sale, often entire neigbourhoods are in a corporations hand. And since everyone needs a roof over their head if they want to live, not just exist. They can charge whatever the fuck they want , cause people sure as hell cant quickly make a downpayment for construction with todays wages being stagnant while everything had a 6x increase AND they have the money to not need to sell and can just sit on their property costs People were able to buy homes becasue they relatively made 6x more . Imagine minimum wage being 6-8k not ~1k a month while everything else stays the same

I was supposed to rent an apartment with a friend. She was paying way less, 400 of 1200 and got upset she didn’t have a bedroom or a closet. When I asked her if she was comfortable contributing more to increase our budget… she told me to ask my parents. She worked part time and went to school. I worked full time and my parents did not help me with anything towards my own expenses besides some minor furniture. It was insane she even said that. We’re no longer friends anymore for obvious reasons. Her backing out last minute and then getting room mates and paying 800 each didn’t even bother me. I could afford it. It was just the principal. Wasnt even why I stopped talking to her in the end. I miss her sometimes but that comment always stops me from reaching back out 😕

I mean renting IS a waste of money... But that doesn't make the guys comment any less out of touch, and sometimes renting is a better option than buying a falling apart house or trailer home that you still have to rent land for. Everyone should strive to buy over rent when they can, but WHEN you can is very situational.

15 minutes of sunlight is good for *almost* anyone. But there’s got to be somebody it’s not good for. I’m literally prescribed 20 minutes of sunlight without SPF every day possible and a high amount of vitamin D supplement every day I don’t get that. But any longer than 20 minutes in the summer and I need pretty high SPF because I tend to burn after 30 minutes. At one point I didn’t burn at all somehow.

Got one, grandma questioned me why I'm not married. Gee maybe it's because inflation has doubled the cost of food in the past decade and I cannot afford to feed two people since I only got a 5% raise in the same time, perhaps it's because divorce rates have never been higher and it's a fool's errand in this sociopolitical climate, or even because noone I date wants to put up with her nicotine nagging because she cannot leave anyone alone for more than 12 hours while being a compulsive smoker.

My best friends step dad grabbed my boob after continuously telling him no. Fast forward, something happens having to do with that situation and I stop talking to her. Fast forward even further, I decide to try and rekindle and see if she has anything to say. She goes on a tangent about how her boss sexually harasses his employees and also has consensual sexual relationships with women in the office, she said he touches some of them inappropriately. Aside from turning a blind eye, She said “I wouldn’t want it to happen to me. I would but for the money so I can get paid”. It was no more than 3-4 months since it had happened. I haven’t talked to her since.
