I kinda feel like if they do the world revamp that’s been hinted they will find places for them. Even though the legion was defeated there’s still pockets of demons out there that may not be as much of a threat without Sargeras but warlocks can still summon new demons so there has to be some crazy demonic warlords out there to fight since the biggest power vacuum ever just opened up. As for death knights even tho the LICH king is gone necromancy will always be a thing and there’s still pockets of scourge so the ebon blade will most likely become specialized scourge hunters and possibly show up in revamped plague lands and such

Ever since Wotlk Ebon Blade has moved on to like Azeroths world police against anything they deem to evil. They do what the living cannot as they say they were involved in some things in xpacs post LK and heavily in Legion and extremely so in shadowlands. I feel both factions exist as peacekeepers for Azeroth right now. While Sargeras is imprisoned and the Legion stopped I'm pretty sure there are demons still out there who struggle for that seat of power and still may pose a threat. So if another demon threat arises, the Illidari would be a valuable asset to have. As for the Ebon Blade, their original goal was to take down Arthas when they first broke free and later to maintain stability and control when Bolvar took on the crown, but now that there is no Lich King anymore I feel they just continue on with their existance, free for the first time without a higher power trying to pull the strings from the background.

I roleplay on Argent Dawn and I have a death knight who deals with the same question of "What do I do now that the Lich King is gone?". The answer to him is very simple. He continues to hunt all manner of enemies of Azeroth, whether that is demons, Old God minions, or other things that threaten the world he lives in. Death knights aren't exaclty the type to sit down peacefully (unless you're Abu'gar the fishing death knight). Basically he'll just go on to destroy that which may threaten his still living relatives until he inevitably comes across something that overpowers him, or until he feels he's atoned for the things he did under Arthas' control. Not unlike a Slayer.

The Burning Legion still exists, but there's a power vacuum there without the top generals. Demons are still a rampant intergalactic threat and demonology Warlocks have proven how much of a pain a single demon summoner can become. Not to mention Sargeras is still alive, simply imprisoned. There's still hope for a future Demon expansion about a Sargeras-successor trying to free his progenitor, they can even give DH a third Fel-caster spec at that time as they have to go further into their demonic corruption to combat this new threat. Maybe even have a Void Lords expansion where the Void Lords are attempting to release and corrupt Sargeras and his minions to their side?

How is the Legion finished? It conquered countless worlds. Their Lord Sargeras is trapped at the Pantheon Seat of Power with Illidan. As long as Sargeras exist the Legion is far from beeing finished. If the lore would make any sense, the vast legion forces would do everything in their power to free Sargeras form his jail. But of course with these current writers nothing makes sense. The Scourge was big faction you could play in wc3, it should not be inactive for such a long time at all, while some mere minor threat level trolls made us raid and go to dungeons in almost every expansion. And instead of making sense of the story, we got Shadowlands, the most piece garbage in terms of lore i have seen in wows entire existence.

With Demon Hunters, the threat of the Legion is always present in the background. Sargeras is not exactly dead and Azeroth (not to mention Outland) still has a lot of demonic remnants that they can deal with. Death Knights are a bit more tricky, because the Scourge is a very quickly shrinking issue (at least in canon lore), but like DH, they can still have purpose in their new lives as peacekeepers. Just cause their original purpose may be smaller doesn't mean they have to stop existing or go away. DKs are very similar to the Forsaken; evil old remnants trying to make a better life for themselves.

My personal headcanon is that Demon Hunters are now hijacking Legion ships and taking the fight to other worlds that the legion went to. I don't think DK will go extinct so easily. Remember, in the Legion Campaign, the player must reform the Four Horsemen and each time, he didn't raise mindless ghouls for the job, but capable champions. So with that, you no longer need a powerful necromancer to do the job, just a good DK is required (and the desire of the deceased, to be ethical). Furthermore, in the last chapter of the campaign, Darion sacrifice itself to save everyone else and he is raised as the last Horseman. That mean DK can ress each other and still keep fighting. Logically, it's only a matter of having a corpse still in one piece. For the purpose aspect, I guess keeping necromancy at bay is a good goal. For the DH, it's more tricky. They can't ress each other and only a selected few would dare to become DH themself. Again for the purpose, overlooking demonist practice is okay. But overall, DK and DH have something in common : they dare to do anything to protect Azeroth from BIG threat. Just hear again the oath the DK took when he got his first Legendary weapon and kneel to Bolvar : "When the weak showed mercy, you did not hesitate to strike. Where the unworthy were vanquished, you have conquered..." Paladin follow the Light teaching and often show mercy. Warrior follow their honor, desire or order they received. Their hands might be stopped because of that. Death Knight get the job done with no survivor.
@maxpowers4436 Жыл бұрын
No what that means is extremely high level Dks can raise other DKs. All DKs on Azeroth not counting Guldans Dks were made by either Arthas, Bolvar or the Death lord and Lich King had the Helm of domination at the time and the Death Lord had Artifacts and the Lich Kings blessing. I dont think numbers is an issue for the Ebon blade although they lost ALOT in shadowlands im sure lorewise hopefully when they left they took alot of knowledge with them.

