My most frequently asked question; which wheel should I get as my very first EUC? This week, that question answered and more!
Episode 78- Part of my series of introduction to EUC! Every story has a beginning and so should yours! LOL well I have been asked this question so many times that I figure I finally put it to rest once and for all, well and also give some more background to everyone who's thinking about getting into riding an EUC. Like what are the differences between all the different companies?? That and more this week!

Very happy to hear my V8F get some love in your video. I appreciated your characterizations of it's place and capabilities. To me, it seems that the Ferraris & Lamborghinis of the EUC world have been given enough coverage. Wheels that fall into the Accord/Camary class of EUC, while less sexy, still need coverage.

Love your videos! This one in particular coincides with my current situation. I just recently got into EUCs last month with a cheap old NB One E+, and due to the Gotway issues recently went with one of their more tried and true older models, Tesla v2, as my next step up commuter wheel. Looking forward to part 2!

It was my 1st wheel too, but after 3wks, i was almost ready to give in. But cause I'm stubborn, I had to rethink how best to go about learning. I then ordered an AirWheel X8 and was able to ride it in 2mins due to the lighter weight & low pedal clearance. After a few days, I had enough confidence to try to the V10F again and was able to ride immediately. So I do agree with Hsiang about having a beginner wheel. I still have the X8 so I can teach new riders and build the community.

I got the v10f as my first wheel aslo. I'm so happy I did b/c it gives me the opportunity go grow with the wheel. I normally cost at 16-21mph so the 25mph top speed isn't concerning atm. I imagine in 6ish months I'll be ready to upgrade for more power and speed but I'll keep the v10f as a over qualified errand wheel.

When I think about it if you are light enough the mten3. It is unstable until you learn to ride with it, so it's a double learning, small deviations in the road or pavement destabilises a rider easily plus tramlining so your awareness increases significantly, also the speed limitation gives you a sense of speed and when you need to pull back before the cutoff. Then when you move to a bigger wheel with more power and stability, your attentiveness, antipication, and reactions are set in stone, making you a better rider. Not immediately a wheel you would think to recommend as a first wheel but I certainly would.

All good tips, man! Especially on buying a smaller, used wheel. I am learning on a Ninebot, and can’t imagine it being a bigger more powerful wheel. Also, it fell down in such harsh ways…if it was new, I would definitely shed a tear 😁

Thanks Hsiang for such great & important intro. You're absolutely right in choosing KS16X & VF8 as the first EUCs' to start with. As you know my first EUC was the KS16x & I considered very safe & easy to learn. The high pedals on the Ks16X are a plus because they provide very good steady balance once you get the hand of it and also prevents you more from kissing the ground unlike the other EUCs'. The other choice Emotion Vf8 is great if you're looking for great performance but less weight. The Vf8 is only 32 lbs unlike the Ks16X with 50lbs. Currently I own the Vf8 but I haven't get a chance to try it yet due to the weather conditions in New York but spring is soon around the corner & I'm more than ready to hit the road just like Jack lol. I came across EUC's while doing some research for an electric scooter. Really got my attention. Looks really fun. I'm still looking at them and yet to decide but I think the V8F may be the way to go as it is relatively inexpensive compared to some of the others. Sadly next to no second hand market in my city. Once I get going then it may make sense to upgrade and drop $2000 +. Thanks for the great intro and I'll keep an eye out for part 2!

Same here.. I'm considering between a V8F or 16S. Then I got advice to try the 16X, and I also really want the S18 for the suspension. I kind of feel like the V8F might be easiest to learn on since its the smallest and lightest weight, the slowest. However, there isn't much price difference between that and some of the others and if you're going to upgrade it a few months.. maybe just go with the bigger, better wheel. So many options. Thank you, @Hslang for making this video. Very informative! Waiting for your next one to drop. If I get up to NYC, where can I try an EUC?

@@revolvingrider2146 I know z10 had problems at start, but if it doesn't comes as dead on arrival there's little chance something could go wrong with it. Just check the battery drain and you're good. It is OK to own a smaller/starter like wheel and a large wheel (after you learn how to ride/balance). The smaller wheel is useful for short trips or trips that involves bus/train, stairs, or when parking car far away. The big wheel would be used for long trips. The redundancy is helpful when 1 of the wheels is down, which happened recently when I got a flat. Replacing the inner tube on an EUC is a lot more work than compared to a bike or even a car.
@olgac9121
@olgac9121 3 жыл бұрын
Believe me, it is not always necessary to disconnect the entire wheel and remove it. You can remove the tube without disconnecting it, with 2 flat screwdrivers. You patch, you introde the tube, inflate and go. I did. It's simple. But almost no one believes it. Duf told me that he had to see it to believe it. I'm not talking about changing tire, I mean PATCH tube

I'm also unsure about usage as I'm aware of the UK law regarding euc's etc. I've seen a second hand inmotion V5 but not sure about it as most reviews that I've seen rate the V8. Comments appreciated from anyone who has something valid to offer.

