Thanks for doing this Gareth as it’s very important to showcase this sort of censorship that we had to put up for a number of years. When I got into DVD in 2001, I was just staggered to see so many moments in full having not even realised that they’d been edited at all. Although talking of Die Hard With A Vengeance, the first special edition DVD still had the edits, it wasn’t until the Blu-ray that it came fully uncut.

Die Hard With a Vengeance also had quite a lot of swearing toned down for the UK 15 release, as I recall.

Yeah I could find it same with Die Hard 2. Only found the ones listed by BBFC

Good thing that the BBFC has recently relaxed on censoring films for UK release, they sometimes still do it today (and sometimes still even reject films) but not as often, and when they do it’s usually to get a lower rating. This is also why many classic films get their ratings lowered when viewed for a rerelease (usually 18 to 15 or 15 to 12/12A), sometimes I see old films that are STILL rated 18 today and in most cases I then think they don’t really seem 18-worthy by today’s standards, if they got viewed nowadays they would certainly be passed 15 uncut.

Yes, Terminator was 18 and is 15 now but others still 18

The 4K Bluray of The Matrix fixed the colour timing to remove the green that the Bluray added. Great watch this.

Some great films there!👍 I think the BBFC also censored or toned down Xenia Onatopp's tree / helicopter death scream on the cinema & VHS release. It was quite intense!

Back in the day they censored a lot with the pan & scan versions.

Jeez, it's shocking how dark some of those VHS transfers were in retrospect, then again, True Lies looks surprisingly decent compared to the recent 4K blu-ray. Some of these cuts are bizarre, especially the edits for swearing. They clearly knew kids would be watching these films, but even then, the editing felt inconsistent.... why are some F bombs more problematic than others? Madness! It's been such a long time since I watched the T2 VHS (I think I still have it somewhere) that I'd forgotten that you don't see the knife going into the man's back on the pool table. I always remember seeing it, but I guess the past 20 some-odd years of watching it on DVD/Blu-ray have clouded my memory.

It was hard to edit some them especially the Cliffhanger cave scene as I couldn't tell what was going on. The True Lies trsnfer is very impressive for VHS especially compared to Die Hard 2. But the matrix goes from yellow to green now

I remember late 80s/early 90s uk tv edits to Lethal Weapon changed "asshole" to "airhead" and Riggs intro "that's a badge, I'm a real cop and this is a real FIRING gun" 😂😂
