Just turned 41. Started swimming in January 24’. A longtime cyclist and runner…this has been an amazing experience! Much harder than I expected but gaining confidence and technique everyday.

I've been swimming seriously (regular workouts, lots of laps) for 18 months, and I've noticed I'm getting the swimmer's high almost every time now. I love it! Thank you for this very thorough video.

Self taught swimmer at 39 years old. I've been swimming for 5 months now. I feel amazing when i swim. Cranky when i don't lol. Health numbers became noticable after just 3 months. Only regret was i didn't learn how to and consistently swim sooner

I’m 86, swim in a 25mtr lap pool MWF steady state either 1500[44 minutes], or 2000mts[60 Minutes], but this has made me think I ought to try a 1 length sprint every 10 lengths

I work in public health and became incredibly unhealthy during the early pandemic. Overall I gained about 38 pounds. I was already 40 pounds overweight. I began swimming again but whereas before I was casual and less consistent I swim almost every day now. I'm down 48 pounds and feel awesome. I also suffer from fibromyalgia and take thyroid meds daily. Swimming has me feeling so awesome I have even started running and despite fibro pain know I can relieve it in the pool. Hardly any pain meds. I love swimming. ❤️ I'm also 50 years old.

Enjoyed the video. Am 82, a woman swimming off and on since age 12. Back to swimming 3 X weekly working up to 75% of goal of 1/2 mile 3 X weekly. Workout is switching strokes to 1/3 freestyle, 1/3 breaststroke with some reversed butterfly and 1/3 backstroke. Only exercise that leaves me feeling fully invigorated, joints looser. Even balance better. It's fabulous & grateful I have sev free pools with my gap ins. The only drawback is the effect chlorine has on the nails, skin and hair. Sorry no salt water pools in CO as in CA. Don't give up...keep swimming oldsters!

At the age of 66 I have many in my age group for whom missing even a day makes us miss something too bad; which we sometimes wonder if it's addiction. I think we are experiencing all that is mentioned in the video. Since last few months I have engaged coaching help, as all these years I was swimming watching other good swimmers including competitors. Now I feel more benefits and greater joy in swimming. I recommend swimming to others to an extent people call me crazy. But I give them example of those in my batch who even avoided knee replacement and several other benefits.

Another great video! Swimming offers many benefits, but like anything, it’s not without its drawbacks. Long-term swimming can have some negative impacts on our bodies. For instance, similar to other low-gravity activities-like cycling or astronauts living in space-swimming can lead to a loss of calcium from our bones. To counteract this, incorporating weightlifting or running into our routine can help maintain bone density and overall strength.

I do 30 to 60 minutes swimming and have gotten up to 4 strokes before taking a breath. Even taught myself to do a flip turn. I will incorporate sprints during my swims instead of being the last two laps. Swimming keeps the heart healthy and the feeling is invigorating.

I need to get back into it. I’m so unhealthy. I was an all state swimmer in high school. Didn’t swim after that except a couple different times with the masters group. I struggled with burnout in high school. That’s the dark side of swimming. It made me very depressed. Most will never experience that though. It takes a lot of training to experience burnout. In the 90’s it was all about volume. I was a sprinter and volume killed me. Plus it was mostly due to one bad coach. 5000 to 8000 yards in 100 minutes followed by a five mile run. Every day after school. Then home, dinner, homework, sleep. Every lap I was asking myself “Why am I doing this?”
@vladimirpaunovic90754 ай бұрын
I know that feeling. Sports was all about results and performance back than. I used to be a rower. But now in my early 40s i found swimming to be the sport i enjoy doing it. And thats why i feel i am going to stick to it for the long run. Maybe that will help you as well. Do it for the sake of enjoyment and good time in the pool. Try to swim in the lake or ocean as well. Its amazing feeling.

If u could sit I wouldn’t stand. If I could lie down I wouldn’t sit. Before swimming I liked Pilates and yoga because I could do them lying down. Swimming is moving horizontally. How wonderful?! I still struggle before each session but as soon as my body and breathing acclimate, I always finished my pool time. I began to learn swimming 3 years ago just before retirement. I have been a lot more consistent since Feb after I switched to a lap pool. I lost weight and looked a bit more like a swimmer body wise. I am grateful for each pool time. I sing better because of swimming. I shower 5/6 days a week because of swimming. I am still new to it but I already received lots of benefit. Now I research lap pools open to public for day use when I planned my vacation. I don’t want to stop swimming.

Swimming is a great exercise, I am feeling it too. But I do need to point out one thing, swimming in chlorinated pool as we all are doing expose us to trihalomethanes (THMs) which can cause cancer. It can enter through inhalation, ingestion and even diffuse through skin. Indoor pools have higher concentration as air circulation is limited. Once I found out, I started to limit my time in pool, used to be I can spend up to 1.5 hours, now I get out once I completed my distance aimed. Swimming is a great exercise, just we also need to know some of the down sides to it
@kievandyke89943 ай бұрын
Pools have less trihalomethane than most tap water. A person would need to consume copious amounts of pool water to have any substantial risk.
@ck14163 ай бұрын
@@kievandyke8994 sorry, that is incorrect. A simple google results will yield many papers investigating this issue. One of the abstract is as folllow: "We investigated the concentration of trihalomethanes (THMs) in tap water and swimming pool water in the area of the Nakhon Path- om Municipality during the period April 2005-March 2006. The concentrations of total THMs, chloroform, bromodichloromethane, dibromochloromethane and bromoform in tap water were 12.70-41.74, 6.72-29.19, 1.12-11.75, 0.63-3.55 and 0.08-3.40 µg/L, respectively, whereas those in swimming pool water were 26.15-65.09, 9.50-36.97, 8.90-18.01, 5.19-22.78 and ND-6.56 µg/L, respectively. It implied that the concentration of THMs in swimming pool water was higher than those in tap water"