It was a ritual one that illidan didn't oversee all the time several dhs oversaw it as time went on it just involved summoning the demon and instructing the recruits to kill it then eat its heart and drink its blood the rest was up to the recruit aside from them being given their first tattoos. So dhs could easily keep being made and they won't die out if they have an immortal demon soul there soul would just go to the twisting nether to be reborn unless killed there or in an area drenched in the fel. And on top of all that they can see and detect all forms of magic not just fel so theyre equipped to track and hunt any form of creature in the cosmologoy thats why their illidans perfect soldiers. Legion already answered the question about DKs. DKs can offer the gift of undeath to other strong warriors but they can decline the call and choose to stay dead. The Four Horsemen DK order hall question went into this. BFA also already answered the DH question. DH can train other DH should they choose and the hunt for powerful demons hiding on Azeroth is still a thing. In BFA there was a daily about a Warlock and DH who went around hunting demons. DH job is never done. Both questions have already been answered in game.

I think that DK should become just like a Dark Paladin or something like that, make a ritual or something to become a DK, but they will fight to bring balance and order to life and death, help spirits that refuse to go to after life and fight against villains who slave souls or something like that, using the power of death to bring peace to the mortal world. Now, the DH could become something like exorcists, who fight agains demons, spirits and monsters, but also use they powers, aprisonating then in some circles, pentagrams or using chains. They could be similar to druids, have diferents forms for the diferents demons and monsters they are aprisionating, but they can't stay in that forms forever, they have a limited time, and if they pass the time, they start to get hurt and take damage. I don't know, but for me Blizzard could make a ramake in the classes just like i said, but stay with the machanics and put some new too

Death Knights unfortunately always have relevance as they are always earning their redemption and forgiveness. Demon Hunters are not yet without purpose but i would just say "lazy" as the demons in WoW lore are always in the twisting nether. And until they are destroyed in the Twisting Nether the demons can always manifest a physical form of which the demon hunters existence is crucial to preventing infiltration. Think of Demon Hunters as "Elite royal guard."

As a DH main I never understood why it’s so hard for people to understand what a DH would do after Legion. It’s an interesting question, but not a hard one. Become a wandering Monster Hunter. Join one of the many armies of Azeroth. Try and reconnect with the heritage you left behind to hunt the Legion. Try and find love, if you still want that. Try and reconcile with the demon inside of you that came as part of the ritual to become an Illidari. Delete yourself to kill that last demon. Become a pet battler I guess. There are many answers to this questions it’s not that hard to choose one and pursue it. Death Knights are a different story. I dunno what they’re supposed to do

Can't say much on Death Knights, but about Demon Hunters keep in mind that there is still the entire cosmological force and pantheon of Chaos to worry about, and the Legion are NOT that - they were led by Sargeras who recruited the Man'ari for the sole purpose of bringing ORDER to the Demons under his command, so the Burning Legion were more of a Dark Order than Chaos, and for all we know the demons who serve the Chaos Pantheon(which is now a thing according to the lore of First Ones establishing pantheons for each cosmological force) could end up to be an even bigger threat than the Legion was, so Demon Hunters may make a return when that happens, possibly opening the class up to other races

Demon hunters will probably go extinct eventually, but the Illidari as a whole will likely persist in some state. Outside of the current demon hunters, they have several allies races, Naga, Ashtongue Dranei, Shivarra, Krokuul Dranei to name the obvious ones. As well as theoretically non-demon hunter elves, though we don't see that often. They also have an entire planet/realm/Mardum under their control and are one of the few currently space-faring friendly factions, with the Sargarite keystone and the ship they have. They also have enslaved demons to some extent. They are... surprisingly powerful, considering they seem to be doing FA right now. As a demon hunter player, I'm really eager to see them re-enter the setting in a big way at some point.

Yes, both still can be created. DKs dont need to die, just like Arthas you could give them a runeblade that rips out part of their Soul and boom, you have a DK. Not to mention that other DKs have the power to create DKs, like we did in the order hall campaign. DHs simply need 3 things. 1.A demon to devour, which could be summoned by a warlock 2.Stabbing their eyes out. 3.Enough magic control to not be overwhelmed by their inner demon, which is why lorewise only elves are capable of becoming a DH.

