Those giving orders don't see the actual events, so can't fully understand why an action failed. To them, it failed because it wasn't carried out properly. When you repel one ship, you don't use the full force at your disposal. Instead, you use just the amount necessary to prove you are able to do even more if necessary. Also, you don't want to show your entire hand. When the human appeared in front of the council, he did so with a plan in mind should things go south. Fortunately, his initial plan worked, and his reserve units weren't needed. Neither was more blood shed. When you learn that your opponent can do more harm than you first thought, it's best to follow through with that which saves your people and profits you in the long run.

It would a) be nothing in comparison to what humans did to themselves; b) relatively small price in avoiding full scale war ending with probably high billions of loses and destruction of multiple habitable planets. 3. You can wage war without shooting. Spread your ideas, your culture and you can kill civilisation without killing people, shooting a single bullet and earning a mountain of cash while doing it.

oohh don't worry not everyone is cursed with such a small worldview as to miss the meaning behind "technology we deeply hope NEVER to use" some of us are cursed to be specialists in designing such things, You're either a monster without equal or quietly not making use of your strongest skillset. its harder than you'd think. for eg false vacuum bomb. never ever ever not even once. no matter how relatively easy it may or may not be. also known as a vacuum decay bomb possibly, it kind of has to remain only possible otherwise everything else promptly isn't. besides the fine admiral was even kind enough to omit the supernova guns other settings and instead brought it back to infantry combat scale, dont want to scare them too much.
@LENZ536910 ай бұрын
Your points are contradictory. Why would a defensive/preventive war be so unacceptable to the in universe humans; if they have "a massive technological advantage"? Jefferson allowed a massacre to happen on his watch...'turn the other cheek' is not a rational response. Either Jefferson/humans are Jesus now (wiling to suffer for the alien's sins) and won't ever use force (yet they have researched and built all that terrible weaponry), Or Jefferson is just incompetent and there is no accountability for his failure. Or (for whatever reason) nobody cared about all the people Jefferson let get killed. That (Sun Tzu?) (mis)quote is about PREVENTING war/battle by achieving your goals another way -BEFORE combat, it's not about 'turning the other cheek'. 1 dude changing the apparent core beliefs/principles of an installer people with a couple conversations and technological 'magic tricks' is frankly ridiculous; it's a simplistic morality/biblical play in scifi clothing. "The hero has cornered the vicious monster. It's taken out everyone who has confronted it thus far, and the hero seems like no exception. That's when the hero, rather than drawing a sword, pulls out his cue cards. He begins a speech about the good things in life, the wonders of good, how Humans Are Special and the monster should respect that, and that the monster should know better than just give into his evil nature, etc. " -'Talking the Monster to Death' tvtropes org

For the admiral, sure, his job is to secure victory and accepting some type of terms of surrender is reasonable: though that is not what happened here. For the people? Accepting peace after pointless and unprovoked slaughter is highly doubtful. History tells the tale, once peace is gone, it is gone until we are crushed or feel satisfied with our revenge. It's doubtful an admiral would have the authority to negotiate on his own after such an attack anyway.

My favorite stories though, are the ones where we are technologically behind the other species (at the start) but all of the space aliens have bodies like glass. Basically we're Superman. There was a particularly interesting one where the human was accused of using some kind of illegal combat steroid, and he had to explain that our bodies NATURALLY produce adrenaline. Everybody freaked the hell out because we were already functionally _bulletproof dwarfs._ 😂 They had already seen him shrug off kinetic rounds with no more damage than if somebody had lobbed baseballs at him. He had a black eye and a cracked rib after taking a point-blank shot to the chest, and that was his worst injury. He had then (while high on the aforementioned adrenaline) proceeded to rip an arm off of the cannibalistic space Pirate crab and beat him to death with his own claw. Turns out that most other spacefairing species evolved in low gravity. So their handheld weapons had to be designed with zero recoil, otherwise they would shatter the arm of the person firing it. And it didn't take much firepower to explode a person whose bones are basically glass, so all but one species was utterly unprepared for a critter who evolved on a planet that had gravity that was lethal for 90% of species to even land on. 😂 - The Deathworlders

Good story, but i think they kinda softball the ending. I f they knew we had supernova guns and such they would/should never have attempted an invasion in the first place. OTOH if they were clueless to our actual strength then they likely would required much more convincing. I think a better, slightly twist ending, would have been to have Jefferson get on there (probably after the admiral agreed to the call) with a few more humans and take a massively different tone with the council than he had previously with the admiral. Basically "we've repelled your invasion, taken control of your flagship and if you don't agree to our terms we will destroy your sun and hunt down the surviving members of the council." Or at least something reminiscent of Mattis' ‘I come in peace. I didn’t bring artillery. But I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you fuck with me, I’ll kill you all.’ speach. Have the admiral be genuinely shocked at the tone change out of Jefferson and at the insinuation that that he had been captured, but then recognize that they could rescue Jefferson and kidnap him in a second if they wanted to... Then you more or less cut back into the end of the story The Council realizes the gravity of their mistake and agrees to negotiate and then commends the admiral on his "candor and wise judgment" and appoints him ambassador to the humans.

I call a great big nope on this one this is not how humans would react to a full on invasion force if we have the technology and fire power to repel it easily no there would be no trade agreement thered be absolutely no negotiations we'd simply vaporize the invasion force then what is it called when you use astronomy and mathe to back plot a course to where they came from then we'd show up with our own invasion force a show then how an invasion is actually done and thats from orbit you dont land hell no you simply bombard the planet with orbital syrikes until theres nothing left but glass then you put boots on the ground to check once its confirmed theyre alm dead you leave if its found there is still a fighting force on that planet they will pull back to orbit crack the planet like a freakin egg then watch from outside the system as that planet explodes guess what now theres peace 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Just started watching but I think it's a bad idea to invade us. A really, REALLY bad idea.

What’s the name of the story?
@Neteruk11 ай бұрын
This story is missing something crucial. Doesn't quite have the immersion factor down. If your story is short, try to make as many parts of it believable as possible. E.g, if you attack the population of any civilization...they will respond with force. If they have the capacity to blow up stars, you'll be lucky to bring your aggression to their star system...let alone attack them and have one ship captain or admiral decide to write of the dead. Can't happen, won't happen. More likely, you'll get a dose of supernovas for your troubles. Also, the events seem to suggest that these people have their council in the invading ship? Yeah, no admiral of any human military, or force, would stop themselves from blowing up that ship, let alone the crew. Pucture yourself as the gunnery officer; would you let some xenos invade and kill people, while you twiddle your thumbs? No, you'd probably fire at will, and then not really get court-martialed... because your loyalty is to those you protect first, and the hierarchy second.

You do realize he was using cross-galactic communication to talk to the council right..

Jefferson clearly has a massive technological advantage and is trying to reach hearts and minds.. and show them a better way.. there’s no need for vengeance or all out war if you can persuade your enemy of a better way.. “the greatest victory is that which requires no battle”

@@necishax610would've been better than total war and a few decades of conflict instead.
