also keep in mind that even when you master any trick there will be some days where the universe plots againts you and you will not be able to even ollie. so if you learn to kickflip and the next day you get confused for not being able to land it again, or the next week you just momentaneously forgot it, just keep in mind it will keep happening a lot.

I feel like keeping your shoulders straight with the board can help with committing to tricks. I've taught a few people how to kickflip and I noticed that when they land with only their back foot, their shoulders are turned. It especially affects me. I just recently spent a month learning a new flatground trick and I noticed that one of my biggest problems was that my shoulders were turned, and it was a lot easier to stick the trick when I had them straight. I'm sure it's common knowledge to most skaters to keep your shoulders straight, but in case it isn't to a few people, there's another tip for ya.

To anyone who struggles landing it : *Remember ! Landing on the board upside down is still better than not landing at all* . Cuz like whenever you land on the board upside down u're starting to build up slowly the confidence in yourself to land on the top side of the board by time. If you're struggling with keeping your front foot on the board, check out his right arm (left of screen) at 4:20 during the flips where his front foot stays off, to his good flips (like at 2:40). You'll see the right (back) arm comes around in front again during and after kicking, to help counteract the left leg. In the 'bad' flips, his back arm stays out behind him. People rarely talk about arms and upper body enough in skating but it's super important to help balance the motions of your legs. But I can't kickflip either yet so what do I know lol.

Hey bro. I'm about a month in front of you. Just getting back into skating. And I'm 40. I just want flip tricks consistently. I've always had kickflips good, and I agree with your statement about them. Always working on them. I couldn't land a frontside flip on flat back 15 years ago. I've recently got them. It's all about slanting your front foot (flick foot) a little more than a kickflip. Your back foot being on the edge of the board, like toes over the side of your tail, almost grabbing the tail like a monkey, like you do with the 360 flip, but other way obviously. Open your shoulders early. Make sure your front 180 is really good. Try and land on your nose at first. All in that order. Think, slant foot, grip side of tail with toes, push out and away with that foot, but at same time open your shoulders and turn em. Land on your nose at first

You know what's crazy, when attempting a varial kickflip I got no problems trying to land back on the board. But when trying a regular kickflip my front foot is depending on my back foot being on the ground to get back on. It's so weird. I am going to try half kick flips now, but it's tough.
@archivedbam4 жыл бұрын
PHeMoX I learned varial flips first too and surprisingly a lot of people do, possibly because it’s like landing a shuv. But it’s a step in the right direction for sure, try flipping more diagonally and maybe at first try landing with the board upside down
@jeeneeraykreenaldeen79794 жыл бұрын
For me, I believe kickflips are harder than varial flips. I think it's because kickflips require more flexible ankle flicking, whereas varial flips require more of a rigid ankle when flicking. Like I can switch and nollie varial flip, but come no where close to switch or nollie flips. Hell my switch Ollie and nollie are also both awful, for me, it's because my left ankle (my switch flicking foot) is far more rigid. The bending of the ankle is crucial for Ollies and kickflips.
@PHeMoX4 жыл бұрын
@@jeeneeraykreenaldeen7979 Yeah not only that, I think a varial kick flip kind of requires only a three-quarter flick and three-quarter (or less) scoop to get both the kick flip part and shove it part going. The hard part about the varial kickflip for me now, and the reason why I haven't landed it cleanly, is the tendency to shoot out quite a bit (toe side). For me it is also easier to do both a scoop and flick at the same time whilst jumping forward for a landing. A kick flip requires me to jump up more and keep my front foot especially longer in the air than during a pop shove it, or indeed a varial kick flip (mostly because I'm also focusing on jumping forward pop shove it way). I might have to agree a varial kickflip might come easier to some people. Even though a proper varial kickflip will depend a _lot_ on how well you manage to keep a pop shove it under you (scooping back and nose side more than just backwards scoop).

Keep trying and it will eventually come. Took me forever, every time i felt like i figured something out something else would seem to go wrong. Eventually it just started working and now i can land some pretty good feeling ones.
@PHeMoX4 жыл бұрын
Focus on those half flips / upside down landings. Forget about the full rotation for now, but focus a _lot_ on jumping up and retracting the legs _after_ your flick. Make sure your back foot has like 70% of the weight, making the front truck almost comes into the air right before you pop and flick and then tug in your legs and crouch in the air. Look at where you want to land. Focus on half flips and staying above the board. I bet you are like me, landing front foot only generally means the back foot was on the ground pretty much the entire time. And if landing the back foot, chances are high you're flicking down (even though you know this is wrong, after all, you're probably flicking up when landing front foot only). I think the main problem is how to shift weight and balance the moves. I also noticed my front foot needs to remain high with the back foot jumping up in the air to catch up. At that point the back foot should also be able to catch the board after the rotation, but I myself am working on half flips first now too.

This video defo helped me, back into skating after maybe 13ish years and the friction effect is real, I was throwing my board out in front of me due to a new board/GT, so I'm doing the diagonal flick now and it's helping a lot, the board is staying underneath me and actually rotating now lol. Also the straight shoulders is definitely a thing.

I just started with skating again and my problem on kickflips was not leaning forward enough. When i leaned forward my kickflips got much cleaner and consistent.

Solid video. Appreciate it Sir. I just landed heelflila on a bank now I have to get them flat. It only took me 43 years😂. Then the kickflip battle will begin.

The front leg is important too. I noticed if I put my front foot at an angle, I should keep that knee parallel with the board until I’m ready to flick. Like rotate that knee inward just a bit till it’s straight. I think that help with getting your kick flips to pop (higher)and getting the flick just right. Not that it can’t be done otherwise but it’s hard to get the front foot to catch the grip and get that pop that you want. Does this sound right to you?

Landing with the back foot only for a LONG time really messed up my kickflips. Gonna unlearn them then see if I can relearn them properly

I'm at the part where you said just commit to landing it. I landed a few but can't seem to consistently at all. I just have to commit more mentally

"interesting time to be alive"...I remember watching this video last year. I got back into skating because of lockdown, still interesting time. I can kickflip now.

For the front foot, I know it's a problem of stance, and I try to correct it. My front shoulder isn't parallel with the board but a bit frontsided. Good point: I can Frontside really easily, but kickflip seems unreachable.

When I do my kickflips, I like to think of it as *sweeping* the foot off the board rather than sliding it off

My kick flips go behind me and I’ve been trying to find a video that helps me. Can you make a video or something? ( I can’t land kick flips sometimes but they always go behind me and I’ve been trying for a year)

The reason for the practice step of stepping off the board with the back foot is to get muscle memory of getting the kick back to the board. But what does the back foot do?? Does it hover over it?
@GT1981IL4 жыл бұрын
in all the how to videos i have never heard anyone talking about the way you have to jump in order to catch the board. what i mean is when your flips are not linear if you know what i mean like not perfect forward flips that stay straight under you, you will need to jump back little bit to still be over the board in case its not perfectly placed. makes sense ? its just one of my issues im learning to adjust to.

you have to orient your shoulders along with the board and make sure that your weight is centered in the center. otherwise theyre gonna go ahead/behind you because you'll be jumping backwards/forwards instead of jumping up
