My favorite thing is that Dragon just was a word for "serpent, giant seafish, huge serpent" in Greek/Latin/Early English. The only reason why we call so many different things dragons is because that was the word used in translations to name any vaguely longish monster. This is why a Chinese Loong/Lung, the Greek Wyvern, Mesopotamia's Tiamat, the Nordic Jormungandr, and many many more are just called 'dragon' by english speakers. Heck you get stuff in the Bible where they use the word dragon as a translation for the words Snake, Whale, Jackal, Sea Beast, etc. Humans will just point at stuff and be like "Wow look at that dark brown wild beast that lives in the northern woods! Now everything we see or hear about from other cultures described as a giant woods beast in scary stories will be a bear!"

People don't understand that dragons have several interpretations spanning over several cultures and fictional canons. They are literally the most diverse class of mythical creature, which is why you can do so much with them. It's not like you have an established taxonomy to follow per se (unless you are placing your OC within an established setting like DnD, which has specific taxonomic rules for their world's beasts). But seriously people, you can't gatekeep a fictional beast that has existed since ancient human times, lol.