Oh! OH! I will TELL you what the point of Death Knights in 2023 is. You're in the BG. It's WSG. You sneak into the enemy base, incapacitate their sentry, grab the flag and move it. You're not sure you're going to be able to carry the flag the whole way but you're trying to get the flag at least to your druid who is currently cooling in the GY. You're coming in hot and taking fire. The druid should be back in action and able to meet you by the time you get to your tunnel so you can pass the flag off to them. You've popped all your trinkets and heals and shields and you're getting pounded but you should be able to make it to the rendezvous with the druid. You'll probably die soon after. You're being followed the entire way by the DK on your team who is yelling "PASS! PASS ME THE FLAG! PASS! PASS!" but you know from experience what will happen if you pass the flag to the DK. You're focused on getting to the tunnel where you can pass off to the druid. The DK who is following you yelling "PASS!" is doing nothing to support your flag run. He's not defending you at all. He just keeps screaming at you to PASS!!!!!!! It looks like you're going to make it. You can see the Druid out of the corner of your eye and the vectors line up. You're going to go down in front of the tunnel but the Druid should be there for the hand off and able to take it the rest of the way. A Hunter gets in range of you and takes you down. The Druid is only seconds away from the flag. Everything is coming together and you don't release your spirit because you want to watch the Druid get the hand off. No way they can miss it because the enemy is too far behind you to get to the flag first. You didn't take the flag all the way but that's not the point of the FC anyway, if you can't carry the flag all the way carry it to someone who can. Gods' speed, Druid. I've done what I can, you take it from here. But then just before the Druid can get the flag the DK who has been following you all the way across the field screaming at you to PASS grabs the flag from your corpse and does he pass it off to the Druid? No. Does he run the flag the rest of the way to score the point? Also a hard no. What the DK does instead is grab the flag and run back to the middle of the field. The DK believes himself to be a DPS legend and what he wants to do is look bad ass getting big numbers while holding the flag. So the DK robs the Druid of the hand off and turns around and runs the flag back to the middle of the field. His undead brain is already imagining how glorious he is going to look slaughtering people in the middle of the field waving that big red flag around like it is his DPS dick. And of course he dies and we lose the flag and everything was all for nothing. The futility of war? Oh no, this was deliberate and calculated. You see Death Knights must constantly inflict suffering upon the living but they don't care who that living is. To them inflicting suffering on their own teammates is just as satisfying as it is to inflict suffering on the opposite side and oh so much easier. Flushing a flag run down the toilet because they wanted to show off big numbers is a win-win for them. Either they are the bad ass they claim they are and get to wave around that flag while slaughtering (hint: DKs always over estimate their bad-assery) or you sabotage your own team's flag run and rejoice in the suffering you inflict upon your teammates. And that's why the Pook never passes the flag to DKs. Druids? Oh I'll pass the flag to a Druid any day of the week. Druids know how to run a flag. But Death Knights, oh no no no. Never pass the flag to someone who will benefit from your suffering. As for Demon Hunters, oh boy does the Pook have some issues with them but we'll get into that some other time.

I feel like the Death Knights would be very much depresso espresso types, and they would off themselves in great numbers, and then their group as a whole would fade out completely. Demon hunters, on the other hand, are built to live on. They had a strong leader, and they were fanatically devoted to their cause. Those are the building blocks to the start of any major religion. Over time, Illidan's words would be warped into commandments for his church to follow in an effort to better oneself, and Illidan would become their Jesus figure, which they would worship and praise as a God. As for the people that they would target for recruitment. They would probably be the types of people who have hit rock bottom in life, and the church of Illidan would offer them a way to take their anger and harness it into a driving force to better themselves all in the service of their new God.

