Being a cheap shot team or even a tough team does not male you a better team. I'm a Leafs fan myself and I miss the old time hockey. Back when it wasn't all about getting paid and more about the passion. Watching Domi or Clark get into a fight was amazing and fun to watch. These little scrums are just a pansies way of looking "tough". You'd never find guys like Domi, Clark, McSorley, May, Probert, etc ever turtle in a scrum/fight, especially after a cheap shot.

There was a precedent for this misconduct fest, actually. in the 70s or early 80s, because of the massive amounts of line and bench brawls, the NHL had instituted a rule that mandated misconduct penalties for anybody who dropped their gloves after the initial fight broke out. Kerry Fraser told a funny story in his book about being the poor bastard who had to enforce that rule after a fight, and everyone picked a dance partner. 😅

Firing coaches is how GMs make it look like they’re doing something. Look at Edmonton, Woodcroft had something like 80-40 w-l in his tenure and still got canned. Look what happened… it’s a stupid thing that happens in the league but coaches are the easiest to fire so 🤷🏼♂️
@AHockey1993 Жыл бұрын
@CalgaryDynastar I agree that in Edmonton's situation, they probably should have given Woody more rope. But Ottawa has a decent lineup on paper, and they look lifeless out there. Edmonton at least still played well (when looking at the underlying metrics), but Ottawa is middling, and even bottom-10 in most advanced stats when they have players who are better than this. I think it points to a coaching issue

@@solarion9802 ...so you're just going to go ahead and ignore the SIX extra games that Columbus has played then? @@pa-mo Are you for real? lol Ottawa is 28th in the league by points and 26th by point percentage. They're not "pretty much middle of the pack" ...they suck and they're not going to be in the playoffs. There's nothing this team has done that convinces me they can go .607 the rest of the season to get to 95pts. Next month they actually have to start playing hockey after their near two month long vacation of one game every 3 days. They're toast bud...get over it. They've squandered a silly easy schedule to start the season and soon they have to go on the road to play some real opponents. Games in hand are only useful if you actually get points from them. Columbus won't be a playoff team either btw, but at least their fan base is realistic about where their team is. Ottawa is on pace for 77 points...but keep on keeping on. This team is broken.

@solarion9802 Жыл бұрын
Ottawa has several good hockey players, but they're less than the sum of their parts. They're a lousy team with awful temperament. Sure, put it all on DJ, but it's deeper than that. They consistently crack under pressure, which is why they only perform when there's nothing left to lose. They do this at a game level and for the season. Good news is they'll soon be eliminated from playoff contention and they can then go ahead and dress up their season standings again by winning enough games to convince their fans they're a "good team" again. Rinse and repeat.
