This was supposed to be a less intensive side project, but ended up snowballing into a rather involved & polished piece considering how short it is. I mean the 3D animation! The fully colored drawings! Makes for a "dense" or "rich" viewing experience but I really gotta learn how to pick my battles b/c spending ~20 hours drawing guys on a bench who're only on-screen for ~7 seconds ain't exactly what I'd call efficient haha.
It's okay though I got a lot of good things out of it that I'll probably talk about in a later timelapse video, so stay tuned for that...! The fact I'm pointing to the drawing as the hardest part is probs a good sign, means that I've finally gotten pretty comfortable w/ my video editing processes & software (though the best practices for audio polishing still elude me, will have to study up on that o_o)
As for the actual subject matter, 2 of my fav pastimes are animation & pondering video games/other things I enjoy. So in my eyes this video is right up my alley, though I'm a bit unsure of how it'll be received. It's definitely less educational/informational than my previous long-form vid, but if you learn a thing about penguins then heck yeah. Btw they CAN be attacked inland by things like petrels swooping down on them, but humans don't look/move enough like petrels for them to worry, so I didn't feel the need to put a disclaimer in the video proper. These are the kind of small corrections that make me miss YT annotations ;w;
Pacing-wise this was an interesting one to make b/c it's more comedy-focused. I mean I know my stuff usually is, but in this case I'm specifically talking about delivering multiple comedy bits over a length of time. Usually my animated skits center around 1 punchline. And my prev long-form vid was more focused on conveying info, so it had plenty of breathing room for jokes. Here there isn't as much hangtime, so I'm worried the editing style may have become too rambunctious or boisterous. Comedy comes from the unexpected, which leads to a lot of abrupt cuts, music, tone shifts etc. that I hope are spaced out enough to not be overwhelming ^^;
This was a rare time where I never got tired of hearing the same bits over & over while editing so I think it's probably fine, though. Could be a case of tunnel vision so I'll be keeping an eye out for feedback as always ;P
