I have a fan going because of the heat, and it was interesting to actually pay attention to how its sound changes as it turns and then comes back towards me, etc.. There're a lot of trees where I live, as well as a busy highway a few metres away. Right now traffic's a bit less than usual, but it's a good exercise to try to figure out whether it's a car or truck going by. Motorcycles are obvious. Silence has rarely ever bothered me and I love it, but it's not often that I just sit and pay attention to it, unless it's early in the morning when the birds are singing the most or in the twilight and nighttime when the frogs are calling out at certain times. Thanks for sharing this with us.

There used to be a Dutch TV program called De Wereld Draait Door (the world continues spinning or the world spins out of control) that regularly had musicians as guests and they would be asked to play about a minute or so of one of their recent tracks. It was very rarely that a full song was played. I can only think of 3 but one of then was definitely John Cage's 4"33', which I thought was hilarious. Because it was 4 minutes and 33 seconds of just ambient sounds. I still wonder how they prevented the emergency track from playing.

I suggest doing this exercise, not at home. Do it somewhere in an unfamiliar place. At home, most of the sounds are familiar and dull. In an unfamiliar place, you will able to hear more sounds than tinnitus and enjoy hearing them. Just make sure you have good wi-fi coverage to watch this video on KZbin. Yes, your brain is unique. It can ignore the sound of tinnitus or at least seriously reduce it. Also, try to hear the sound of your thoughts without active participation in your thinking, just passively observing your thoughts. I hope you will find a new experience for yourself. Enjoy!

Novelist George Eliot wrote "“That element of tragedy which lies in the very fact of frequency, has not yet wrought itself into the coarse emotion of mankind; and perhaps our frames could hardly bear much of it. If we had a keen vision and feeling of all ordinary human life, it would be like hearing the grass grow and the squirrel’s heart beat, and we should die of that roar which lies on the other side of silence. As it is, the quickest of us walk about well wadded with stupidity.”

I’m sick in bed, I hear my stomach making weird noises, beautiful thunderstorm outside, my wife is in the other room making a snack for us In bed, the air conditioner kicks on, the dryer finishes it’s cycle, the dishwasher begins to drain, my wife walks in and asks what I’m up to, I tell her I’m experiencing a musical piece, she apologizes, I finish 4:33, she says she could’ve written that. Haha 😆 Life is beautiful, sound is beautiful.
