I think the reason why the world ranking was scrapped so late is that Sonic team found it pointless to do an online feature for their game on a dead console.

Iizuka did say that SA2 was the game the team were most comfortable working, they were all friends, Jun Senoue even did extra hours just to compose more music, the team had fun making it and it shows

i feel like it'd make more sense for sonic to be in sky rail in that trailer because shadow hadn't been revealed yet so they wanted to keep him a surprise, rather than him never being planned as a playable character at all

Not so sure about that. Each stage's music suits the character who plays it. Knuckles stages are always Rap, Rouge's are Jazz, Eggman is Industrial and Sonic is Rock. Tails and Shadow also have their own styles, but idk the names for them. If you only exposed someone to the soundtrack, they would think Sky Rail is a Sonic level because it fits his genre more than Shadow's. Also, in the "Cannon's Core" 5-player level, there are 3 songs. Looking at the game files, you can see the songs have numbed IDs "1, 2 and 5". Song 1 plays for the Mech Characters, Song 2 plays for the Treasure Hunters and Song 5 plays for Sonic. But if we assign numbers to the order of the characters you play, 1= Tails, 2 = Eggman, 3 = Rouge, 4 = Knuckles and 5 = Sonic. We notice Song 1 fits Tails (Up beat), Song 2 fits Eggman (Industrial) and Song 5 fits Sonic (Rock). So that implies there was a cut song 3 and 4 themed after Rouge and Knuckles. After they cut those songs, they just used songs 1, 2 and 5 amongst all the characters. I wonder what songs 3 and 4 would have been like, especially the lyrics for Knuckle's song 4.

I wonder how much of the "Battle" / Gamecube edition's additions is actually stuff they were going to add to the original / Dreamcast version, but ran out of time to add. I think this includes most of the 2-player additions, considering most 2-player-only characters in the Dreamcast build don't have voice lines (Besides Amy, which I think are just recycled story quotes) and they all play identically to the main story counterparts. I'd assume the Dark Chao Walker was also cut Dreamcast content (For those who don't know, in the Dreamcast version the 2-player-only dark Mech character is actually Big the Cat in Eggman's Mech. No joke!) Speaking of multiplayer Super Hedgehog mode: Hidden in the Gamecube version if you trigger some debug values you can start a broken "4 player Super Hedgehog" mode (For proof, search *"Sonic Adventure 2: Unused 4-Player FinalHazard (1K Sub Special)"* on KZbin). And they didn't add the online leaderboards in the Gamecube version, because the GC didn't really have online capabilities. That's probably the same reason a lot of online-only Chao content was moved in game. After the Gamecube version, future ports didn't really add any new content. So who knows what else was left behind.

Me and my little bro got SOAP shoes because of this game. They were SO fucking fun to use in big cities with a lot of handrails. We literally grinded some shit out of SA2 that was in Mexico City, This Crazy Spiraling Handrail going down a parking garage of some art museum. We were grinding for more than whole minute on this massive curved rail.

@@shaulov10 Not sure if you're following me. There is a prerelease build of SA2 that has Super Shadow's texture appear shiny white. I think it was discovered in the last year or two. I saw it on Twitter. There have even been mods to restore it in SA2 and people are even doing it in other games like the Sonic Frontiers Shadow mod.
