This topic is my story. I was in ministry for almost 20 years, its sad that i Just had the opportunity to head a church somewhere in the middle east for 3 years ,but then i failed. I discpilined myself nobody told me to do so. But i know the truths of the bible. So im out of formal ministry for 2 years now, doing other work. I dont know if i can still can back , its depressing at the same timw im thankful that God did not let me to live a life of sin but instead discplined me and show me more of His love.

The Lord never leave you nor forsakes you. He restored Peter and other disciples for His ministries. The Lord shall dicipline you for He loves you. I desire that you handover the church to a another pastor in order to keep the sanctity and testimonies of the church. AND start a new fresh ministry.... after you are sure of your repentance ( change of mind ) and re-commitment to the Lord. God can and will use to win souls and edify the church. Satan might often discourage you and create humiliation in you. But be confidence in the blood of the Lamb and serve Him for His forgiveness. God bless you my brother.

What about when the women cheats on the pastor? Because I've seen the pastors getting discharge taking the blame and mockery Also they do their life miserable i knew a pastor whos wife was on and on for years with different people 2 decades why did they pass that honest man through all that ? Such pain all the time not metioning humiliation...why he was not allowed to get his divorce? she never repented he was the main topic all over the place... he was so humble and practice holiness and fear God the most, why the assemblies of God or whatever name never had mercy on that kind of situation when it comes to that kind of serious sin or problem?he was to be blame when he proved he was righteous? Thats not fair that he never enjoyed his marriage because his wife was busy pleasing the whole town.ah?!! dont want light answers please because if someone takes time to discuss one point of view for sure will have to discuss the other one. excuse my English please! am on it .

This is a good example of true repentance. From the case given in the video, the man was exposed. He only admitted he was wrong after being exposed. That's not repentance. I don't know what sin you committed, but I find that Pastors are to be exemplary. If people know you as someone who is truly repentant and not as an untrustworthy sinner, then you are exemplary. Also, having the giftings of an eldership role is not having the calling to an eldership role. You may never serve as an elder again, but you can walk in obedience to Christ, proclaiming the gospel and making disciples. You probably know all this, but I share it in hopes of stirring up the Holy Spirit and the Word of God within you

That is a common propositional statement that negates the doctrine of grace. St. Peter denied Christ and removed himself from ministry- yet Christ restored him because of his repentance. Not all cases are the same- there is no need to "prove to be a new person." There is no such thing for the regenerate. That Pastor simply needs to step away from ministry- and leave it for later in life- anyone can fall into a grievous sin.

I understand this. There are qualifications overtly listed. But for example being divorced isn't one of them. We have extrapolated things because of how we feel. Husband of one wife means "husband of one wife," so be married currently to one woman. I've been to places that shun divorced people from leadership.

Pastor John Hagge had an affair with a member of his church, was found out, divorced his wife of whom he had two children, then married the woman he had an affair with and started Cornerstone church a year later. He now has 5 children and a nearly 8,000 acre ranch with multiple multi million dollar homes and several million dollars in the bank while preaching to others how adultery is wrong. He was one of my favorite pastors for years until earlier this year when I found out about him. I was heartbroken but unshaken in my faith, however I believe he is certainly unqualified to preach again. A pastor is to be beyond reproach 1 Timothy 3:2. Almighty God was very clear in this verse. John Hagee has his cake and has eaten it his entire life. The souls that have been eternally lost due to his selfish and reckless behavior is probably staggering. He knew better, and if he wanted that life and to commit that violation of his office then he should have stepped down and received his reward and never preached again.

The Bible says that we are to live lives worthy of our calling! A pastor is to be a leader, a role model, a shepherd, an instructor. If he can not beat his flesh into submission and control his carnality, then he should not be in a leadership role. Forgiveness is something completely different. My grandfather molested me. I forgave him. It does not mean I trust him with my children. A pastor who commits adultery while leading a congregation is not living a life worthy of his calling. He should not be ousted from the church. If he is truly repentant, he should come back to the church as a member of the congregation not a leader. Pastor John you've nailed this one perfectly!
@HiVisl
@HiVisl 3 жыл бұрын
Question for reflection: according to Romans 1 and 2, who lives their life worthy of their calling? Who faultlessly has their flesh in complete submission? If you were to apply that standard to yourself, you’d fail. The elder brother in the parable of the prodigal son thought he was a good person, an upright person, when comparing himself with his fallen brother. Sadly, the parable shows that the elder brother’s self-righteousness put him further away from God--and he didn’t even know it.

