What I actually find to be the saddest thing alongside Papyrus' death is the fact that he just wants to be popular and have friends, but he feels like no one notices him ou cares (except Sans and Undyne) because no one shows him this affection, but after he is gone a lot of monsters miss him a lot and I'm left here thinking: Does he know he is that well liked? He doesn't seem to know this while desperatly trying to capture you...

I think the saddest thing about this scenario is that, if you kill Papyrus, Sans goes into complete shutdown. You don’t see him anywhere else for the rest of the game-nowhere in Waterfall or Hotland, until the Final Corridor, and only then he’s really there only because he’s needed. It’s like watching a close friend become a hermit, and knowing it’s your fault...

Papyrus present dissappearing is the saddest. Sans withnessed you killing Papyrus and immediately used his shortcut and teleportation to snatch the present away, because Papyrus would obviously appear to get it as soon as possible, and thus be seen by the rest of the Snowdin residents. Reminds me of when Sans lies to Papyrus about Undyne, Alphys and Asgore being in vacation. He doesn't have the heart to let the villagers know you killed Papyrus. This is Sans devastating response to what you had done. The present was obviously from him, for his brother. Who else was going to take it back. Imagine a kid preparing a gift for his little brother, for when he gets home. Along the road a car kills him. You just happened to do that to Sans. But what you did was deliberate, as opposed to the driver killing the child. This is why he cannot forgive you for it. You can see this symbolic act of retrieving the gift as a warning. His trust for you will never be the same again. aaaaand you get dunk'd on

I feel sadder if Papyrus dies since he is really the only innocent monster in the game as he does not try to kill you like the others. He does not need to make a promise to prevent him from killing you which makes him more innocent than Sans despite Sans only fighting you on Genocide. Papyrus does not even kill you and force you to have to reset if you lose he just captures you. To him it is a fun game and he actually grows to like you and hopes to be your friend. Papyrus is really the only monster there is no justification for killing. I mean Undyne has likely killed a few humans and Asgore is a child murderer. Mettaton has too many issues to list and is more narcissistic and self obsessed than Papyrus in the sense that he does not really care about other people. Even the flower wants to kill you so this whole underground is really messed up.

After you defeat Papyrus, when you went to talk to the bear in the orange jumpsuit standing outside of Grillby's he's not wrong. When you go to Undyne, walk in the grass. Now stop. Now walk to the left and you'll see what is Papyrus' so called "ghost". It's either just a glitch in the game or Toby Fox made a mistake, but no one really knows for sure.

What’s even more unsettling is that the “sans.” theme in Grillby’s bar is silent. I know it says the jukebox broke, but the game is signifying that Sans has shut down completely. Even the residents and everyone in the bar mention that Sans hasn’t shown up anywhere. And it becomes even more scary when you don’t come across Sans at his posts. In waterfall and hotland. The game is trying to get you to reset. It started with the “but nobody came” encounters in the Ruins. and then Sans not showing up. When I killed Toriel and Papyrus for a genocide route and saw Sans wasn’t in waterfall.. I freaked out and faded into a neutral route instead.

Only BOSS MONSTER’S SOUL’s can persist outside of death for a little while. This is why you see Toriel and Asgore’s SOULs when they die...Papyrus is not a boss monster. You do not see his soul when he dies.

0:24 keep in mind that monsters are supposed to die instantly. The only times where a monster lingers before they die are the ones that have a lot of DETERMINATION: examples being Undyne, Asgore, Toriel, and sans. Papyrus has a high DETERMINATION count confirmed.