I agree that both seem to be on the road to extinction, the DKs because no Lich King and the DHs because they no longer have Illidan to oversee the ritual and the Legion isn't as big a threat as it once was. As for what they do now, I think the Death Knights are pretty much just defenders of Azeroth with a specialization with anything undead or necromancy related and the Demon Hunters? I read a comment somewhere sometime back where someone compared them to Witchers (from the Witcher universe) and I have to say that I like the idea of Demon Hunters being like Wow's version of Witchers. I didn't realize it until someone made the comparison, but they actually have A LOT in common. They were both created to kill something specific (Witchers vs. Monsters and Demon Hunters vs. Demons), they adopted a "to kill the thing you have to become the thing" philosophy, and both groups don't really have a real way to replenish their numbers anymore. Another thing they could potentially have in common is just doing what they were originally created to do, but maybe in the capacity of a bounty hunter. Say, a group of demons threaten a little town and the mayor posts a bounty on them and while adventurers could take the bounty, they wouldn't be as effective as a fully trained Demon Hunter, so in this scenario a Demon Hunter's services would be in high demand. Overall, these two classes do still have purpose and a place on Azeroth, but they are going to become a thing of the past, eventually. As you said, their original purpose and creators are gone and in the case of Death Knights, it's a pretty miserable existence although, to be fair, it's not easy being a Demon Hunter either. They don't just eat a demon, that demon becomes a part of them and it is CONSTANTLY whispering things, tormenting them, trying to entice them to going full demon and just killing everything. We see this with one of the main characters in the Illidan novel, Vandel. After he consumed a demon's heart during his ritual, he could hear its voice in his head constantly teasing and goading him. For some new recruits, the voices and the physical mutations became too much and they literally jumped off the Black Temple and killed themselves. Others gave in to the murderous voices and started killing the other recruits and had to be put down. So... Yeah. Not an easy life for an Illidari either. I agree that it would be cruel to raise someone as a Death Knight to live that miserable existence, but it would be cruel to ask someone to become a Demon Hunter as well. Not only is there a good chance you're going to die during the initial ritual, but once you do pluck your eyes out, you could either go crazy, homicidal, suicidal, or just totally lose your soul and go full demonic. It was even talked about in the book how there were many elves that went in, but few came out, so to ask someone to go through all that, with the odds stacked against them, just to fight a group that is no longer that relevant? Yeah, I don't see many people lining up to sign up.

I think i remember reading something that illiden wasn't needed for the ritual to make new demon hunter initiates just any stronger/higher ranked demon hunter and out of the 8 or 9 ones that could i believe 5 or 6 are still alive/around. So unlike DKs, DHs can recruit more it's just they have no need to currently
@CuthiePatootie Жыл бұрын
Demons were the biggest threat to the universe, in the eyes of the Illidari. So they trained to defend their home against them. If demons are no longer the biggest threat, the Illidari would train to combat whatever comes next, I imagine. Death Knights are in the same boat, at least this last generation. You don't stop being an allmighty power house just because you won a battle. There will be plenty more.

There will always be need for elite soldiers to defend Azeroth. Also, I don't see why other DHs couldn't just do the same thing Illidan did to create more DHs. It's not like Illidan is the only one who can use fel magic.

DH is a weird one, created to fight demons and the Legion, but their purpose is still the same, defeat the evils that threaten then. DK, they broke away from the lich kings grasp and like DH their purpose is to fight anything that threatens them. So, they both have purpose
@Chatterscompany2 ай бұрын
Maybe the class tie ins are crap, but what you said in the beggining, that they are now pointles when LK was defeated DKs are pointless. I disagree, it's like saying what is the point of paladins after the second war. They stopped fighting orcs and started engaging undead, then demons, then undead again, so on and so forth. I would however for sure appreciate if Blizz tied all classes just a little to the current goings on. Death knight and Demon hunter alike can mess up Old ones just as well as paladins. If not better since Paladin relies on armor and spells to not die so they will get hit by deadly giant tentacles constantly, while DHs will likely dodge, DKs can send armies of death before getting hit and both classes can get back up after literally dying which can also be advantageous
@randomdragon8245 Жыл бұрын
The only thing to do is give the classes new purpose and completely redefine them. Theoretically they could still work as is if they were able to change the way they were not only created but also how they functioned. DKs can still be used on the battlefield so I can see them working mostly as it; but DHs need to become more versatile and sustainable if they hope to not be left behind. Maybe they get a quest line where they learn to expand the use of their abilities. In gameplay it already kinda does that so all you need is just to do the same with the lore. And also can we get a void and arcane counterpart to them? Maybe finally get something like the Shadow Hunter and maybe have ourselves a Battlemage class. Or more ideally we can add specs to other classes to make the difference. Maybe some kind of flavoring system that changes how classes look but let them play the same. That would probably be a lot easier if the devs wanna try keeping the class system tight.
@darkstorm257910 ай бұрын
I doubt we'll ever get new specs for the other classes because that would be too much of a pain to balance. Though with the "flavoring system" Blizzard is sort of doing that now with the Hero Talents in War Within, granted that announcement was after this video was made.