Jay Dub There is a list of people who will not inherit the kingdom. If you are living a life that puts you among them then you have NO BUSINESS instructing His flock. We are to take the plank from our eyes before we try and remove the speck from our brother’s. How does one headed to Hell instruct anyone about how to get to Heaven? Be reasonable... 🤷🏻‍♀️

Living a Godly life and walking in God’s statutes and commandments does not make one self-righteous. We know where our righteousness comes from. A person who walks with God climbs out of their sinful nature, they do not wallow in it. There are VERY specific requirements for what qualities a leader or elder should possess. These requirements come from God. You don’t like it take your argument up with Him. Pssst... Whenever you think your thoughts are higher than His you are dead wrong. “So a church leader must be a man whose life is above reproach. He must be faithful to his wife.[a] He must exercise self-control, live wisely, and have a good reputation. He must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must be able to teach” (1 Tim. 3:2, NLT).

sarahlynn4790 Apply what Romans 2 says: We all sin, every day, and we all rely on God's grace every day. Are you suggesting that you are sinless? That you don't deserve complete and utter judgement outside of Christ? If you, a sinner, need God's mercy every day, why would you deny someone that same grace and mercy because they fell in a different way to you? You are just as deserving of death as they are. If, in Christ, they repent and are justified by God, for what reasons do you deny them God's grace? May I graciously point out that you have a log in your eye? Will you cast the first stone? --- Romans 2:1 (LEB): Therefore you are without excuse, O man, every one of you who passes judgment. For in that which you pass judgment on someone else, you condemn yourself, for you who are passing judgment are doing the same things.”

Jay Dub You are talking about two different things here. 1. Is a matter of salvation. 2. The other is a matter of what God Himself requires of a pastor/leadership role in the church. Did you miss the part where I said the man should continue as a member of the church? Miss me with your twisting of my words. Clearly you are attempting to be argumentative simply for the sake of an argument. Intentional, willful sin has no place in my life. His seed abides in me. No log in my eye sir. I’ve been through the vomit, I refuse to return to it. “Those who sin should be reprimanded in front of the whole church; this will serve as a strong warning to others” (1Tim 5:20). Here are 28 verses from God Himself about those who persist in sin. bible.knowing-jesus.com/topics/Continuing-In-Sin You sir know absolutely nothing about me. CLEARLY.... You are also seriously lacking in your understanding of scripture. I on the other hand spend 90% of my waking hours studying it relentlessly. I do this because it is commanded of me, not suggested. I have devoted my life to God and to being instructed by Him. You have seriously twisted my words and attempted to erode the word of God. Nowhere did I say that the man is not able to be saved or repent. WHAT I SAID was that his actions disqualify him for the position of elder/pastor... ACCORDING TO GOD.... I stand by this. Well, because God says so....

Excellent teaching full of good insights. John Piper really understands how serious it is when a pastor commits adultery. Here are a few thoughts of my own on this subject: (1) There shouldn't be a rule set in stone for how to treat a pastor who has sinned and wants to get back into Christian leadership. There will be a certain amount of variety from case to case. (2) We mustn't forget that the gospel is all about forgiveness. So it is wrong to say simply that every pastor who commits adultery should never, ever under any circumstances be allowed to be a Christian leader again. For example, if a man is 30 years old when he sins, to say that even when he is 60 he should be automatically barred from leadership is to go too far. It doesn't appreciate either God's forgiveness or his ability to change people. (3) Almost always it will be wrong for a man to be allowed to get back into ministry within a matter of months of repenting of his sins. As Piper says, he should typically aim to get another job and spend years demonstrating that he is a changed character.

At minimum it seems as though that a Christian who goes with another man's wife is barred for life (or at least until the husband dies) from ever being an Elder or Deacon because Elders and Deacons are to be above reproach and Proverbs 6:32-35 says for such a man that his reproach will never go away.

I know about 4 years ago my Sr. Pastor had an affair with a married women in my church. Her family ended up seperating. But he and his wife are still together. He voluntarily stepped down and genuinely seemed broken. I don't know if he was caught it if he confessed. Either way, he said he was "no longer qualified." Now I don't know how long he has been at another church. But I know he worked in insurance for like 2 years and started going to another church. Then they ended up hiring him on as their life group pastor. So I guess things are working out for him.

It doesn't happen overnight, a little sin here, a little sin there. He didn't just fall into sin. Little things became a norm for him like watching more tv than reading the bible, or just looking again at the woman walking the dog, etc. As a man I know as well as any other man that we're geared with visual eyes that controls our passions. We must get every thought captive according to the word of God. Truth is it could happen to any of us but some they just let take control and yes they should stay away from a pastor leadership. David repented yes, but there was a judgement that went it, his son died. Yes there's grace but God chastises those who He loves.

