In 2003 I got stationed in Memphis. My 8th grader brought home a book that was required reading called "Black Like Me." I was intrigued and read the book. It was about a reporter that died his skin back in the 50s I think, and went under cover as a black person in the south. I applauded the Shelby County school system for doing this. We need to remember.

@@kurokhan28 That, my dear, is the question everyone should be asking. I read, but did not verify, that the gun was used for "target practice," and was left, UNlocked, on a cart, unattended. 🤯 Blows my freaking mind! Anyone, who knows anything about firearm safety knows that if Jesus Christ himself says a gun is unloaded, you DOU BLE check if you didn't see it with your own two eyes anyway. Period. No excuses. ps. I am not playing the 'blame Alec Baldwin' game. Actors aren't responsible. The armorer, and the asst. director are on the line.😿
@jacobolson96503 жыл бұрын
@@eileennovak1656 Fully agreed. One thing to note though, Alec Baldwin wasn’t merely an actor for this film. He was an executive producer. It is very likely he had a hand in hiring those that worked on the set, and a man with his wealth could have most certainly brought in proper firearm safety. Meaning that his share of the responsibility, while lower than the Armorer or AD is still quite high. Much higher than any common actor in his shoes. In my opinion, all three of them should receive jail time for this. A woman lost her life, and a family has been fragmented. The blame must land on all those directly responsible. Otherwise the level of justice enacted will not be sufficient.

Hanna... sad because she's so young, but she is in no way knowledgeable enough about firearms to be an armourer. Whoever brought her in to the industry, and those who hired her without vetting her knowledge and experience, are ultimately the ones at fault for Helena's death. Having grown up with guns and shot hundreds of thousands of rounds, people like me understand that guns aren't toys, they're not for show, and you're not cool because you have one. They are tools capable of incredible destructive force, and anyone who does not respect that power, is not fit to own or manage them. This is a naive young girl, who was probably taught that guns are cool, and that she could work with them in movies. Now someone is dead. Also, even as an actor, I would NEVER pull the trigger on a gun I had not personally inspected. At the end of the day, if a bullet comes out of that gun accidently, I would be the one who had to live with that. When are we going to learn as a country, that different tools have different capabilities? They are not all equal, and they should not be treated as such. Guns are not toys for show and tell!

For the record: a prop gun IS a real gun. Even if it is just loaded with blanks, it is dangerous, as John-Eric Hexum find out when he had the "brilliant" idea to put a prop gun on his head as a joke and the accidentally gave himself a head shot. If a gun is designed to go "bang" and have smoke coming out of it, it is NOT a prop, it is a real gun which is just used in another way. (A solution are guns which genuinely can't shoot anything, and a lot of cgi to make it look real).
@joemann79713 жыл бұрын
Brandon Lee got killed by a prop gun. When the gun is loaded with blanks, any debris in the barrel can be deadly. That's why its important to have important to have a firearms expert and inspect that the gun is loaded properly, and that there isn't any debris in the barrel. You can also use a completely fake gun and add smoke in editing. I do believe that's how the John Wick movies are done. They add the smoke via CGI, but John Wick is a much higher production movie than Rust. I'm guessing using real guns with blanks is cheaper than paying a studio to add in CGI, but they should have at least had a firearms expert inspect the gun.

Just as they do in any industry. Sad, but true. Humans are fallible, and sometimes we make massive mistakes. I would argue that one will find fewer safe environments than a film set.
@jacobolson96503 жыл бұрын
Very true. Most injuries occur due to fall damage. But, people love stunt work, and there’s no way to avoid all potential hazards. Practical effects are very important for film making, and guns are just one element of that. This level of negligence is incredibly rare, and I find it incredibly important that all three people involved see jail time due to it. Of all the safety hazards that can occur on set, this is the easiest one to avoid. No cap.

i like this new intimate format. Found out about it from Trevor's interview by Stephen Colbert. But the sound is a bit hollow.

When u make rich people pay real prices, you can charge poor people less. If only we could teach a system in our schools that would allow us to set some kind of, bill on rich peoples incomes, so they pay a fair share into the economy. What could we call something like that? It’s very taxing on the brain.

They need the Patriot tax on huge corporations to be 25% AND have the billionaire tax . . . Because Manchin is right "it doesn't hurt anybody."

And this is why guns are dangerous. So for them to actually use a real gun for the scene it's just a crazy idea honestly. As my mom would say in these kind of situations regarding guns "you live by the sword you die by it. You live by the gun you die by it" and someone certainly did

Maybe I'm a radical, but I think if the thing can fire actual live rounds it no longer qualifies as a PROP gun. A PROP gun is a hunk of pretty metal that can't be loaded. What they used is a REAL gun. And that should have legal requirements to be used for production purposes for EXACTLY this reason. Why is a gun safety expert for a set using guns and live ammo OPTIONAL.