@@allanb2906 Before you buy EUC is important how much you weight and what you are gonna use it for as well as possible daily distance. Battery capacity and motor power are the 2 main important features. The rest is down to personal preference.

I think I would have benefited more from going straight to the more forgiving Gotway msx instead of the ninebot z6 👍 the ninebot is a great short distance wheel but is hard to turn at speed and cannot take speed bumps.. The big tyre makes u think it will be better or softer but it has no inner tube which makes it hard and jarring when going over bumps.. The 19" msx & msp wheels are similar to motorbike tyres and this makes them great for commuting and long distances on and off road.. I could not do without mine after 6yrs and 6000kms.. 👍👍👍

I bought GW Tesla T3 as my first wheel. MCM5 is probably even better because of that wider tire, but GW makes normals wheels also, not only crazy ones :D. Maybe it was wrong choice but other riders told me that it is perfect as 1st wheel. For a long time no need for anything better for me I think :D.

So I'm wondering why there would be a starter unicycle as opposed to the unicycle with a beginner mode and an intermediate mode and expert mode? I have never ridden an electric unicycle but have always found normal unicycles with seats very easy to ride. I can ride skateboards ripsticks snowboards surfboards so it's only going to take me a very short time to learn but I don't want to have to buy a beginner one and then bye a pro mode version. Ready to hear after one week of riding the beginner model I would want an upgrade so what do you suggest?

Wait....when did EUC become a "sport"? Isn't it just a mode of transportation? I mean...I know cars can be used in sports, your legs and hands can be used in sports, it's what you do with the tool. But I do not see any sporting events held with EUCs and all these videos I watch are people just joy-riding. I'm not sure I personally would call it a sport but I could be wrong. None the less, I came here to say AWESOME video as always, bro. Keep 'em comin', bud!

Try riding a monster pro! As a matter fact the fact that it takes so much effort to ride that wheel is what most of the complaint lodge against it are so far, but it definitely take skill and strength to wrestle full performance out of a wheel.

Hello ! Thank you for this video on a subject ... I really like your videos,your stile is so amazing. I am from France and I also work my english with you ! Could you advise me on this subject ? I've been riding an unicycle for 2 years and I've had two falls lately. Two situations that are explained and that will probably not happen to me in the future. I must not be good at it because I know that some people have never fallen!... I love unicycle and I don't want to stop. It is still a safe way to ride but I have hurt myself a lot during these falls and I would like to protect myself better. I would like to get an airbag vest to protect my chest. There are some for motorcycles and bikes but I haven't found anything for unicycle... I would like to know if it is possible to use a motorcycle or bicycle airbag with automatic opening (fall detection). Will the vest open? The vests are not cumbersome and it would reassure me to wear one to protect my spine in case of a fall. Could you make a topic on this? or advise me a product? I thank you and I wish you a lot of success with your channel !
@OWGAC
@OWGAC 3 жыл бұрын
I guess motorcycle airbag would work but they are designed to handle faster speed? How fast are you crashing? Usually fall at 40 or even 50kmph shouldn’t require more than regular motorcycle jacket no? But everyone falls, and the more ride experience you have, the more you’ll learn how to better react and you’ll be more stable and less likely to fall.

@@OWGAC Hello. Thanks for your answer. I come back to you because I have contacted a french compagnie who make an airbag for bicycle. I asked them if it would open ? They anwer me I communicate to you and your communauty their anwer if a person is interrested. The compagnie name is Helite and the product "b safe". The answer : We do not currently have a product developed specifically for the unicycle. The models we have for bikes and motorcycles are safe to use on an unicycle but will only cover a part of the accidents. An impact directly against a truck or a wall will not be covered, A side impact against a car will not be covered, A mowing by a car will be partially covered, depending on the speed and shape of the car A crash will be covered from 10 km/h onwards Bye

late to the party but wondering if you think the learning curve is very steep or just somewhat more difficult when thinking about getting a nicer one. For example - ive never ridden but am considering the S22 whenever that happens and I would hate to drop a sum of money on a cheaper one and then go drop more for the one I want. The only way I could justify that is if we would expect EUC's to comfortably hit 60mph sometime in the near future, in which case - I could "suffer" for a little bit with a more learner friendly version, That being said, my intention for learning is a park, on the grass and taking it very slow for a couple weeks before actually taking it to pavement. What are your thoughts/perspective on the aforementioned?

I'm curious how much riding in the cold like that affects your battery life. Do you find yourself replacing the batteries often, or do they last several years? I just bought my first EUC, and my long-term goal is to replace my 2nd car with an EUC. I'll only use the car for large shopping trips, long distance travel, or icy conditions.

I need something that's 1000w or less and personal preference dictates that it will need to be as nimble as possible which I think I would get out of the skinnier tire. knowing myself I'll be riding it really aggressively in no time. is there any others I should be looking at that fit this niche?
