Man. I almost discarded my half full jar or coffee thinking it was molded. Thanks to my science education background, I'm quite a curious person and now I stumbled across this. Thank God and thank you for making this.

Are you still drinking it and does it taste okay? I have just tossed 2 diff jars as they seemed mouldy exactly like this.. I am sad as I definitely wasted money, but was too paranoid to let it be. Still wondering if I did the right thing. 😢

@@hiteshjain5484 Hello. Sorry for the late reply. Yes I still drink my coffee from that supposed "moulded" coffee. Taste still the same and I've never fell sick from drinking it. I also threw in silica packet (the thing that absorbs moisture) and guess what? Those white crystals that we thought was mold, had actually gone! Hahaha so yeah. It's actually just crystal that appears like mold

These may be caffeine crystals, but an old opened jar I had contained a much finer, soft, threadlike matrix that completely bound the particles into a slightly elastic mass. Under magnification, it didn't look anything like these crystals, and the contents smelled very sour and off. I wish I still had my microscopes so I could have taken an image.

Google is so bad nowadays if you try to figure out if it is mold or coffee crystals this is the only answer that makes sense and you have to find it by going into a reddit post first. Based on your video the only way to tell is by putting it under a microscope. Unfortunately the little field microscope i have doesnt have nearly enough power to see cells. Could really use a way to tell on visual inspection with the naked eye. This video almost makes me sure they are coffee crystals in my case. But would really have appreciated more b-role and camera work on the crystals within the coffee at a visual or close up level to compare. And then maybe a comparison to what aftual mold on coffee looks like.

🌟🌟🌟 Another excellent video... thank you so much. I don't drink instant coffee myself, it's disgusting (I prefer going to my local café for my caffeine shots) but I always keep a jar of instant in the cupboard for cooking (walnut and coffee cake etc) I have thrown away and have had to replace so many jars in the past, after seeing white bits in my coffee...who would have known what these strange white things were, if it wasn't for you! Fascinating videos...🌟 I love your inquisitive enthusiasm 🌟

Thank you very much for this video! I opened a military ration pack and the freeze-dried coffee included looked exactly like your coffee and I got a bit concerned that the coffee had somehow gotten moldy, which in this case would indicate a production error, Googled a bit and found your video, I'm quite relieved to find out it is of no concern. First time experiencing this from rations. What do you think the cause might be? Only thing I can think of is that these rations have been stored in a 39.2F degree environment over an extended period of time and that has caused it, or could it be the opposite, that they've been in a very warm environment? What do you think?

Look into focus stacking your microscope images or videos, it'll give you clearer images and prevent the constant autofocus. Just a suggestion. Great video This white stuff does looks a lot like hyphae from a fungus. So can't blame ya for checking what level magnification are you using here?

Hi Oliver! I have tested the 2x dslr adpter with the iris diaphragm (NDPL - 1(2x)). It works for me but it is far from perfect. The iris is pointless in it, i had the same results as you. As for the glare... I didn't experience such problem. The optics in it are good enough but the whole system takes down the resolution and it corrupts the effect of my plan objectives. For me it worked better with my stereomicroscope. The overall quality of the adapter is pretty good but could not beat a lensless adapter by any means. It worked for me well, but the cheaper peace of metal, lensless adapter is much better. The only problem with it is that my fototube is too long for it on my compound microscope and it is not parfocal. I could solve this problem by screwing out the fototube and placing the lensless adapter in its hole. My DSLR (I also have a Canon 600D) takes much better images with the lensless. I have a chinascope (Levenhuk 500T which is similar as the swift 380T, but it is built with halogen). Conclusion: It works and prafocal, so convinient. It decreases the resolution and the picture on the sides of your field of view are pretty blurry. Personally I would go for the lensless option.

Hi, I know this is a bit off topic, so I understand, if you don't want to answer that. I would like to order slides with samples on and I am not sure which ones are worthwhile. Do you have any recommendations for samples to order (I don't care which manufacturer or website)? Thanks for your videos, they helped me a lot in my first steps of microscopy :D I'm from Germany, just for records.

Get cross-sections from plants because they look pretty. Animal tissues often do not look as regular, patterns are not so nice. You can buy slide boxes with mixed slides from Amazon, but if you want to go for quality then try to get them from the Company LIEDER (a German company). They are expensive, however. Here is the catalog: www.lieder.de/files/de/K32D-SER-ww.pdf