If the Holy Spirit gives gifts and may as easily take them, why doesn't God "remove the lampstand" as it were, taking the teaching and/or shepherding gifts alongside the failure? A man who is able to just get in the bed with another woman who is not his wife is exemplifying unfitness for pastoral ministry. End of story. That does not mean he can’t be forgiven by God and by his wife but that does not mean he is fit to pastor a flock of males and females trust cannot be restored overnight and that’s the issue plus the embarrassment of the gospel we are just making a mockery of Christ left and right by jumping in and out of bed with people we are not married to. The church elders, didn't smoke, drink or appeared to be leaders. Rejected me and I became homeless. Now the God I know, says He cares about the fatherless the orphan and the widow. That He is close to the broken hearted. We do need good leaders with integrity but also with a heart of Christ. Who did Jesus choose as apostles, or anointed? David, the adulterer and murderer? Paul who killed Christians? Peter who denied Jesus? Thomas who doubted? Just a thought but don't we serve a God of second chances & seventy times 7? However, can we see examples of David, Solomon, Samson, and other saints of God fallen in several sins, but yet used by God in several ways ? How much more Ambassadors of Christ and His Kingdom???? To reinstate a pastor is clear disobedience to scripture. It is a bad example for leadership and Gods wisdom to not allow this has nothing to do with the pastor but everything to do with how the unsaved and the sheep see this. If we don’t hold the leaders in GODs kingdom to a high standard by example we give license to the sheep to “ mess up” in this area and as long as they repent they’re good to go. Dangerous dangerous to not be salt and light and give license via leadership reinstated

Keeping the seventh day Sabbath was part of the Law of Moses, which is no longer in force now that Christ has come (Gal 3:19-25). It's not that God has changed. It's just that the Law of Moses has been superseded by the Law of Christ (1 Cor 9:21; Gal 6:2). In Col 2:16-17 Paul tells the Colossians: "Therefore, don't let anyone judge you in regard to food or drink or regarding a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of what was to come." The implication in this passage is that the shadow no longer counts now that Christ has come. That is not to say that it is wrong to keep the Jewish Sabbath. Christians may keep the Jewish Sabbath or they may observe Sunday as a special day, but these things are not compulsory for us. As Paul says in Rom 14:5: "One person considers one day to be more important than another day. Someone else considers every day to be the same. Let each person be convinced in his own mind."

John is exceptionally skilled at convincing you of something that is not necessarily biblical. Gotta hand it to him. He makes a very compelling argument. Yet the reality here is always that TIME is used as a magic device, for it is always TIME that is what heals and TIME that causes offense to fade. Notice that TIME is required for Trust, and that Trust is separated from forgiveness. This of course excuses the claim that Paul makes “love keeps no record of wrong and does not seek its own.” Now, tell me, friends, if I claim to forgive someone and then I insist that I do not trust them, am I not keeping a record of wrong? Am I not seeking my own well-being? Let us think and rethink what we as a society have come to accept as proper and return to the Lord and study the truth of forgiveness and become better equipped for the good work of restoration.

What you say about David is true but please keep a few things in mind. 1. Israel’s kings were chosen and appointed by God Himself. Their holding the royal office was not on condition of the people’s vote or choice. Therefore it was God who both forgave and reinstated David onto his throne, not the people. 2. Pastors on the other hand are chosen and placed into their office by the church. Hence the list of qualifications. Which means that pastors can be removed from the office by the church for failing to meet the divine criteria. It is dangerous to treat pastors as the continuation of the old covenant monarchy when scripture does not bear this out. How God handled kings is not always analogous to how we should handle pastors. As Pastor Piper stated, forgiveness does not equal trust, even in the face of repentance. I don’t see Paul complaining that the church didn’t really forgive him because they still saw him as a potential persecutor shortly after his Damascus road experience. Instead he did what God had called him to do and earned their trust. It is not holding the sins of a child molester against him if after he “repents” he is not allowed to participate in the children’s ministry.

Either God forgives completely or he doesn't. David sinned heinously yet God forgave him. If there is true repentance then who is man to get in the way of God's forgiveness and purposes? And I agree with you too that in the example you have just given, the second man is now the one who is in the wrong. The first man has repented, the second man has not. In my earlier comment, the main thing I was stressing was the variation in how repentant people are. There is a huge difference between someone who fights against temptation and sometimes loses the fight, and someone who doesn't even bother to fight. If someone fights against temptation to commit adultery but gives in for a few seconds now and then, that is very bad. I m o. When you join the religion you ask for forgiveness . For the sins you have done. Then any sin while in religion should be a no no. You have to work really for the forgiveness the second time. So for me the pastor should not be a pastor. I'm a new Christan I've just started and I'm going by the book

C E no man. You can’t earn forgiveness. You can’t work to justify your soul in God’s sight. In the eyes of God, It is painted over by the blood of Christ. You live a lifestyle of righteousness not to earn forgiveness, but from a place of being forgiven for every sin past, present and future, and loving God for who he is, and seeking to show his worth and value, and out of love. Romans speaks about this regarding the one who is still under law. He is trying to earn what he cannot. He hasn’t accepted the gift of Christ.

