Oh i like this person's honesty about the realities of the business. What various actors are "worth" is a heartbreaking equation, but I appreciate when someone just comes out and says it rather than gaslighting us about it.

Absolutely it’s a part of the business I feel like has gotten way worse recently. It’s a lazy form of producing in my opinion. What ever happened to discovering new talent and making stars? The audience can get just as excited if not more so hearing about a brand new talent who is different, exciting, and new.

All he said about getting the movie financed and made is so true. My second movie The Driver would never have been made if Mark Dacascos hadn't agreed to do it. The director had worked with him before, sent Mark my script, which enticed Mark's interest, and then news broke Mark would be in John Wick 3, so his stock went up, and money suddenly became available, and things picked up from there. Luck and timing set the stage and the movie got made.

Great video! I'm so glad he got his movie made. Lucy is so lovely. A very talented, beautiful Memphis Belle with the voice of an angel. I've watched her grow up since her role on Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, and then on the series Privileged. I hope this film is a huge success for all involved. I appreciate the honesty regarding how movies get made based on the value of the lead talent, and that white male actors still get more movies made than women or minorities. It's very sad that so much talent is sidelined because the gatekeepers are still so bias and lack imagination. They only want sure things. The more open and honest people are with the public about this being the norm, the better chance we have as creators to change the system. I hope. 💗💗💗

@theglanconer64632 жыл бұрын
Disagree to a certain extent. Imo. the main problem is nepotism, a lack of creativity, politics, the cult of wokeism and moral cowardice. I´ve a feeling there are many good, even brilliant script writers out there in the world but when you look at the outcome these past 15 years the audience is for the most part getting woke tick-the-box movies, remakes, superhero movies, book adaptations which fail to resemble the books and identity politics. How is it possible shows like Naomi, Batwoman, Star Trek Discovery, The Wheel of Time and so on, can be made while others shows are being cancelled or die after the writing phase. And every single (usually woke) remake is worse than (and often anathema to) the orginal. That´s why so many people are turning to Korean series and movies (or the Japanese comic industry): entertainment, escapism, good writing, creativity and no woke cult members and identity politics in sight. I want to be entertained, I don't want nor expect to see myself , my colour, my gender, my sexual orientation, my hairstyle, my political ideology et cetera reflected in a movie. It's getting stale and it's destroying the American movie industry. In my country (The Netherlands) the three best watched shows, spanning nearly three decades were Different Strokes, the Cosby show and the Fresh Prince of Bell Air, all the game show hosts were gay and my favorite Hollywood star was Ellen Ripley. Society was at it's peak in the late 80s/90s/early 2000s. We were almost there. But then came the woke cult of the 2010s from America and destroyed the industry (and progress) Anyhow Narcos was a brilliant series with an almost entirely Latino cast. Blood in, Blood out, City of God and Apocalypto another one (native American cast ?). I bet if you make an historical epos (Conquistadores, Bolivar, Aztecs, Maya's, the first Spanish settlers, the Zapata revolt, the genocide of the Arawak by the Carib people, the fight against the myriad fascist regimes (such as A Twelve Year Night), a South American prison movie, a South American 'western'-like movie and so on it will pull in millions too. But sadly Hollywood these days is only interested in ticking-the-boxes. That's the reason why so many series and movies fail these days. It's no longer about escapism but all about The Message. Politics and ideology from a few individuals on the top of the Hollywood pyramid trumps a well crafted story and the wishes of the audience. Hollywood could listen to Ricky Gervais. He said it all. But they won't. And so award shows are nearing extinction, stars are despised, movies fail at the box office and woke series are ignored by the masses (just like the 'customers' and scriptwriters have been ignored these past 15 years).
@G360LIVE2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The industry, now, is consistently asking, "How woke is it?" and, for example, Amazon even altered Tolkien's work to meet their diversity quota for the new Lord of the Rings series. They don't care about art or the artist's vision; it's all about pushing an agenda, probably to try to make people believe that Hollywood is so great and moral, when we all really know that the opposite is true. As an extension of this, I think your chances of being hired as a writer in Hollywood go up the more woke you're willing to go on your screenplay, and considering that Hollywood doesn't really hire for quality and talent anymore, it does become a game of who you know and whether you're willing to do what's acceptable in that inner circle.
