similarly, durring the design of the A-10 warthog. Fairchild Republic started with the GAU-8 Avenger machine gun and designed an ariplane around it.. They made several design decisions that showed the A-10 as a gun with wings, rather than a plane. A prime example was moving the central landing gear out of position to better align the gun. if you look at an A-10 on the ground, you will find that the landing gear is actually to the left while the gun is dead center.

Ok I will agree overkill. 12 seconds of ammo, then empty? Did ship carry, have ability to reload? Or was that every rd on ship? 8 degree off center aim? Is there any ship that could take 4 hits from that gun in less than 1 minute? With full shielding? Make it a 4”, maybe increase speed if practical. Reduce rate of fire?

I think you misunderstood the story. The ships is gigantic and has only 7 crew members, everything else is just ammo storage. Do you really think they would waste (on a weapons test) all that ammo at once for a demonstration?