Not really. As Christians, we are commanded to forgive 70 times 7. In other words: always and at any time. Those are Jesus’ words. I do agree that after being converted, we should be extremely careful with playing with sin. We must keep living in a state of fear of the Lord. But forgivess is for free and endless. Forgiveness is not earned, it is a gift. And we are commanded to give it to anyone who wrongs us. After all; the One person in the universe who had the right to NOT forgive, forgave us all. Who are we to deny forgiveness to whoever asks for it? God bless you and may God lead you in this wonderful path of Christian living :)

I have never understood people, who claim to be bought with the blood of Jesus, calling themselves something other than “a Christian”. Period. You are either a follower of Catholicism, Lutheran, Calvinist, Mormon, Seventh Day Adventist, etc..... or you’re a Christian. Be a blood bought “Christ”ian. Being anything else, is futile. It’s not scriptural. Thank you Jesus Christ for your awesome willingness to pay the price for MY sin. Have your way Lord. Have your way in me. More of you and less of me, everyday. Help Lord. You know me. Thank you. I love you.

Its notable that John states that there is no definite standard from the scripture to answer the question, and yet he continues to present his opinion as though his opinion is the inerrant and inspired Word of God. I'm sorry but in my opinion John has disqualified himself as one of my sources of wisdom when he basically endorsed Joe Biden for president. Signed - a former pastor who was been away from the pulpit for over 3 years.

My own take on this talk from the pastor is that, when someone can trust the spouse, is better than when you always forgive him or her. Such a pastor who commits adultery or fornication is not really a called born again Christian to serve among the brethren in the church rather he's a wolves in sheep's clothing. Quote me anywhere.

Not even a difficult question - do what the Bible clearly says. Adultery most definitely disqualifies a man from pastoral ministry. Of course, we need to pause and be reminded that the modern American concept of pastor is not even in the Bible. Being an elder/overseer in God's church was never intended to be a career.

James Parker well, many people are called from sinful life. They are made new. Either this man was not made new or he, like pasted John said, sinned against God, his wife, the light, and the glory of the gospel ministry. Remember that Jesus took the sin of every person, but the issue isn’t about forgiveness, it’s compounded by its multiple layers of the seriousness of it. That was all from the video. Also, remember that being a Christian doesn’t mean they’re perfect. We all fall short. We are all tempted.

Have you ever looked at a woman's butt or breasts? No fantasies in your mind? if no, then you're the only man alive to accomplish that! But if you have, then you have committed adultery. We (humans including Christians) are more rotten than you think. We just ignore the hidden sins of the mind easier. David was a man after God's heart and look what he did. Was he forgiven? yes. But his family life was a complete mess for the rest of his life.

@@kaboom9081 well let me tell you my friend.. no doubt by any means that I have sinned since becoming a Christian. But lusting in your mind and going to some place with someone, being alone, flirting and then going the 9 yards and actually sleeping with someone is definitely not the same thing. I cannot imagine any converted man doing that. I mean, I wouldnt even dream of such a thing. These things are unquestionable for Christians. I dont even expect this from Muslims. Even they wouldnt do it.

@@finallyritchie3652 Brother you're missing the point. For some Christian men, sex is a bigger struggle then for others who struggle with porn, greed, gambling, anger, drugs, alcohol etc. We all have a major weakness that stands above our other sins. Your original post sounds like you come from a Christian home and don't know what is like to be saved from darkness. Jesus saved me when I was 25 so I had lots of time to indulge in sin and even after being born again, some of those sins did NOT disappear immediately which is why we call it sanctification which lasts a lifetime as Jesus transforms our hearts slowly. There is no magic wand. Don't underestimate the power of sin or you become like Peter who made a promise he could not keep by denying Jesus 3 times. I'm 50 and i'm not the same man I was when I was saved and baptized. I've made many mistakes I regret during my Christian walk but I owe everything I am today to my beautiful Lord who doesn't treat me like I deserve. That's why I love Jesus and can't wait to give Him a big hug and weep. God bless!

Sadly, there was no citation of scripture with this man's opinions. It's difficult to base decisions on such difficult scenarios with mere opinions. The church, in general, is teaching opinions more than ever before. This seems to be scriptural advice mixed with informed opinion. So why not cite the scripture passages used? I have no disrespect for this ministry or this man. I'm just sad that the commentary didn't include backing references. The church I attend has some a but similar to this going on right now. I am quite concerned and trying to act properly.