I'm gonna say that us defeating the Legion solved a world ending threat but also created a new one. By defeating sargeras and his luitenants we've restored Disorder to its original state, without order and structure. Although no longer focused into a single army, demons could be even more dangerous now if they return to their pre-titan influence days. Powerful demons could rise and bring chaos and destruction to the universe and to Azeroth. Sargeras might be captured and The Legion might be dismantled, but demons still exist and with that said, Demon Hunters might still have a lot of work cut out for them.
@francescoporcari8597 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, but Sargeras held the demons from strucking civil wars.

i look at DK as a pest control on azeroth when there is an enemy to the planet they will go and butcher that said enemy and maybe even use hes/her flesh to make more undeads to have an bigger army, also we the Deathlord we are kinda atm going around killing lots of things on dragonisle so we are kinda raising dead races and dragons as undeads/DK.

Bro, they are still more useful than a warriors or rogues, using fel or death magic does not make them irrelevant for future threats. Its like sayinf whats the purpose of warlocks, or priest if there is no demon or undead.

DK makes sense, considering they had no choice in becoming what they became. In other words, once free from the lich king, they can make there choices based on whatever they personally believe. So them post lich king using there powers to serve a higher cause or for the sake of azeroth, horde, alliance, etc. does make sense. Demon Hunters are different. DH specifically sacrificed their lives to become what they became, and dedicated everything to stopping the legion. Now that the legion is defeated, they really have no purpose. That being said, they can also still use there powers for the sake of azeroth, horde, alliance, etc. it just wouldn't make as much sense as a dk. Essentially, what does one do once they have achieved something that they sacrificed everything for? I guess start over.

I have a question, which is not entirely connected to this, but it's about the third hero class we have. Are Dracthyrs able to breed? They were also created, and not naturally born. If they can't, then the number of Evokers are limited, and they can't be made any longer, just like Death Knights?

As per the Legion, their own home world or base of Argus was so very littlely guarded when we invaded... shit theres more of the Burning Legion out there especially with Archimonde still around or the Annihilan a.k.a. the Pit Lords who originally were the masters of the band of demons. Besides, for the Demon Hunters they can pretty much establish a whole new race from their own demonic Infusion with their own species like Felborne Sin'dorei, Felborne Kal'dorei, Felborne Shal'dorei, and Felborne Quel'dorei.

WoW has a problem, it's a game too old for it's own sake. And that's been a problem in everything. From gameplay, races, factions, PvE and PvP, classes, dungeons, game systems and lore. While with death knights and demon hunters the problem is more obvious, the other classes faces the same problem. In shadowlands, we were against literal gods in a war of cosmic proportions. Was some guy or gal with two knifes, poisons and a cheap shoting pistol really choosen as a champion when you have mages like Jaina who can raise an entire battleship from the ocean and make it fly? Or Tyrande imbued with the rage of a goddess? It really doesn't end up. We've travel to the realm of dead, defeated the legion, meet the army of light, and mages still throw frost stalactites and fireballs? Doesn't the calling to the power of fel magic feel a bit short for warlocks when you have access to the void itself? Doesn't train with the army of the light itself, and having one of his comanders as an Alliance king show anything new to the paladins? The scourge is now finding a new purpose under the benign rule of Calia Menethil, so the death knights may join her to help her and the rest of the undead to find at least a home in the world. Same with the demon hunters, they may just become elite mercenaries, still hunt demons all over the cosmos following Sargeras original quest before becoming the mad titan and all, or just see their quest as ended, and start the search for a way to healing. Imagine the amazing story of a demon hunter Night elf that find him or herself returning to Darnassus to find ir burned by the horde, and now hunting horde to avenge that the same he or she hunted demons, becoming a sort of a serial killer, finding peace in the travel to the shadowlands and now becoming a protector of the new Night Elf tree in the dragon isles, hoping for the green flight to find a way to hel him or her. Or a death knight that traveled to the shadowlands, and after all that happened decides that his or her quest is now over, and since he or she can't find the comfort of dead, swears to help this new undead to find a place in the world, becoming their sworn protector. But for that, you need to evolve the lore, the classes, and their mechanics. We are in the land of dragons, with the bronce flight exploring the limits of their temporal magics, in the home of the blue flight and the azure archives, in the company of literal dragon mages created by Neltharion himself, and seeing how flame and void become one power. It's a golden oportunity to rewrite mages to something else, the warlocks, the void elves entire... But for that Blizzard needs evolve the classes instead of leting them static. We know a WoW 2 will never happen, but we need to think how it's gona evolve WoW. Blizz can't just keep delivering new zones, 10 more lvls, a new clase or race every now and then, some dungeons and a new raid. They need to evolve the game, change even it's engine even.
